Redking
Well, I decided to start a painting log. I’m not sure how well I will keep up with it, but here it goes. I started with Warhammer back in 5th edition and 40k during 2nd. Dwarves and Eldar were a strange pairing. I’ve painted a variety of armies and took a break for a while there. I really didn’t care for fantasy 8th and 40k 6th/7th. However, AoS finally got me back in and I love 8e 40k. I started back in with Khorne Bloodbound and have a large army and have dabbled in a few others. I’ll try to add pictures of other stuff later. I’m currently working on Stormcast because I like the new Soulwars stuff, but I didn’t want to go the gold route. So, I decided on Hallowed Knights. I got a new airbrush (Badger Velocity) and layer down Leadbelcher, Ironbreaker, and Runefang Steel. Then I gave them a wash of 50/50 Drakenhoff and Nuln Oil Gloss. I kind of wish I would have thrown down a gloss coat first to put it more in the recesses, but I think it will work. My next step is to give it a good dry brush of Necron Compound. My converted Sequitor Prime. I used the easy build prime and added the easy build castigator prime’s arm and helmet. The extended the hammer handle to make it a great hammer. syph0n
Great start. Have you got a list in mind yet?
Redking
4 hours ago, syph0n said: Great start. Have you got a list in mind yet? Thanks. Right now, I'm sitting at 800 points with a few things in the mail. For 1000 points, I'm looking at: Lord Arcanum on Gryph Charger Knight Invocator 2 units of 5x Sequitors (w/3 Great Hammers) 5x Castigators 5x Evocators 1x Ballista I think if I change the Lord Arcanum on Gryph Charger to foot, I can free up 60 points for some Endless Spells. Going forward to 1500, I will add another unit of Sequitors (I think I want a unit of swords ), another unit of Castigators, another Ballista, and another hero. As for painting, I really like @tamthebird's Vanguard where he uses Stegadon Scale instead of Macragge Blue. However, I think I'm going to go with Thousand Sons and Arhiman Blue. I also want to keep the gold to a minimum, probably the shoulder pads and a little on the swords. I'm also going to paint the scrolls a parchment color instead of blue because I really don't like how that looks. Hopefully, I can get these back on my painting table soon. I have one more Imperial Knight to paint for my 2000 point House Hawkshroud. Edited July 26, 2018 by Redking
Redking
I was able to get some drybrushing done this morning. Simple Necron Compound. This process highlighted some gaps and seams on the shoulder pads that I’ll need to go back and fill.
Redking
My knight was at the stage of awaiting decals and I didn’t feel like doing that, so I threw a squad of sequitors on my painting table and laid down the base coats. I’m going to have to do something with the should pad on my converted Prime because I really messed up the Stormcast emblem. I’ll probably add a purity seal or something.
Redking
Here’s a picture of my workstation, in case anyone is interested. I’m running out of room for paint, so I need to figure out how to conveniently add another shelf. I use finger nail polish racks to hold the paint.
Redking
My daughter had a friend over, my son was being a mopey teenager in his room, and my wife didn’t have any chores for me, so I finished a squad. I used a purity seal to cover the primes bad shoulder pad. Please let em know if you have any suggestions or ideas before I continue. I’m not sure about the vials. I think I may go back and hit them with Stormhost Silver and then use the blue soul stone technical.
Redking
It’s going to look like I have way too much time on my hands, but it’s because I am a teacher. So, summer time has also become project time. Originally, I was going to build and paint a Dark Eldar army. However, a friend really wanted one of my armies and traded me a couple of Knight Renegade boxes. Then AoS 2 came out. I was going to do the Nighthaunts and started planning a table to match them. I picked up a nice death game mat from 2plus tough (https://twoplustough.com/collections/frontpage/products/deadlands-game-mat) and have been slowly working on terrain. Now I’m stuck. I want to add some woods, but I’m not sure how to paint them. The terrain is primed Stormvermin Fur, then I airbrushed Stegadon Scale in the recesses, cracks, and crevices. I washed the whole thing Nuln Oil. Finally I dry brushed with Dawnstone, Administratum Grey, and some light Ulthuan Grey in some areas. The archway had Incubi Darkness airbrushed on the front details before drybrushing. This is how I will do the bases of the woods, but I don’t know how I want to do the trees. I don’t want a stark white, but I don’t think browns will work either. Any thoughts?
Kramer
Looking good man! Take advantage of the downtime while you have it ?
Lysandestolpe
Man, Sweet table dude! First, I think you should invest in some yellow/brown static grass and flock some parts of the terrain pieces. Not a whole lot, since there isn't any on the table. But it would splash a little color in there. In addition, I'd add some masonite bases cut in organic oval and round shapes and sand them, paint them, grass them for your realm gates and other structures. That way you will always know when you are in cover and when you're not. Lastly, I'd paint the trees some funky color like that etherial ghost color (white primer with Nilax oxide (or however you spell it). That would also add some color to your table. Then paint the base the same way you painted the rest and add that yellow static grass. I hope that helps! Love the work so far
Redking
What does everyone think about Nighthaunt Gloom for the trees. It’s pretty heavy straight from the pot, but maybe thinned with Lahmia Medium? Although, I’m thinking more of a dead tree look. Dryad Bark, then drybrushed with some greys? I finished a unit of Castigators and started another unit of Sequitors. Although, I’m going to need to take a break to finish my kill team terrain and Drukharii squad for Friday.
Redking
Little bit of an update. I finished my Kill Team terrain and Drukharii, so today I worked on bases. Primed black, sprayed Mechanicus Standard Grey, added some Stegadon Scale into the recesses, washed Nuln Oil and then I drybrushed Dawnstone, Administratum, and Ulthuan. Now to paint the details. I also drybrushed the Nominous Occulum. I really hated assembling that and the Archway. I actually used caulk to fill gaps.
Redking
I finished the bases. I have my second five sequitors on the painting station awaiting highlights. Then I need to start pinning them.
Redking
My daughter decided she wanted to paint this summer, but I couldn’t convince her to go with AoS. After looking through the 40k rulebook, she decided she wanted to paint “the pretty lady” (Ynarri). I had a squad of Harlequins sitting in my cabinet from a trade a while ago, so I stripped them and she started the base coats. She’s going with Black for the main color, with Baharoth Blue and Dechala Lilac quarters, and pink scarves and hair. Ought to be good. I’ll probably start her on Kill Team.
syph0n
Teacher representing here too. You've got a lot more done than I have though! It's coming together nicely. I'm glad my son wasn't bothered either way out of 40k or AoS, but we've played a few open games now so he's starting to really get AoS. It helps he's got nearly 2k of Stormcast too ? Can't blame your daughter, love all the Eldar (called Aeldari now??)
Redking
Well, I finished basing my Sequitors, Castigators, and a little something extra. Next up on the painting block is another great hammer to max out my two units, two Knight Incantors, and my Lord Arcanum on Dracoline.
Slave2Chaos
Did you create the bases? If so, can you go into more detail as to how you did the basing. Green stuff roller? Resin kits/pre done bases?
Redking
They are the bases from the easy build kits. I'll need to make some bases for the gryph charger and evocator dracolines. I'm thinking about using a flagstone greenstuff roller and some astrogranite debris. For bricks, I am going to get a rectangular hole punch and some craft foam. Tzaangor Management
Love those Orange Dracolines, always preferred that GW scheme over the Hammers one and yours have come out great!
Redking
Thanks. Hopefully, I can get back to the army soon. Back to school and they decided to move everyone's classrooms.
Redking
I was able to get a little painted this weekend. Finished my Lord Arcanum, 2 Knight Incantors, and a unit of Evocators. I have a unit of Castigators, 2 Ballistas, and the Gryph Charger left. Then I need to pick up a unit of Sequitors and a second unit of Evocators and I think I’m done.
Redking
Been a bit too long for an update. Both Ballistas are finished. I only have 5 Castigators and the Gryph Charger left. Then, I will need to pick up the models to finish the army.
Redking
I haven’t posted in a bit, I’ve been working on 40k stuff mostly. I do have a small update with a painted Tauralon. I also painted 10 Sequitors and a Lord Arcanum on foot, but still need to get pictures. That leaves a unit on Castigators, Evocators on Dracolines, and the Gryph Charger. However, I recently picked up 40 Witch Aelves on the cheap and got 2 Battleforces for Christmas. I believe my focus will probably change before I can finish the Stormcast.
Redking
Taking a break from the Stormcast again, but this time for AOS. My wife got me 2 Daughters of Khaine Battleforces for Christmas (not quite as cool as the Warbringer Titan I wanted, but more affordable) and I found 40 Witch Elves online for cheap, so new army. I picked up some bucklers on eBay because I like a little more durability’s and converted the Witches. Right now, I’m thinking 30 Witches, 20 Witches, and 10 Sisters for my Battleline since that is what I have. Although, I only have 30 built and can switch it up if anyone has any suggestions. Here are the first 10 painted.
Redking
This weekend was more building than painting. I finished the highlights on my next batch of 10 Witch Aelves and I think the skin came out a little better. I also built the Cauldron, but haven’t figure out how I want magnetize the Hag and Slaghter Priestess. Their feet a really small. I watched the video online and bought 3mmx2mm magnets, but their feet are really small... I’ll keep looking at it and figure something out.
