What direction should I go with this guy?

I'm a noob at this and don't have much of an art background, so I could use some guidance on choosing the right colours. I don't like blond, so I'm thinking either ginger or black for his beard. But if I go with a ginger beard and his pants are also red, does that end up looking too dull? If so, what do I with the pants?

What are some good recipes for ginger beards and black beards?

I consider the skin done, do you agree, or is there anything else I should be doing to it?

I always like grey, no art student either, but!!!! I painted over 200 dwarfs in my life and the silver grey ones are the most memorable.

I had actually considered that, but I thought it would be the most challenging to pull off. What's your recipe for that?

I'll look up two or three examples tonight/tomorrow. I don't think I ever wrote them down though. But the basis always was: a stone grey layer (watch out for stone colors with bit of blue in them), little bit of ink to get some depth and a pale grey highlight. Finishing of with some very thin white highlights.
