  1. That was one of the interesting things in BR Morathi - that either on purpose, or because they couldn’t - they kept most of the most powerful souls within Slaanesh. The whole thing is a bit weird - it often sounds like they are finished with the soul extractions, except when they are not. They probably keep this open as a plot device. Didn’t Morathi also take some souls with her as presents for the Idoneth? Normally Lumineth souls at least seem to go to their own underworlds though, and aren’t sucked back into Slaanesh.
  2. I don’t think that’s the main motivation. He didn’t try to wipe out the Lumineth although they aren’t perfect either. He himself was a cripple for a long time, and considered deficient by his peers. Anger at his failure - probably played a role too. But I don’t think it was the only or even main motivation. Because we also know he tried to heal the Idoneth first, only after nothing worked, he contemplated wiping them out. The failure which Teclis feels the most is that it’s partly his fault that the elves were eaten by Slaanesh and have to endure endless torment. He was a shell until the elf gods found out that they could help the elven souls. They use the word “grief” when he sees that the offspring of the Idoneth are dying and they are in constant pain etc. That’s in the Lumineth Battletome. If they wanted to say that it was mostly motivated by pride/shame I think they’d used another word there. In the Idoneth Battletome, it says straight away that Teclis feared that the Idoneth were corrupted and he tried to look into their souls to find out the truth, but couldn’t get see past a shadow and his gaze caused them pain, some were driven mad - so they tried to hide. There is nothing in there about his pride being the motivation. You can still assume it is part of the equation of course, but it’s not shown as the main factor in the source books.
  3. I’d probably use the blue, but might be a bit too strong. You could do both, to distinguish your units from each other.
  4. Probably the Newborn. They mentioned in BR Teclis that Tyrion was heading towards the Pit of Carthartia - which leads to Ulgu. So it's either Slaanesh - which seems likely - or Malerion/Morathi which I can't see as a larger threat than Nagash. But then .. who knows what Malerion has been up all this time ^^ I don't think LRL will be much involved in the rest of the BR series. Maybe Teclis talking to Alarielle or something like that if at all. Btw. I disagree a bit with what you wrote about the LRL tome - for the most part it's written very well, the rules are thematic and fit with the background lore. There aren't that many rules where it feels like they just wanted to make it complicated (Bladelords are a bit like that for example). And you normally won't have all these rules within one army list. You have a lot of choice, including the choice to make relatively simple, straightforward lists. When reviewers go through the book they have to mention everything of course, but not everything always counts in every list.
  5. You don’t. There are two mistakes in BR Teclis, which they’ll correct in their FAQ: - Lore of Hysh not updated to include Scinari - Calligrave’s spell saying d3 wounds instead of d3 mortal wounds. Everything else is identical. After the FAQ both books should be 100% identical. Still Bad that this happened, and that they didn’t say anything, but you don’t need to buy another book for your peace of mind.
  6. This is the list I will try as my main list. I really had so much fun with the Loreseeker and the Twins: Zaitrec Leaders: Ellania & Elathor (260) Scinari Loreseeker (160) Scinari Cathallar (140) Scinari Calligrave (100) Vanari Lord Regent (150) Battleline 20 X Vanari Warden (240) 10 x Vanari Warden (120) 10 x Vanari Bladelords (240) 5 x Vanari Bladelords (120) 20 X Vanari Sentinels (280) 5 x Vanari Dawnrider (130) Endless Spells Hyshian Twinstones (30) Sanctum of Anymtok (30) 2,000 That probably answers your question : ) For pure competitive reason though, I’d stick to 5. It likely also depends on what you face, and how the rest of your army works. For the most part I had Protection of Hysh up. And the Bladelords are Vanari, so -1 to hit if you want. Plus the aetherquartz. Not super tanky, but it’ll take a while to chew through that for some opponents. But it really also depends on your local meta. If you opponents have many good targets for your Bladelords, they have 2” reach, you can probably make 10 work.
  7. Agreed! Anything else would be a travesty. But like Josh wrote, OBR are immune to some of our other abilities, and this hasn’t been rectified since MONTHS. I’ve already written a very sternly worded mail to GW about this inconsiderate situation.
  8. If you can't relate to Teclis, it's no wonder that the book doesn't work for you. I agree with you about the missing "normal person" part. I think I misunderstood what you meant there in your first post. They had good opportunities to do that with all the new named heroes for the Lumineth they put in. They also didn't do much at all with the OBR. The book could have used a ven Brecht. The hardship and losses of the Lumineth are shown though, very much so. I think more than what they do in BR Morathi, because neither Morathi nor her DoK care about people getting hurt or killed. In BR Teclis, they use the Cathallar pretty well in that respect, even showing Lumineth soldiers trying to cope with what's basically PTSD form their campaigns in Shyish. They write about how hard it is for the Lumineth to have to burn the bones of their fallen, how desperate that is, etc. If you don't care about that, just because these aren't named individuals, I think that's on you (because you can't relate), not on the story writers. Where did they show the suffering of normal DoK in BR Morathi? They are just throw-away tools for Morathi anyway. Nor are the normal defenders in Anvilguard fleshed out any better than what happens in BR Teclis. On Teclis I disagree, naturally : ). There isn't some nebulous "darkness" within the Idoneth, it's concrete, they have crippled souls, almost all of their children died in infancy (only 1 in 100 survives - how much suffering does this cause?), they were in constant pain in Hysh and many of them went mad. If you look at what the Idoneth have to do to survive you could make the case that wiping them out would have caused less pain overall. At least thinking about that - especially if you just made a creation out of souls which came from inside Slaanesh - are confronted with such a result, it's not weird to consider the possible repercussions - to at least think about it might be better to end this. It isn't totally out of bounds, or hypocritical to me at least.
  9. Lumineth have a spell to snipe the Hekathos (unit champion) though, and then the units can't use their RDP. : ) . Just saying. cough.... . More of a joke though, it's one spell (in the "Mountain Lore"). And OBR are immune to all the CP shenanigans and bravery stuff too, so the generally suffer less from some of the control abilities of the Lumineth. Not sure they have a lot of protection against MW though. I have a feeling that in your next game there won't be as many Sentinels around to snipe your heroes, so it might be less of a problem ^^
  10. I think it’s not a right/wrong issue. I also don’t think the current situation is perfect : ).
  11. I think it's ok to have one army like the KO or Lumineth among such a big range of factions. For me for example - MW says "magic effect", which differs from -3 or -4 rend (which is essentially the same - you don't get a save). Which means you can differentiate factions from each other - MW are more magic-focused factions, and sometimes more magic-resistant factions (in case of wards). It's an extra layer you can work with to differentiate. I feel the same about Fly High - it's something which makes KO special, and I think it's ok as a mechanic, even if it's really annoying for some factions - as long as only a few armies have it. Some people really enjoy playing with such a mobile army, that get's destroyed if it's cornered, but will win almost unscathed if not. It's the same with Idoneth - their ability to control who you can shoot. Or Undead being immune to Battleshock. Even though all those things can be rough to deal with for some factions, ultimately I think it makes for a more interesting game, and attract more people to the game, even though some match-ups will suffer and become less interesting. But likely we'll see them swing in another direction again in AoS 3.0. The developers always change things to keep it fresh and interesting. The game was melee-centric for a long time, now it's more about shooting, and magic is strong. It will change again, I'm sure.
  12. Have you read the book? It wasn't easy at all. And Ymetrica Warden#56,893 didn't defeat Nagash that was Teclis. Nor did Ymetrica Warden#56,893 defeat Arkhan, that was Eltharion. And both of them will be back. And if it's only gods and heroes that matter, other people wouldn't like that. I think it's done quite well, "normal people" still mattered in the conflict, even duels among gods, but to a large part these things were decided between the main characters. I think, if there was a problem in this, it would be more on the other side. We sadly didn't get a new ven Brecht. If they'd developed one of the minor characters more (be it our KO captain, or the Deathrider leader, or the Cathallar leader for example), that would have been good. That was one of my favorite parts about BR Morathi. I think the whole thing just doesn't feels epic to you - because you are likely not a big fan of Lumineth/Teclis nor Nagash. The duel between Teclis and Nagash was pretty epic, as well as the attack on Shiysh. Floating rock castles, sky high animated bone structures that smash them. Or people sacrificing their lives just to get to the outer end of Hysh, sacrificing yourself to provide a better afterlife for everyone etc. It doesn't have to feel epic to you of course, but neither does it mean it's inherently badly written just because it doesn't. They used pretty much the same approach as in BR Morathi - serval armies armies attacking/defending while the protagonist/antagonist tries to reach their goal within a time limit - her reaching godhood in BR Morathi, and here it was Nagash destroying Avalenor while everyone struggled to stop them. Ending an arc is often not as satisfying as making something new. Look at how many complaints there are about almost every ending of a popular TV or movie series. I also doubt this will be the best book in the Broken Realms alone because of that. But, I also don't think the quality was worse than BR Morathi.
  13. Really nice colours, that works super well!! 😍
  14. Some armies having no protection at all against MW is certainly a problem. And fully buffed Sentinels with Lambent Light are really scary, and I can see how it can be not fun to be on the receiving end of them - because they reliably are able to delete or at least cripple even bigger threats, which happened in my last game - I one-shot a Sorceress on a Black Dragon. Now the Sorceress isn't the best example because many units likely are able to delete her in one go - and to do that my investment was 280 (20 Sentinels) + 160 (Loreseeker) points, and two spells had to go off (which isn't too difficult because I play Zaitrec and had the Twinstones out - another 30 points). But 13 MW (the 14th wound was a single hit otherwise which went through ...) on whatever from a single unit in the end is pretty rough on the other player. It is a big investment and many armies can do the same thing with units that cost that much points, but as you say it's reliable (once the LRL player gets everything in place), and from afar, which probably feels worse than if a Mawcrusher deleted you, because at least there you might have an opportunity to screen etc. (in reality it might not be that different, it likely does feel different) I'm not opposed to changing the mechanic, but it would mean that they have to totally redesign Lumineth. I'm a bit torn of this - I think it's good for the game that there are armies out that do things differently, like KO and Lumineth. Although, not everyone likes it, and it can pose some problems with certain match-ups. Hopefully they'll have brought most of the other factions up to par once BR is finished. Some of the older factions are definitely missing tools to deal with some of the new stuff newer armies have. I also like that KO and Lumineth are very well done in terms of their lore fitting with how they work in the game. You have the same with certain other armies. On the other hand, relying as much as LRL on MW is also a bit of a trap, if more factions get MW protection (which I'll think is going to happen), there isn't that much left in damage output besides that. Right now it looks great or even OP to some, but this could change fast. Lumineth have strong warscrolls, but you can't really create super units on par with something like Witch Aelves, HGB etc. LRL don't have certain buffs like additional attacks or plus damage, so the overall damage output besides MW is pretty low. But, as a LRL player you have the tools do destroy your opponent's synergies, and if that works out, most of LRL warscrolls are very good for their points. They gave LRL MW as one tool to be able to control your opponent. A fully buffed CoS unit is better than what I can bring, once I manage to kill the synergy parts though (taking out the heroes etc.), and it's just warscroll against warscroll, my units are just plain better overall for their points. But if LRL wouldn't be able to do this from time to time they'd likely would either need more overall damage, even more control options or something else to make them work as GW apparently planned them to. It's would be like taking away most of the mobility from KO. You'd have to seriously re-design the whole army. They still kept the high MW output limited to a few occasions - LRL can only cast one lambent light per turn. LRL don't have many high damage spells, and they are located across three several different lores, etc. I think it'll get better once we have more armies updated, and people get more used to playing against LRL. Ugh that got way too long.
  15. I did that with 5. I don’t know how competitive they are but the Twins are fun. Double caster and from BR 3 they can do nice damage. I also experienced the teleport, in T4. Healed them up to full, and can be super powerful I think in late game, when you can reposition a 20+ damage potential unit to - most often - where you need it, because there is a lot of space. They are fun to play.
  16. I think you can build the one you like the look of and use that one for both. In most cases the generic one is better. Profits from your great nation keywords and you can give her artifacts. As Woolf said though Lyrior can generate many CP, so if that’s important for you, you could look into him.
  17. What Siegfried said above : ), just to add, it’s still an it hard to say how things work out with all the new units, As you said the main weakness of the Alarith was that they are slow. But we now have a teleport spell, combine that with Speed of Hysh, and the new Windchargers, Dawnriders or just archers in general and it shouldn’t be that bad anymore. If you want to focus on Alarith, Ymetrica is the way to go. The next buy in that case would be Avalenor, to make your Alarith core. You already have Speed of Light with that and the Dawnriders. So you could look how this works out for you, and then see in which direction you want to go. More Vanari/Scinari or dip into the Wind Temple.
  18. I don’t know, with the new Wind Lore there might be some play in a Alarith/Hurakan list. The Cathallar is good of course, but maybe drop the Spell Portal and if you want an Endless Spell take Twinstones? Especially if you have all the MSU with spells? Maybe would be helpful to explain what your game plain is for this?
  19. No, not as such. The new units have a lore section each which have contain some new information, and then BR Teclis has some new lore parts, but that part in the new Battletome is wholly unchanged (the general lore sections and short stories). If you have the old Battletome and buy BR Teclis you really get all the new stuff. That said, sometimes the little new details we get, could hint at much larger things to come. For example @Siegfried VII noticed this little gem among new Lumineth symbols that they showed:
  20. Why would it have needed more effort by everyone? You’ll likely see why the other’s were somewhere else at that point of time with the ongoing campaign. It could be ended by one faction, because everything hinged on Nagash. It’s not like the Lumineth went into Shyish and conquered Death. The authors made sure that the LRL didn’t even face Nagash’s best military commander. The Lumineth just did enough to bait Nagash which worked, and why shouldn’t they be able to do this mostly alone? Then in the same way Nagash prepared a ritual which started everything, Teclis did to end it. Nagash managed to do that all by himself too. In addition, although these are only small parts in the book, but Alarielle’s and KO assistance was crucial. They could have expanded on that more of course, but likely both will get their own major appearances down the road. At least Alarielle seems almost a given. I think you could make similar arguments about BR Morathi - how come Malerion doesn’t play any role there? Why didn’t any of the other aelf gods feel what’s going on and try to stop her? Why didn’t Alarielle get involved more? Why didn’t Sigmar ask for help to regain Anvilgard? Likely we will have the same issues in forthcoming releases too, where relevant factions won’t show up. They want to showcase a few armies in each of these books, so the story focuses on them. Because in the end the stores are only told around models and rule updates. I don’t mean it in the sense that you are wrong or that they couldn’t have it written differently, I just don’t see a big difference in terms of quality between the two books we have seen so far. In the end, it was just like if feared at the start of the thread - if they make a duel between two gods there will always be a lot of dissatisfaction around the result (either the losing side, or that it didn’t matter in the end). I’ve read through the whole thing twice now, and I think there is a lot of cool stuff inside it. The discussions between the gods are done very well, and leave a lot open to interpretation. Both Lumineth and OBR did a lot of cool stuff in there, Alarielle had a great moment, normal people like the KO had a big impact on the outcome, and so on. Alone from the topic I don’t think this will be the best book in the Broken Realms, but I don’t think there is such a big difference to what we have seen in BR Morathi and likely what’s to come.
  21. Yeah me too. I think originally they had more on their warscroll, which was toned down in the end. So I don’t think they’ll get it, but I sent in for an FAQ, along with caster question. Hopefully they’ll get it, and all perfect strikes count as 6s of course 😁
  22. Have you used AoS Reminders? Super helpful. In addition I use all kind of markers, both from the army box as well as from the Warscroll Cards. The rest is just playing. We have a lot of options now, what do you like? The game isn’t really balanced for 1,000 points though. Eltharion is great in 1,000 points lists, as well as Avalenor for example.
  23. It does communicate that this went pretty well for you : ). And you can see where the troops go. You can understand the flow of the battle. Waiting for the narrative part! It might even be good to make a dedicated battle report thread.
  24. The flash of light can mean anything, as well as his steed diving after him. I’m convinced we’ll see Arkhan back. The book says the 10 Paradises are free from Arkhan forever, not the Realms : )
