Mayple
Heyo! I'll be using this thread to document my progress as I convert, kitbash, and paint my way through however many hordes of Skaven the Great Horned Rat ask of me. First up is the chainsaw-slingin' yet-to-be-named and properly painted, Arch-Warlock. He's rocking parts from genestealer cults, skitaari, and Ironjawz. I am very unsure on what his color scheme should be, so any suggestions on where to go from here is very welcome
Mayple
Next, is the one-horned grey seer, riding twelve rats, and swinging a warpfire thingy (this is the correct, scientific terminology)

They are both very dynamic. I'm tempted to suggest red for the warlock but with a such a brutal rotating blade. Blood spatter is practically a must. So maybe a darker yellow for the robes? Mayple
Got some paint on the warlock - I've yet to add some highlights, and brighten the warpstone, but the basics are down. Pardon the lighting. The paint wouldn't show properly, so I went for the simple solution.
TheWilddog
Love the conversion and really like the warpstone effect. Great job.
Mayple
Progress! The grey seer is more or less done (gonna paint his eyes green instead) and has been joined by two new warlords! The old warlord with cape and walking stick requires some more green stuffing before his cape is presentable
Kramer
Such a cool conversion with the walking stick.
Mayple
The young warlord has been graced by the brushed rat.
Skrattch Skarpaw
Hey, they're really fun. I rather like how you've painted the first guy actually, with the all over fur look across the face, same with your newly posted warlord. The green glow on your warlord works nicely too. I agree with the fur-all-over approach. The grey seer was a bit of an experiment in that regard, where I reached the same conclusion as you that fur all over looks best
Mayple
Old age has not stopped this warlord from kill-squashing his rivals.
Kramer
Still my favorite conversion to date! Looking forward to see what comes next.
Mayple
The uber rat! ..I dropped him on the floor in my attempt to document this. His arm and hand were structural weak points that have been reinforced
Skrattch Skarpaw
Oh wow, I really like the latest guy, you're like an evil genius with this stuff. I really like how you've painted the old age warlord as well as the conversion, great stuff.
Mayple
The half-ogre rat is on hold while I figure out what to do with him. In the meantime, some pilfering from the barrow lords has elevated this Stormvermin into the service as pet-warlord to the self-proclaimed over-emperor (pending) ! Mayple
Another Arch-Warlock enters the scene! The other one has been so busy killing Seraphon (and rolling double 1's) I figured I needed an arch-warlock to deal with everyone else. Early stage. Curry_Supreme
There’s some really innovative conversions here. My favourite is the Uber rat! Great work mayple!
Mayple
The heretical Verminlord enters the fray! Intent on ruling all the realms, and taking the throne of Sigmar for himself, the self-proclaimed over-emperor governs a rapidly growing inbred populace of Skaven that has isolated itself from the rest of Skavendom. Over many, many birth cycles, the over-emperor has slowly obscured and replaced the teachings of the horned rat with his own. Whether this was done due to crazed megalomania, short-sighted stupidity, or the usual mixture of both - only the Great Horned Rat knows.
Rayvn
Very cool stuff! I like the "Old Rat" with his "Rat-B-Good" stick, the Stormvermin has a sort of regal look to him so the new Warlord better watch his back. That Rat Ogre is gonna be epic! The Horned Grey Seer surfer rat is very cool as well. Saddens me that they got rid of my favorite rat, good ole Queek Headtaker *hangs head in silence* Anyways good stuff looking forward to MOAR! Mayple
Mighty-brave Ratticus plows through the enemy with heedless ferocity! Atop his fearsome mount, his fanatical bravery never falters. Sorta WIP. Going to replace his flimsy finecast spear/blade with a more solid weapon. A mighty warphammer or something like that
Kramer
SO much better than the pink skinned version!! Well done!
Mayple
Back at it with the conversions. This is the most challenging one yet! WIP! A rather large, intimidating warlord inspired by the 'black plague' trilogy skaven. Built using the body of a genestealer cult patriarch. This fellow can stand toe to toe with an orruk which will be a challenge to balance on a 25mm base, for sure.
Kramer
so, so awesome!
Rogue Explorator
Dang, I have to admit, using the Patriarch for a skaven conversion is one of those ideas where I get jealous I did not get it first. That is an awesome start, the armour plates look perfect, so I am eager to see him finished.
