  1. Funny thing, I used the Shadowstalkers I had lying around (bought them to use as allies for my SCE but then lost that possibility) to make Wardancers and a Spellsinger/Spellweaver for my Wood Elves
  2. considering (if memory serves) the vast majority of people who buy GW minis literally never or veeeery rarely play with them, I am not even sure that would have a particularly noticeable impact
  3. I think I like this format alot (including using the AoS-size tables). 1500 seems more palatable in terms of game length for my present availability of free time. I'll try to push it to my clubmates saying that "it's official"
  4. funnily, me switching to the secretary desk was precisely due to the arrival of my daughter: 1) because I lost my office/hobby room which became her bedroom (the little thief!), 2) because the secretary desk can be locked but I can see how trying to paint with the cats jumping on the table might be a real challenge
  5. same, we're playing a couple of 500-750 pts games of tOW to learn the rules next weekend and we're using the restrictions as if we were playing at 1000pts (but still respect the percentages)
  6. tbh I would take first week discussions about balance of a completely new edition/game with 16 completely new battletomes all dropping at the same time with a pinch of salt
  7. Don't you need to be in a formation "that is wider than it is deep" in order to be in "Combat order" and get the CR bonus? (p.101)
  8. I put in "daily" cause it's closer to that than to "weekly", but of course it changes and it's almost always short sessions (10-30mins) so what helps is to have a painting space well organised and ready to go (I have a secretary desk in the living room and I leave there my ongoing project, so it's basically: open, sit down, get painting, put down the stuff, close, run to catch the train)
  9. aaand "This week's Rumour Engine is cloaked in mystery"
  10. Let's double down on the arbitrary categorisation and let's have one GOOD and one EVIL forum!
  11. After a quick skim (so, hot take, pinch of salt and all that) they look a really developed product, some of them (Daemons) are in fact longer in sheer number of pages than army lists in Forces of Fantasy/Ravening Hordes. It surely doesn't feel like a "legended" situation -of course, only time will tell.
  12. this part at the end genuinely made me laugh : "the rules are intended for people who already have armies in their collection" Considering that you can right now buy most of these armies from the actual GW store, as opposed to (most of) the "core" ones
  13. I would say already now (other than if you play exclusively in a GW store) most games are played on tables which do not use GW terrain kits. They tend to be too expensive and not really good in terms of gaming: no pieces to block line of sight, no flat areas where units can stand on etc. So, in a way GW is already letting 3d parties and the community fill that space, it wouldn't be shocking if they stopped selling it altogher (although I agree it seems unlikely)
  14. I'll accept new SCE foot heroes only if 4 others are merged together/into a unit for each new one. Please, have mercy.
  15. I think he'll just go thunderstrike with a strong gothic vibe à la Ionus. The dracoth will stay, become leaner and meaner, and will be the test for the resculpt of the whole dracothian guard.
  16. Leaving aside the suggestion that people with a different opinion about the game have "brain fog", I just want to point out that people who play "over and over" are a tiny minority and the moment you use them as the yardstick to measure acceptable complexity you can generally justify anything. I would also question the usefulness of a reminder sheet for the problem we're mainly discussing (battle tactics): the problem is not to remember them, as you generally have them in front of you, but a) having to consider them before you hit the table (i.e. at list building) to just have a chance to play the game and b) dynamically choose one depending on the given situation.
  17. In case you want a digital alternative (not yet perfect but getting there) https://old-world-builder.com/
  18. Gargants. They survive the first salvo, they can spread their deployment, and then they just go stand on circles.
  19. those damn competitive players! or rather, it was a half-hearted test, quickly stapled to fill in some pages and abandoned as the direction they wanted for the game was one of "bad" simplification and streamlining. Remember the battles in the sky? wonder if competitive players killed those too
  20. I think a lot of critiques are very fair about the whole OW strategy. That having been said, I think when formulating those one should try to have bit of nuance in light of sold out products and queues in front of WHW. There seems to be a market for it and we should not discount the pull effect of so many community "leaders" (from local to internet level) having fond memories for WHFB (because it was their first miniature game). I was not interested in it at first, but with 6 players in my relatively small club being very excited and ready to play, of course I'll get into it. Again, we should not underestimate the effect of the "old guard" in smaller realities -and these are all people who also play AoS and other systems, not some sort of dusty relics, just to be clear
  21. unclear when they will be published, there was no commitment to have them available on launch day
  22. Digital books are also up for buying https://www.warhammerdigital.com/new-exclusive 12€ for the digital arcane journal is a decent price point, 33€ for each forces book still feels steep if you're only interested in one army
  23. Same. The fact that it didn't work before doesn't mean it couldn't be made to work. With the current approach to balance and items costing points, it's not impossible to change the item cost every 3 months if something shows up too much in competitive lists. On the flip side, you give plenty of cool trinkets to play with for the vast part of the community who just wants to kit up their heroes
