  1. I'd call 2nd overall a triumph! So what was your guiding philosophy or mindset into building the list? And what are your thoughts on Draichi Ganeth?
  2. Honestly, looking at Morathi's profiles, I like her, but I can imagine she'd be very difficult to play (to her maximum potential). You'd ideally want to balance her between her two forms, and transition from one to the other at the optimal time, otherwise you risk leaving a lot of points idle at the wrong time. And here's the older list from another tournament he was in back in May. Obviously a few things have changed as the Bloodwrack Shrine seems to have been dropped, likely in response to the increased Battalion costs. EDIT: That Slaughter Queen on Cauldron of Blood is making everything incredibly tanky around her. +1 to Armor, 5+ AND re-rolling Fanatical Faith rolls. Those Sisters of Slaughter with Buckler's would be incredibly tough.
  3. Did some digging and found an older version of his list combined with some shots from his Twitter. Looks like a Hag Narr Temple - Slaughter Queen on Cauldron, Hag Queen and Bloodwrack Medusa. 30 Witch Aelves, 30 Sisters of Slaughter?, 10 SoS?, 5 Doomfires, 10 Blood Sisters, 2x5 Heartrenders, Slaughter Troupe. He's on Twitter so maybe poking him on there might get you a response.
  4. I think going outside of the established meta, especially for an older army like Blades of Khorne is always worthwhile and I look forward to the reports on your testing. My focus is primarily on finishing my army aesthetically and then starting a Daughters of Khaine army so I wont be doing much diverse playing. @MOMUS I am like minded with you in that I prefer my Bloodbound Heroes with Warriors, 'reavers and 'letters to make up my forces. That being said, while Skarbrand isnt always competitive, he's a terrible amount of fun when he deletes things off the board. My friend who plays Death HATES him.
  5. I do not believe you can summon Skarbrand. Gotta pony up the points for him up front. But that's okay, because you want him getting hit and going nuclear. Semi-related: I love Bloodreavers because they're such good chaff most of the time. But if you turn your attention on them, they can become absolute murder machines. If you play against a lot of the same opponents, being able to draw their attention away from them after a few matches by throwing them away will really surprise them when you give them a boat load of attacks and mulch through anything, allowing the stronger units that can hold their own to broaden the power level across your whole army. My gaming group used to think nothing of my Bloodreavers. Then they got bit and haven't trusted them since. I also liked them more when they were only 60 points and didn't have a save, because then it didn't matter what you sent them against. It essentially negated any advantage of high rend weaponry since there was nothing to rend!
  6. Well, first remember that it's a game. Cliche, un-comforting thing to say, I know. You did well against your enemy so there's no reason to ask about what you could've done better against the Death player since it sounds like he was across the table from you. In those situations, you might actually learn more since the odds are further stacked against you! I believe we were just discussing how to deal with Death army's a page or two ago and the consensus was floods of attacks and extra attacks out of phase. Pump up those Blood Warriors! Being able to summon demons would help match you against Death's summoning, so it's a thought. But I think the best tactic is to just pump your buffs into one or two units and have them do enough work that Death doesn't get a chance to regen.
  7. Okay, so I got a hold of a Daughters of Khaine .pdf to peruse until I start building. Decided to make a 1k points list as a proverbial toe in the water. I know it's important to not try to do too many things when you run a list like this, so I've essentially built this up around the Blood Sisters being the main problem-causers. Targeting them with most of the buffs and padding them with Battleline to absorb threats so they can make it to their objective. I was weighing back and forth on SoS' or Witch Elves and I'd like to hear the veteran's thoughts on what would be better in smaller point games. Obviously Witch Elves will put out more attacks, but I kind of like the Sister's pile in dynamic and whip range. In either case, they're serving either as chaff for the Blood Sisters or a cheap objective grabber. If I go with the Witch Elves, I'd get the extra Command Point though, so I'm wondering if that's worth considering. I'd definitely be taking Bucklers to give them a potential 4+ in combat with the Cauldron if it's close enough. Not to mention an improved Fanatical Faith roll from the Hagg Nar Temple. Lastly, I chose Khinerai Heartrenders for their versatility. I think that them having rend and reach makes up for not having the Lifetakers' extra damage and close combat prowess. Grabbing a distant objective or deep striking in to make an attempt at a valuable enemy hero and hopefully cause some disarray before their inevitable demise. I appreciate your time and consideration! EDIT 1: Also @Overread I went with another five Blood Sisters, but ended up with a Hag Queen and chose to pick up a Sorceress and some Eternal Spells instead of Assassins as I just couldn't make them fit. Looking at my 1k List, though, I'm thinking I might retool this to build off of that so I don't end up with loads of expensive models sitting on the shelf when I transition to 2k...... EDIT 2: And on that note, here's my 2k Death Masques list which would be an expansion over the 1k List above: We have a switch in Temple here. Depending on the game, buffs may be allocated to the Blood Sisters, Witch Aelves or the larger Sisters of Slaughter unit. The idea of them getting rerolls of 1 on the charge, being able to run and charge, re-rolling to wound with Witch Brew and any other bonuses they might get is big. Being able to hit out of phase with the Slaughter Queens also helps in a huge way, and being able to tap both Queens for their abilities (on separate units, mind you) will ensure things die and die fast... okay well maybe not ensure, but hopefully! Meanwhile Doomfire Warlocks will add the only magic offense. Mindrazor might not get popped first turn if they're still 10 strong in order to take advantage of their potential 6 Mortal wounds that could snipe an enemy hero right off the board. After that, assuming they live, it's Mindrazor in most situations. Khinerai Heartrenders are situational. Either working together in the backfield, or splitting up to support the other units. As always, thank you for your time and consideration.
  8. To provide the perspective of this same conversation that just happened in the Khorne thread (albeit in regards to Nighthaunts), the philosophy is Death by a Million cuts. When faced with tough units that regenerate, ignore rend and just seem to absorb damage all around, the best philosophy is to hit them as much as possible. Not just with units that have boosted attack profiles, but also trying to hit out of phase. Simple things like Temple Nest's MW on an opponents hit roll of 1, Slaughter Queen's Orgy of Slaughter, Morathi's Worship Through Bloodshed, etc. If the problem is durability, then maybe seek out allying some units in. I was planning on eventually getting Order Serpentis and Idoneth Deepkin units which seem to bring longevity. As my experience is mostly with Khorne, realize that my opinion is flawed. But I'm used to paper-thin heavy hitters like Bloodreavers and Bloodletters that have been supercharged into blender mode while being backed up by tankier infantry. DoK at least have mobility, range and magic that they can tap to find ways around their shortcomings, but allies can offer tough stand alone units to help you. Ishlaen Guard, War Hydra's, Drakespawn Knights and a Dreadlord on Black Dragon seem to be good friends in this regard.
  9. So I've been out of the game for a little over a year now. I've been mostly piling up Chaos stuff (StD, Khorne Mortals/Daemons) and I figured it might be time to sate my bloodlust with a different God of War. I really like Daughters of Khaine because I feel like they fit my play-style a bit more, and give me access to Magic. I'm in love with the models and rules, but I really only know as much about them as I can glean from looking at warscrolls and perusing 1d4chan tactics pages. I'm a huge fan of hit and run tactics and I love the idea of Khinerai Heartrenders and Doomfire Warlocks rushing around the board and peppering things to death before Blood Sisters or pumped up Battleline units can move in and finish them off. I've made this list as a starting point and am wondering where I should go from here for Heroes? I'm also willing to swap out my general and Blood Sisters for Witch Elves or Sisters of Slaughter (and am curious about everyone's thoughts on the pros/cons between the two based on your experience). I'd ideally like to use the DoK as a starting point for a larger Aelf collection, using them as the basis to ally in other units from Idoneth Deepkin and Order Serpentis. Thanks for your time and any feedback you can offer.
  10. Yes, Skarbrand's kit comes with some of the bits from the regular Bloodthirsters.
  11. @Ravinsild That list looks worthy of a game or two to me! Can the Chieftain be marked Khorne, though? I might suggest the Bloodstoker as you said, or an Aspiring Deathbringer instead. Tuck the AspiD in with a blob of Wrathmonger-backed 'reavers to either super-duper charge them, or put him in with the other blob so they both get a +1. You'll be throwing out more attacks than can be replenished.
  12. There is no single cure all tactic. You need to evaluate his deployment and respond. But if his army is playing aggressively and moving quick, then maybe slow things down and make sure your synergies are all working. It might help to bring out an Exalted Deathbringer (or two) to use his Command Ability in case your Bloodsecrator goes pewf. The one with the spear could also be handy at removing a nasty opponents hero but either will do. MLoK, Exalted Deathbringer, Slaughterpriests and Bloodsecrator should be your units. Try to talk your wallet into a Bloodthirster. Maybe even Valkia since she can fly and assassinate a hiding hero. Strongly recommend some Chaos Warriors for their toughness in the future.
  13. One of my game group played Death and it was equally as frustrating. In fact, as I recall, I think I may have only ever beaten him once. I believe Death's weakness is synergies, much like our own army. Use your Slaughterpriests and any ranged attack you can muster to try to remove the heads of the undead snake. Use your Battleline as screens for hordes to avoid your better units and characters from getting tied up. This is an area where the Mighty Lord of Khorne, Skarbrand and the Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage (Especially the BoIR!) can shine. The MLoK and Skarbrand can delete large single units off the board, which prevents your opponent from healing or replenishing their wounds. The BoIR can wipe hordes of Skeletons with his axe if the dice are rolling well. Otherwise, stack up on Slaughterpriests and pray your enemies leaders to death. I hate to say it, but Gore Pilgrims. Also, if you have Chaos Warriors with Shields, use them. Those shields help their survival rate by magnitudes against Death.
  14. I think, any time you can get away with not using the Bloodsecrator, do it! Good opportunity to try other things out and fit the army to your playing style. Without the Bloodsecrator present, it sounds like you're taking advantage of your speedier units (since he's not anchoring your movement), and as you said, the MSU philosophy mitigates the loss of bravery ignoring. I don't see why you're having trouble with a second punch after the Alpha Strike. Khorne has access to a lot of good elite infantry as well as vicious mobs in the form of Bloodreavers. It sounds like GHB2 (haven't played since it came out, sadly, as my game group has kinda drifted) has made playing with two Battalions to be an unrealistic proposition, otherwise I would've suggested a Dark Feast battalion or something along those lines. But I think some buffed infantry should be able to hit follow up a Cavalry charge. What is your experience? I personally only have two units of Bloodcrushers and my one unit of Mighty Skullcrushers has been under assembly for longer than three models ought to, sadly, so I don't have a lot of experience with Khorne's infantry. Thus, I rely on hard hitting tough infantry to win my games.
  15. While I would point out that the tongues make a great part to use an accent color on to break up all the red, the tongue and the elongated skull part are actually one piece of the kit. The face and horns are conveniently attached, so you'd just need to ball up some green stuff to finish out their head/skull and thus give it something to attach to the torso with. It'd be pretty simple to do even if you've never used Green Stuff before
  16. I think the Wrath of Khorne 'thirster needs at least one Khorne Daemon unit to let you make the most of it's Command Ability. I might suggest a unit of Blood Crushers as you don't like Daemons so the fewer the better, plus their "speed" will be able to make better use of the WoK's ability. Throw the crushers across the board quickly at something they have a decent chance of killing and watch your opponent's knee ****** as his strategy is potentially compromised. Otherwise, if any ole 'thirster will do, then the Insensate Rage works on the cheap end. You're not losing as much without being able to tap his command ability, you get a big scary monster your opponent will throw things at, and if the dice god is in your favor and your opponent has placed his units poorly (or has a horde or multiple hordes), you have the potential to go nuclear with that axe of his. Do everything in your power to give him additional attacks! However, he is situational at best. On the flip side, you've got Skarbrand. He doesn't play with others regardless of who is next to him and creates a "Damned if you do, Damned if you don't" situation for your opponents. The drawback being that his kit is more expensive and his points cost is as well.
  17. I wasn't really attempting to make Unit cards, rather my goal was to make actual MtG Creature cards by adapting the rules to fit MtG's.
  18. Mortals should be Black and Red, indeed! But Bloodbound are full red.
