  1. Definitely one reason I'm a little nervous I overbought with the D'Aelves...besides having too much stuff already. But the Black Guard and Excecutioners are pretty awesome looking, and really kinda almost proxyable as Lumineth spear and sword guys....they could be the opposite: the Lumbraneth. Until Malerion finally gets his act together and makes a battletome. Then they might find a home there?! But should be at least a couple years longer we'll be able to use these oldies. So maybe I need 80 Corsairs?
  2. Great to hear the Corsairs did something! I wasn't sure they had the staying power to get anything accomplished. Really debating whether or not I want to actually build mine, or just buy some built, or forget about them. Pretty cheap bodies though, not Clanrat cheap of course.
  3. I'm thinking about my Dark Aelves and the awesome spells they have. Looks like 2-3 Sorceresses would be good, if not necessary, to max out the usage of their abilities to shore up the glass-cannons that are the D'Aelves. Seems like they should be able to get off Tenebrael Shards much of the time with a sacrifice (so they'll need at least 20 Dreadspears for that). I also like the theoretical combo of Umbral Hex plus the Kharybdis, but a Spell Portal might be needed to launch the Hex far enough. I usually avoid Endless Spells but the Portal could be good for the Shards also, even with the Anklet of Epiphany's range buff. Gotta keep the ladies out of harm's way. Not sure I want to build 20 Corsairs for my old Lokhir Fellheart to lead, so I might make him a Cthulhoid Dragon to ride and be a Dreadlord. I like the Drakespawn Knights with accompanying chariot(s) though. In Misthavn that's a solid turn 1 charge, followed by waves of maybe Dreadlord with Kharybdiss and Hydras, then Executioners. Looking at the Cities tactics, hard to do too many with the Aelves. Could do the 3 charging units one, possibly Suppressed Fire one with the Hydras, unlikely to do the Blackpowder one with any army unless it's just all shooty.
  4. You could pretty easily find someone to buy the book and cards, and you'd have plenty of Steelhelms to surround the Pontifex (cuz you'll want her later), and double cavalry which are looking excellent! Toss in any other human units, maybe a Hurricanum or some Battlemages, and that's a great human list for many of the Cities.
  5. Chosen are so bloody slow, I think I liked it better when they were Tzeentch w the shooty-ward-save banner, and flung them up the field, though now only going 9" is pretty meh. If nobody buys my Chaos Dwarves Bull-Centaur Knights, I'll just make 1 more KarkaLords and run this list. I think they can all run'n'charge then in there. And I get to use my beloved Chaos Dwarves Lammasu! My Chariots are going to be moving back to Ogor country, since they're piloted by Ogor-Rhinos centaurs anyways....and get big ol' cannons slapped on there. 6. Anyone know about the Cavalier and CavMarshal base sizes? Thought I saw somewhere they're on the 60x35mm ovals but can't seem to find it in when I'm searching.
  7. Stanks vs KO, stanks got tabled turn 4. KO are pretty darn brutal, even in combat. I shoulda shot at the balloon boys inside the boats first. Battle tactics are hard these days no matter what. So are grand strategies. I think with a little tooling and 1 or 2 less tanks they can get better support and some other units to go off to nab other objectives. Luminark is meh without Living City for the prime positioning, and a 6+ ward is alright but nothing to write home about. Think I'd use the Mage version next time for Pha's Protection, which is excellent on a Commander-Tank. Next Stank practice game will be tomorrow I think vs Soulblight. I'll trade out the Luminark, Vigilors, and probably 1 Tank for allied Tree Revenants, Lord-O, and some Cavaliers and a CavMarshal. That'll give me at least some extra combat prowess, a teleporting unit, and more speed, plus an extra Order. Though I will say with the More Pressure thing and Advance Formation those tanks can move!
  8. Regarding Orders, counters/tokens (even a scrap of paper with the Order written on it) is an absolute must. I wouldn't let people play them without it.
  9. Starting the Dark Aelves Cult of Cthulu. Assembling some boxes of Executioners. Was considering making 10 Black Guard/10 Executioners, but I think 20 Executioners is too spicy to not do. Hoping the Black Guard bits will fit onto the Dreadspears okay. Looks like I just have to clip a flat spot on the shoulders of the arm bits, and of course, lop off the unfancy heads. Guess they deserve some capes but I want 2x10 Black Guard for Battleline. Probably not super OP, and everything is rather squishy and vulnerable. But should be pretty fast and shifty, with a few potentially deadly shock units, possibly striking first with good Orders discipline. Wish the Dreadlord on Dragon was cheaper though, feel like I need a tougher Hero to get in there...woulda been neat to have a Drakespawn Dreadlord like that old Malus Darkblade had. At least I think he did? Tentative list for this (probably) Misthavn army: Sorceress (general, Secretive Warlock, Anklet of Epiphany, Tenebrael Blades) Sorceress (Umbral Hex) Fleetmaster (maybe Venomfang Blade, or just Amulet of Destiny?) 2x10 Black Guard (battleline) 10 Bleakswords (batteline) 20 Executioners 20 Corsairs w paired blades 2 Kharybdisses Geminids Cthulhu Whalebiter
  10. Thank you for the corrections; I need to practice reading things more. Alas, my Slaves lost again, this time vs Sylvaneth. Close game though in Nexus Collapse. I (wrongly) teleported my BLizzard guy to try and nail Alarielle, but she healed everything in her turn. Turn 2 he went into Durthu, and he later healed everything too. Guess that wouldn't have happened at all had I read correctly. The Speed I realized though, and didn't even matter much, as after the Knights plunged into the Dryads (who are AMAZINGLY tanky due to their debuffs), Durthu came in and whacked them apart despite being Eroding Nurgle Knights over a few rounds of combat. I very very very nearly got the Bring Ruin to the Realms but lacked the heroes enough to make that 3 within 3" of an enemy tactic. And I couldn't shut down his Grand Strat of battleline survival either cuz he of course could teleport his last 3 Dryads across the table. My chariots were hanging in there until Alarielle took out two in one swoop (she can fly 16"!). I held the Chosen back too much but shoulda run them up 6" turn 1 to the center and see where they needed to go. 2 more games in this quarter of the League. Not looking forward to them.
  11. I am really fed up with my Slaves to Darkness army but LOVE my chariot conversions which are pushed by Ironblaster pilot-Rhinox centaurs. Sons of the Rhinox, as it were. So I got the Ogors tome, and am thinking that I should just plop the big cannons with a loading Gnoblar on them. Going with 4 Ironblasters to start, should I go Leadbelchers for cheap battleline and blastyness? Or go Ironguts for combat supplements? Thinking either wizard, and a couple Bloodpelt Hunters or maybe a Tyrant for this army. I also have a mechanical Kragnos but I don't think I can fit him with all the Ironblasters in an army, so for using that, how about Meatfist, 5 Tyrants, 3x4 Leadbelchers? Any of these sound viable in the least? Not that it matters, I wanna use the chariots and mecha-Kragnos somehow.
  12. I'm only making the Cavalry Marshal, and he's the old metal Mechanical Steed Engineer. Maybe a big old wrench can be his weapon? Opened the first of my many Dark Elves boxes....gonna make 20 Executioners to start, and then later do 20 Black Guard assuming the heads and arms fit nicely onto the Dreadspear bodies at the POBox (10 of those are for spell sacrificing). Should I do a unit of 20 Executioners or make 2 chamipions for 2 units of 10?
  13. Not sure if this is what the discussion is about (foggy with a headache right now).... In terms of targeting the HGBs, after my Stank Commander prays to erase their ward save, I think they just wouldn't get their ward save if the prayer is successful. If my Stank Commander prays to erase the ward of the HGBs successfully, then targets the Runefather, I think he still dumps his wounds onto the HGBs and they would not get their ward save.
  14. Black Guard are just that, guards. They are certainly no HGBs, and you can't dump wounds onto them like a Runefather can to HGBs. I'm definitely taking 10 when I take Sorceress, but they won't be a full-on Battleline assortment like HGBs. Fyreslayers are much more about army-wide cohesion, and for me when I played them, a slow-moving volcano that can (if needed) spill the lava-flows out. But they function better with tightly packed infantry. The Magmadroths though, they can be much more independent. Were I to get back in the forge, I'd go Lofnir. Thinking about getting at least a Runesmiter on Droth for a Cities ally. Priest AND a Monster, good stuff....couple that with a Steam Tank Commander of Lethis with the Priest, you could be ignoring ward saves and getting Rend-3 Droth breath turn 2. SPICY
  15. Possible Practice list vs new Steam Tank Spam this weekend. Should be pretty exciting! It'll be on my floor though, so not as exciting as a real table. Fully null-deployed Ka-BAMM! I'm sure it'll just bounce off, but I have to try it once. 16. I was considering waiting for deals on eBay, and I've seen some that were 15% off or so, but wanted to throw my FLGS a bone on this army....and with their rewards programs I got $20 off. The Stanks I got 1 there, but the others elsewhere, though they weren't at much of a discount...but figured the prices would go up when stuff gets rereleased with new packaging (which might be why the Anvilguard is out of stock online amongst other boxes, and I guess Anvilguard isn't even in the book now).
  17. I'm actually a pretty fast and obsessive builder....it's the painting where I really drag. But the new 'SlapChop' method worked really well and fast for my ninja rats! So I may do that for these Umbraneth. But I am not so certain they'll be gone before a couple years at least. And at the VERY least they'll be in the Old World, so by then if I don't even want to play, they'll be useful to someone and I can resell them to some extent. Was just reading the Fusiliers combos ranting.....Clan Eshin wants to see who shoots more MW!
  18. Okay, I'm broke. But 2 boxes of Drakespawn Knights, 2 Sorcereresses, and a super cool old Fleetmaster called Lokhir Fellheart on the way! I think I'm good on Cities now. They'll all be painted by the time 4th edition comes out and the next Cities tome vanquishes all old ****** models from the playable line
  19. Well I didn't get a bunch of Flagellants yet, but I did get all the Dark Elves from my FLGS; 2 Anvilguard boxes and 2 boxes of Executioners/Black Guard. Not real sure which variant of the latter I'll build yet. For sure the Sorceresses need at least 10 Black Guard nearby, and 10 Spearmen (got 3 boxes of the Spearmen on the way....probably go w 10 Spears/20 Darkshards). But 20 Executioners is really really enticing. Maybe some Spears could be fancy halberds instead w alternate heads and be Black Guard? Looking at the Scourge Chariots, I think in units of 3 w the Fleetmaster AOA, that's 9 decent rend-2 shots, and vs a monster quite a bit of damage. Hmmmm. Hard to argue with the MW of the Drakespawn versions though so long as you have the Knights in range.
  20. Hello fellow evildoers! I'm once again fighting in the local League, and this Thursday's match is vs the Sylvaneth. I've attached pics of the lists though I've altered mine to be just 2 battle regiments, and gone with SLaanesh non-general KarkaLord and Chosen (no banner on them). I kinda know Sylvaneth and am wondering should I try to bait Durthu with the Knights? I think they can handle him actually....and then make space to try and cram 4 chariots into him to avoid the ethereal save he'll have? The terrain will be annoying, but if I'm not mistaken if I have a unit with 3" of the terrain he's near...can he not Strike'n'Fade then? Alarielle I'd love to get rid of, maybe the Blizzard for her. Cabalists should be able to get some spells off I hope. Gonna be a weird game, any hints or ideas are appreciated! I'm 0-2 so far (fought Kroak&Co game 1, then Katakros w Arkan and Immortis Guard, etc game 2, UGH).
  21. The random shots of the Steam Tanks will probably prove very frustratingly swingy, especially without any rend on them (not counting the single/double rend-2 shots). But they are at least theoretically durable and can usually hit better with the right heroes in range. I'm emailing GW tonight and messaging them on Facebook that War Machines need to count as 5 models for objectives in the next Battlescroll Update. Then they'd be definitely maybe worth it, and I have 7 of them already.
  22. Wow I though the Fusiliers were 3+/3+. That does stink, but they are feeble regular humans. Elves should be the 3+/3+! Like Legolas. My S'Tanks only hit of 4s naturally too but the Commander/Lord Ordinator/Vigilors will help that out. Maybe you need a Hurricanum or Vigilor allies to help them out? Since you'll be targeting usually 1 unit with them, Vigilors would make sense. Hurricanum of course is always on while it's alive, and might be good to have a wizard present, plus the late MW shooties.
  23. For my Cthulhu Cult Cities army, wondering if it's just terrible to ally in Bundo Whalebiter the megagargant....of course making him into a Cthulhu monster with a Mutalith face and tiny wings and scary claws of some sort? He's 440 points, is the one who can kick objectives, and stuff up to three tiny enemies in his net. Not bad actually, much better than the crappy One Eyed Grunnock Warstomper that Chaos gets. Wondering if too much theme will sacrifice viability. I could do 2 Kharybdisses and 2 WarHydras instead for the monsters. War Hydras do seem superior for the shooting and healing, but the no Inspiring Presence/Rally bubbles are pretty nice too actually.
  24. AND the Corsairs come with the Anvilguard box, and I want at least 2 of the sea monsters anyways Ninja pirates are cooler than plain old pistol pirates, you've convinced me on double blades. Seems like many of these older Cities units function reasonably well on their own and could sneak up on people. Sort of like multiple threat overload similar to Khorne likes to do (though for different reasons). Ooh wow, I missed the +2 to cast for the Sacrifice of the Sorceress. That's super good.
  25. What's that unit on the far left of the S Tier? Excecutioners? I would agree with that. Gonna have to get myself 20 of those I think. Hammerers are intriguing, but would require at least the Runelord to really make them shine for Rend-3, so I think some of the tier ratings really need accompaniments from the other tiers/cannot perform necessarily on their own. I don't think the Hammerers need a Warden King, but the King needs them. The Sorceress is amazing IF she can be getting her spells off. She would need an expensive entourage in the form of 10 Dreadspears (for sacrificing), at least 10 Black Guard (for the mutual ward save), the Epiphany Anklet (to extend her range of spells) and then probably to be the general to get Secretive Warlock for the extra casting buff. But if she gets Tenebrael Blades off on something like Archaon or Katakros, WOOT! Worth every point, but very iffy. The Luminark I think has play in multiples, but not necessarily on its own. The big 6+ ward bubble is useful, as is Pha's Protection with the Mage. But yeah, not S Tier probably (I'll report after I use it in Living City someday soon). Surprised that the Corsairs are S Tier? Cuz they're cheap? And which armament, double blades or shooty/blade? To get them to 30 dudes the Pirate Captain has to be general for battleline purposes. Not sure that's worth doing at all, but if taking them in 20 at least for sure worth taking the Captain for the extra attacks. 60 shooties (maybe after the T Blades spell?) or 80 choppies, that's a BOATload of attacks!
