I love the old Chaos Dwarf range. Do you have a modelling/painting thread? I’d love to see them. 19 hours ago, Kramer said: I have that picture on the wall! its such a great painting! Grungir
man that's is an insane level of skill!
Kierdale
Thanks for the compliment, but honestly it isn’t. Just patience and a reasonable brush. I did each step quite slowly. Maybe one colour a day, and had the original art in front of me as I was painting. I also read about it, which helped me notice extra things - like the white at the edge of the waves is like hooked claws - which I tried to incorporate. But it’s just a matter of patience. And now I’m working on my Anvilgard-ified Celestar Ballista. Only got one crew but will add a second in the future. should be finished in a day or two. Kierdale
And the Anvilgard celestar ballista is done! I’ll give it a second crew member once I’ve got a second chariot (which should be soon. I’ll also work on the two chariots together). I might give the second crew member a flag. I do like flags. I changed the over-barrel decoration to some Scourge Privateer bits to tie it in to the rest of the army a bit more. And made the barrels and ammo bits glow like my dark shards. I didn’t fix either to their bases so that, if I want in the future, I can put them on a ship’s deck in a diorama. Next up is a pair of Scourge Runner chariots, and 16 counts-as Phoenix Guard...
Kierdale
I’m now working on the second crew member for the ballista. Same body as his partner but I hope he looks sufficiently different. Basing will help. Ballista crews don’t have flags but I like flags so he’s got one.
Kierdale
And I sprayed the beast-hide parts of crew for my two scourgerunner chariots last night. I’ll get a third ASAP. Christmas, perhaps. One will be modelled as a high beast master (champion chariot, basically) so gave that one a bigger banner (must add a top decoration, perhaps a severed hydra head); a hooded, bow-wielding driver; and a fancier, cloaked gunner to represent the boss-elf.
Kierdale
I’m still working on the two chariots but also a unit of three counts-as demigryph knights: three beast-master scourge privateers (made from Dark Elf Blood Bowl minis - very dynamic - with polearms from Scourgerunner chariots and shields from dreadspears) driving before them lava beasts (three Necromunda Sumpcrocs painted up HOT). Here’s some WIPs:
Kierdale
I couldn’t decide whether to do the metal bits on the back of the magmacrocs as corroded copper or as iron so painted up one of each quickly... the iron contrasts better with their skin so I’ll go with that.
Kierdale
Merry Christmas! I hoped to get this army done by the end of the year but that doesn’t look likely. I still have two chariots and 16 counts-as Phoenix Guard to do...but should be able to finish them in the first months of 2021. I have completed by Scourge privateer beast masters and their magmacrocs. First is the musician: 1
Tommy
The magmacrocs turned out great! 🙂 Stolen from beneath the Fyreslayers’ noses perhaps?! 😁

Kierdale
I just have a unit of Phoenix Guard - made from a box of Bretonian men at arms I got years ago before they went out of production, with forge world Cawdor heads - to do and then the army is finished. For now. Here are some work in progress shots:
Kyriakin
Banners are obviously incredible (duh...) On the dudes, while the colour fades are well executed, I just feel the creep too far into an almost creamy or greenish-yellow at the bottom, which detracts from the intended "firey phoenix " feeling a bit. Maybe you didn't want the overal miniature to be too overwhelmingly bright, but I feel bright yellow would sell the feeling of heat more. Then maybe directly to a tiny bit of white if you want to cap it off with "white hot" at the very bottom edge. No white/yellow mixtures... Note: When I look at my laptop screen from below, it looks much brighter. So , if it's just a photo/screen issue, feel free to ignore the above. Or just ignore it anyway! PainfullyMediocre
This whole army is so well done, i'm blown away by the amount of work that has gone into all of it.

I’ve painted their leggings and shoes in more natural colours which should help. Only their outer clothes are now ‘phoenix’ish, and hopefully just a nice yellow at the bottom. I’ve nearly finished the unit and will post images soon. 3 hours ago, PainfullyMediocre said: This whole army is so well done, i'm blown away by the amount of work that has gone into all of it. Thank you too! Once the Phoenix Guard are done, the army’s done. For now. Anvilgard will have to Endure without me for a while! (I’ll be over on the Bolter&Chainsword making my Snakebites) Hopefully I can do some army pics this weekend. And I’m sure I’ll add to the army in the future. Another Start Collecting Anvilgard would be perfect...and that new vampire with two swords would be a great black ark Fleetmaster...
Kierdale
The Phoenix Guard are done. Not my best work but I may add to their paintwork when I’m doing their display board for AoP2021.
Kierdale
ANVILGARD ENDURES! the army is done. I’ll be back on this project when I’m making their display board. It’s been great fun making this army and I’m proud of it. I hope it’s provided some ideas and/or inspiration. Now I need a break from AoS. Futa Manticore
An impressive achievement! The freehand, in particular, is quite spectacular, and I like the balance between individuality for each unit but still creates a cohesive army.
