  1. I have a practice game challenge this coming Monday at 3K points vs my friend's Flesh Eater Courts. From the looks of it I'll be facing the most MW an army can throw out as he's loaded with Terrorgheists and CryptFlayers, all of which scream vs bravery. I have 3 Gatebreakers and a Kraken-Eater. Should be a super hard cruel game! I'm still on the fence about Breaker Tribe vs Taker Tribe here. Breaker Tribe with 2 Bosses battalions (and I have Kragnos plus a Mancrusher) and I could take the Amulet of Destiny and the Portcullis for 2 ward saved Gatebreakers, and then vial of Manticore Venom on the 3rd one for extra smashing power. That plus the +1 to hit vs something without trying. But I do see value in the Taker Tribe, as then I'm pretty sure I can take all the objective points, and hopefully still accomplish the Battle Tactics nicely. I don't know if I can outdrop him. Can't do Footsloggas really to get unified at all. Kragnos might provide some distraction effect, and hopefully, be a deadly cruise missile too.
  2. I have yet to experience the Fyreslayers. The Duardin might be my Order army assuming they get a unified tome someday. After my Sons of Behemat events coming up, I'll give a FLoSH with those Runes a try. Timing is such a nuanced skill in gaming and life in general.
  3. Sounds like Cogs would be good to have in my three wizard Bloodgullet Ogors army too. But I used my spell as the gearworks for my mechanical megagargant. Gotta get another one
  4. Anybody using Gnoblars at all for screens? They went up in points for some reason, but wondering if I should bother assembling my bag of 12 and getting a few more to make a unit. Frost Sabres can be screens but when I take those I like to have them deepstrike with my Hunter usually.
  5. Khorne must be pleased with that battle! The Bloodthirster heavy armies can be pretty deadly for the unwary opponent, especially with a properly used Blood Tithe and Slaughterhost effects. But Ogors have the Beastclaw toughness which is a great counter to much of the Blood God's tricks. If you can find some other battletomes on the cheap you could proxy-hammer for practice. Not ideal but can be useful.
  6. Wow, I think a FLoSH with Amulet of Destiny could be tanky enough to withstand direct combat with a Gatebreaker now. With double Warlord or Command Entourages, one could have another FLoSH with Manticore Venom for extra smashy horns. Gotta tinker with this, but I also like the idea of having Ironguts as Battleline, just because. .....nevermind, the points don't work out. Can't have double Warlord with 3 FLoSHs either.
  7. I still don't have a Cockatrice, or Chariots, or any Ungors of any kind. Might have to wait til Christmastime for any of those. For sure I need to try out the new Warherd extra Broken Realms rules. That could give them the edge I have lacked in my most recent practice games.
  8. Is the FLoSHs stone skeleton save not a ward save?
  9. I've seen a few instances where the Taker Tribe has definitely given me the edge to score objectives. But the Stomper route is making me curious now. Gonna have to give that a whirl next time. A 4 mega army could go double Bosses for triple artefacts! Breaker Tribe might be good for that one. Amulet on a Gatebreaker, Vial of Manticore Venom on a Warstomper, and either Portcullis or ? on either of the others?
  10. Gatebreaker with the amulet, and Warstomper with Caestus, plus 2 Mancrusher Mobs...that sounds pretty good to me. Gatebreaker can be using regular CAs whilst the Warstomper can use the Stomper CAs, so some things can almost be done twice per phase like Mancrushers running 6" and then charging....and then causing extra damage with their clubs. I might have to make more Mancrushers to try it out now.
  11. I got a box of Dragon Ogors for my birthday! Very excited, such a cool looking unit. And I predict someday in the next year we'll get a new tome and the Thunderscorn will get a plastic Shaggoth and augmented rules, cuz DRAGONS. Also plastic Doombull and probably new Bullgors too. That and the odd monster or two are really all the Beasts need model wise (besides a plastic Morghur for their god-hero). In the meantime I'll be playing my Sons of Behemat for this autumnal tournament season, but next year will be my year of the Beasts to git gud with them. Or at least figure them out a little better. I really like the looks of the double weapons on my Dragon Ogors but I'll wait to glue their arms on until later. The Crushers are pretty awesome too.
  12. Mmmyeah, that is tasty. BUT I failed to cast or unbind everything in my most recent game. And he was only using Slaves to Darkness. When it works it would be amazing, but over time I think the non-wizarding would pay off more steadily.
  13. I'm of the opinion that the Swift bonus is best for a Mancrusher Mob. Then a unit of 3 could run and charge with the 6" for free, and use a CP for All Out Attack to break some ranks hardcore. Their range can reach over tiny round bases too. Still not convinced taking a wizarding artefact is superior to a damaging artefact (Vial of Manticore Venom is looking good to me).
  14. Tried out the Taker Tribe, one of each w 3 single Mancrushers tonight vs Slaves to Darkness. Mission was Apex Predators. He had a Manticore Sorcerer, Krakadrak Lord, Sorcerer, 3x5 Knights w sorcelled weapons, 4 chariots, and 3 varanguards. I had the Glowy Lantern/Sandals w Amulet of Destiny on the Gatebreaker. I went first and hopped onto the objectives which I held all of until the end of turn 4 when my Warstomper finally fell to 2x5 Knights, the Manticore, and 2 Varanguards left. I was always ahead on points because of the Mightier Makes Rightier of course, but also accomplishing a couple Battle Tactics with monsters assisted the edge ahead. We both Held the Line for Grand Strategy. Apex Predators is a terribly boring mission, especially for the Sons. At least he went about charging me turn 2. I initially kicked the center objective back with my Kraken Eater (who should have been to the right side for safety) but then he Soulsnared the center of the table so I slowly kicked up that objective, failed to achieve a Battle Tactic turn 3, but then got the Savage Spearhead turn 4 after running the Kraken Eater and a Mancrusher. Turn 5 I ran those and my Gatebreaker together to get Ferocious Advance. Boring end as I couldn't charge after running. But he charged his Manticore into my Kraken Eater turn 5 and took all but 1 wound, then struck with his spiky tail, hit, and failed to wound.... My General LIVES! Glowy Lantern did jack squat for me. I think I'll take the -1 to hit CT next time. Seems more useful as it's always turned on. Magick schmagick. Very happy with the new White Dwarf Tome Celestial battalions though. Warstomper is meh vs Knights but I could see playing Manskittles as highly wonderful vs thinks like Skaven or Lumineth. With Finest Hour and All Out Attack, not too bad at all. Might give Kragnos a whirl instead of the Gatebreaker next time and see if his thwacking power can trade off vs the Gatebreaker. He won't have the objective holding though.
  15. I have been wanting to try out the HoTT and use Curse. That could help Mournfangs be more like the old Eurlbad vs 1 unit anyways. Might be kinda neat to run like 3 HoTT and dominate with prayers, take Bloodgullet too and toss out 6 or more spells per turn. Give the Ogors a busy hero phase for a change.
  16. Welcome to the fray! Are those the models you have or models you are thinking about getting? I think 3 Ghorgons might be fun. You could achieve a couple different Battle Tactics with them alone. Cygors though, those could work too. Not an easy model kit to magnetize, but possible, so you could experiment. I might recommend to drop both units of Gors and take at least 1 allied Mindstealer Sphiranxes. They are also Monsters, and can let the Beasts strike first against 2 different enemy units. Ungors can still run and charge and move the extra 3" from the Bray Shaman effect; they make excellent screen units. Also if you're using Gavespawn, take at least 1 Chaos Spawn. It would be very good to fit most of the army into the Battle Regiment, and then have the Alpha Beast Pack. However, for Running and Charging units, it would be good to put 1 into a Vanguard Core Battalion for the free 6" run guaranteed....and then I'd probably use it on a massive unit of Bestigors, and depending on what they fight, do All Out Defence or Attack. Also scroll above to see those extra rules the Beasts of Chaos got in the recent Broken Realms book. That should help augment their performance. Not great times to be a Beasts player but hopefully later this year or early next year we'll be updated and back on the hooves instead of the shelf.
  17. Magnetizing the arms and hands with some quick setting epoxy-putty (kinda like plumber's repair putty from the hardware store) is really easy to do. The heads are a little harder but very do-able. What I did (and I'll take a picture later tonight) was to again use the putty, inside the back of the head to stick a paper clip, though a strip of thin sheet steel is better, and have it protrude long enough down into the torso-back, and have a magnet stuck to the inside of the torso. Thus the head can be removed easily but stay in place as needed. The body bits for decoration I would just mix and match a bit from each type, or just trophy bits from random assortments.
  18. WoW, Gotrek sounds ridiculous! I haven't ever faced him yet. My buddy and I planning a 3K practice match. He's thinking of using Soulblight, but I'm gonna see if he has enough Order to do anything with Gotrek yet. I haven't fought DoK or KO yet either. Really gotta get more practice in somewhere soon. I've fought Seraphon a little bit but not enough.
  19. I agree, while durable, the ABCs of 3.0 for Ogors might be Always Be Charging. The Trampling is too good. Wish we had a retreat and charge thing.
  20. Well got the game in. Didnโ€™t take too long. Mission was first blood. Turned out I had 7 drops for the Ogors to 6 for the SoBs. Ogors had to go first. I used ferocious advance and captured all 3 objectives for 6 points. Ironblaster failed to wound. Giants stormed forth to capture all those objectives and scored Conquer. So 6 points answered. They killed no Stonehorns outright but 3 were heavily wounded and bracketed. Ogors got turn 2 Priority, going for Break the Ranks (kill a battleline) and two more Stonehorns crashed into the kraken eater and adjacent mancrusher. Killed the mancrusher with decent trampling charges and a stomp monster action. No objectives scored however as all giants still at least about half strength or more. Only one stonehorn died though. Then bottom of turn 2 Giants declare Bring it Down and Kragnos , who had been hanging back a bit turn 1, rolled up, charged, and did 24 MW on the charge to the Svard Stonehorn who had healed with hero action to 5 wounds. The center Stonehorn got Bouldered by a gatebreaker and clobbered. Decided it was over then. I think I could have held back the Stonehorns hoping for a more impressive mass charge onto a single giant but then Iโ€™d be lacking any early objective points. Letโ€™s say 9-12 MW from 3 tramples, a stomp for maybe 2 more, 3 metal crunchers for another 9-10....so maybe I could have killed off one megagargant after the frostlord could strike. But the model count of one taker tribe mega is three Stonehorns worth. Tough matchup no matter what. Sorry it was on my carpet and poorly lit Fun stuff though!
  21. Practice for 3k tournament this weekend vs Sons Of Behemat w Kragnos/taker tribe w kraken eater -1 to hit/ 3 Gatebreakers/1 Mancrusher. Iโ€™m gonna run Boulderhead w Beastmaster strategy w: Icebrow Hunter (General, Lord Of Beasts) 5 FLoSH w all metalcruncher, 1 w brand of the Svard, 1 w maybe Seed of Rebirth? Healing is good right? 2 Slaughtermasters (ribcracker, greasy deluge) 4x2 frost sabres for battle line ironblaster I think I can do a Warlord and Battle Regiment with this and out drop the giants. Guess it depends on the mission who I want to go first. But the hunter is there just for CPs of course. Idea being to cram a giant or two w multiple Stonehorns at once to cripple them hard in the charge phase. Guess I could ditch the slaughtermasters and ironblaster for a HoTT but the cauldron pluckings are so nice sometimes. Will report a pictures after the battle. Might be on my living room rug but Iโ€™ll try to get a real table at the game store if I can.
  22. Thatโ€™s a Soul Grinder torso and chassis, slaughter brute head, dankhold troggoth arms and shaft and hands, random bits for the flail head, mauler fiend armor, and the legs are from a vintage HeMan robot horse called Stridor (pretty cheap on eBay or flea markets/garage sale). Ugh, saw that today. I imagine theyโ€™ll be single artillery pieces limited to 4 per 2k. Hopefully not reinforceable. And theyโ€™ll be poison for the cherry on top ๐Ÿ’
  23. Awesome! Thank you for posting that. That will help out my Bullgors. Looks like I want to get some Dragon Ogors too.
  24. Just when I thought I couldn't like them any better, we get MORE!
