  1. @Double Misfire I checked in liber Chaotica. It is implied she was denied daemonhood by Slaanesh because of a deal he struck with the daemon prince Samael. Dechala refused to stay married to Samael. Even though Dechala was blessed by Slaaenesh in numerous way, she could not reach daemonhood like Samael. I thought Dechala was married to Azazel, but I guess I got things mixed up. The Liber Chaotica does describe all this as stuff of legends and by no way as a fact. I love how the fluff during 6th was written in this way. I also found another piece in the Liber Chaotica that I hadforgotten about. a creature called the 'horned man' is described that enters the dreams of children (and the 'writer' of the Liber Chaotica) to convince them to do bad deeds. This is just how I imagine Thalion to operate in the Age of Sigmar, in his guise of Morh' euz or as a vision of a golden ox, visiting dreams to inspire artists and artisans to create the most beautiful things they possibly can. This way Thalion has numerous ways of controlling his followers, even when they are asleep. Model-wise I have altered the position of the legs to make Thalion appear to be floating. Using the hilt of his spear to keep the model aloft. Now I just need to get me some wings.
  2. @Double Misfire I really like the fluff on Azazel, even though his model is really awfull... Wasn't he also a big part in Dechala's story? I might change the model to make him appear to actually be flying. But I really like the Visarchs armour, so I'd rather reposition his legs. @Old Woden I'm located in the Netherlands, but thanks for the generous offer! I actually think I'll be getting the scourge kit, as I might be doing more conversions in the future using wings. to be continued
  3. Scourge wings seem impossible to get on the bits site Inormally use. I might just get a box just for a pair of wings, as this model is one of te most important chatachters in my army. the current wings are from the bretonnian Pegasus knights. But I agree Scourge wings Probably look better.
  4. So can we talk a bit about the 'blanchitsu' style of painting? I've been looking around and found some nice articles (on Ex Profundis for example) about what it is. And it obviously isn't one single way of painting. I think I'd like to mimic some of the colors John Blanche uses (I heard he never uses blue in his drawings). I'm having fun with the proces of figuring out the color scheme for my with hunter. It may be the first time I don't have a clear idea about how I want the model to look. I've mapped out the base colors on the model. the red armour is my main point of concern. I think I like it, but it may be a bit to much. I'd love to read everyone's thoughts.
  5. Thanks for all the kind words, they're really motivating (even more than 'likes'). If my work is what gets a new player to get into the hobby that would be amazing. @Hagen your stuf always inspires me, so it probably isn't a coincidence that my models have similarities to yours. The technique I used for the marble is actually yours... haha! I used a mix of ushabti bone and white as a base and used thin glazes with lahmian medium and slightly brown tints. after that I lined the spots with a very thin grey line (although I didn't cheat with a technical pencil) The army is coming together nicely, I'm planning on getting to a point where I feel Thalion's story is represented enough. which will allow me to expand the army in any direction I want , but also get into other projects like AoS28. To get to that point, I need to finally create Thalion as Daemon prince. I've been working on a different version for a while, but I wasn't really pleased with the result. But then I saw a conversion done by @Old Woden and I kind of 'borrowed' that idea. He is still work in progress, but I'm looking forward to painting the Visarch armour NMM gold.
  6. just some work in progress on my Mounted Lord of Slaanesh, one of my all time favorite mini's (allthough he is a pain to assemble).
  7. This army of Slaaneshi cultist is shaping up nicely. I'm trying to finish the things I have lying around, so that I can expand it when Slaanesh or elves get an update. But there is always a new project lurking around to take up my time... Like an AoS28 warband. I got asked to do a guest article on a blog, which has helped me set a goal to finish certain units. I'm currently working on the Lord of Slaanesh on daemonic mount. The army currently is a combination of high elves (just thalion and his elven prince bodyguard), Slaaneshi daemons and Dark elves. I think I haven't shown much of the dark elves, so here they are. The dark elves join Thalion during the End times and are led by a male sorcerer. The Cold one knights are based on the most recent kit. I wanted them to look as if they have been on the road for a long time. Tropies are hanging on the reins and luggage tucked behind their saddles and repeater crossbows hanging to the side. I also added small banners to every lance to give them even more movement. I'd love to hear what you think of these.
  8. Really like those pigs, wat better than the original models and the paintjob is spot on, those Browns are very nice.
  9. There probably is something wrong with us. creativity and insanity are two sides of the same coin:P I wouldn't change the color of the gems, the monochrome colour scheme is really cool and the gems shouldn't stand out to much. I really like the flame pattern in black on the hems of his coat. the gold on this model doens't seem to stand out as much as with your previous model. which picture represents the real color better?
  10. @Double Misfire I think you're right about the skull. I wasn't really sure about it, but it is the one thing you picked out that could be improved. I don't want to use to much gems so I'll probably go for a rune. Blue stuff is, well, blue stuff. It's a kind of plastic (I think) that becomes soft after leaving it in hot water for a few minutes. this way you can use it to create a mold of a piece from any kit. you can order it from greenstuffworld. I used it to copy a head from the dark elf corsair kit, bar the hair.
  11. It's been a while since I posted. last time I posted the entire backstory for Thalion and his cult. @Hagen, thanks for the reply, I think you really get what I tried to do with this story. In a way you inspired me to go in this direction when I first proposed the idea for Thalion and his quest for damenonhood. I think Slaanesh would be proud of Thalin. But now he/she isn't around to enjoy all the beautifull things Thalion brought from the world that was... I added one of my favorite units to the army, thanks to 'made to order' I finally own a unit of six mounted daemonettes. Painting them was really fun and pretty quick for a cavalry unit. The mount and the daemonettes share their color scheme, so that really helped. I think the unit looks really cool, they really are full of movement.
  12. allthough I really should work on finishing up some models for my Slaaneshi elves, I also put together two elves (what else) for an Aos28 warband. The 'witch hunter' I'll paint up for the eclipse contest. It really is a lot of fun figuring out a different look for this warband to fit into the AoS aesthetic, while that same look is still evolving. the idea behind the warband is a group of elven militia guarding a realm gate in the district of Nohr. The gate leads to the realm of shadows and sometimes monsters from that realm crawl out. The warband fights these monsters, preventing them from rampaging through the city streets. I remembered that when I was a kid I loved the idea of an elf with a eloborate long rifle. allthough I soon learned elves in wfb didn't use guns, they frowned upon the unreliable and loud weapons of the humans and dwarves, instead relying on their perfect skill with longbows. But this is a new era, where technology is a little more advanced so I finally went and created an elven marksman wit a long rifle. time for some pics! both elves are some pretty elaborate conversions with some green stuff work. I even copied a head for the witch hunter, using blue stuff. Let me know what you think of them.
  13. I think it is insane we were deprived of rumour for what felt like forever and then they drop an entire new army on is, revealing numerous units and characters in one go. And on top two new games are announced. Crazy! The new dwarves have a lot more character than that other army fully encased in armour... the balloon guys, especially the top hat dude, I don't like. The other stuff is pretty great and the ships... damn. All that metal could be hard to paint though. Could get really boring If you don't know how to paint lots of different metal tones. Then again, they might look awesome in color.
  14. some great stuff has been added the last couple of days. I'm always excited to see what people have come up with in this thread. My first two models for an AoS28 are on my table, although I probably should try to finish what I was working on before starting something new:P @Hagen awesome paintjob, the limited palate really works. I'll always be a sucker for white robes I guess... the off white color contrasts enough with the blueish white of the robes to keep it interesting. the chequered pattern really fits with the model, especially on the shield rim. I actually used those same skitarii robes, awesome bits! @Paul G I always love to see someone work on elves. these look fantastic. I wouldn't try to create Malerion himself, but a creature inspired by his look. the crypt flayer kit could be a nice base and maybe use a bloodletter head?
  15. Did someone say 'competition'? Exciting stuff! If and when I (or anyone else for that matter) start a plog, should I put it in the painting/modelling section or in this narratieve section?
  16. Love this guy @Old Woden! I may very well steal this idea
  17. That is one awesome conversion! I'd day bigger shield, he looks more badass that way:)
  18. This thread has quickly become my favorite thread on TGA. To think two weeks ago I didn't realise it existed:D I often think of conversions with a clear idea of which parts to use. But this time I came up with the story first and now I have to figure out how to create the characters. I'm having a great time getting inspired by this thread, but also with lots of concept art on pinterest. I'm currently thinking about creating some elves (surprise!) running a house of pleasure. I love the long coats of the skitarii for them, but it seems parts are hard to get right now. Maybe I should buy a complete box and build that amazing bits box Hagen seems to have. Speaking of the bits box, how do you arrange your bits. Do you keep numerous boxes or split them up. What is your system? I have a decent amount of bits and I think it will get to a point I won't be able to remember every part I have and in which box or bag it is kept...
  19. I'm really excited to join this AoS28 thing. And I realized I already had some models that are perfect as a starting point for a warband. feeling inspired (and having nothing to do during a long trainride) I came up with some fluff for a city (which is a continuation of the story for my elven cult of Slaanesh) and short backstories for two characters. The City of Casand’ora In the realm of light, a palace of jade sits on top of a mountain. Surrounding the palace a sprawling city covers the slopes. Artists, poets and artisans from every realm are drawn to the city, where their craft is held in the highest regards. The city is controlled by the Oneiroi, followers of the golden demi-god by the name of Morh’ euz, giver of dreams, who holds his court in the palace of jade. It is said that even a mediocre artist will rise to great heights if they only venerate the divine lord of the jade palace. Jade district: The district surrounding the palace of Jade houses the wealthiest citizens of the city. Most citizens of wealth are elves, who seem to be favored over the other races by the Oneiroi. The richest families sponsor many artists an artisans who reside in the city. True wealth in the city is not measured by gold or coin, but by the size and splendor of your art collection. District of Or: At the centre of the artisan district stands an enormous statue of an ox with six horns. The golden statue is decorated with intricate patterns and numerous gems and other precious stones. It is believed that the ox visits the dreams of those who offer him enough gold and jewellery. Those visited by the ox experience a steep prise in skill of their craft. Allthough the ox is laden with gold and gems, it is a rare occasion these treasures are stolen. The Sons of the ox guard the statue at all times. They consider it their right to torture and execute thiefs and blasphemers in the most painful way possible The wall: Taking advantage of the higher ground the mountain offers, a giant curtain wall surrounds the city. The warriors guarding the wall are highly skilled warriors clad in exotic and ornamental armor. They are said to have travelled to the city in search of a god now lost and all but forgotten. District of Nohr: Oily dark clouds roll out of a large crevice in the mountainside, a realmgate leading to the realm of shadows. Surrounding the gate are numerous statues of monsters and shadow daemons carved into the rock by the many artisans of the city. The district is known for harbouring shops and establishments where the darker pleasures in life can be found, hidden by a thick black fog that always hangs in the air. the marquis: the man simple known as the marquis is always plotting to increase his own wealth and stature, trying to penetrate the highest circles of wealthy families of the city. Trading the highly sought after ‘wine of dreams’ the marquis is a ruthless man of trade with a very questionable morale. Emeric Sadoul: A seer of little talent, working in the service of the marquis. A frail and sickly boy, Emeric grew up as an orphan on the streets. Trying to survive, the young Emeric offered a stolen necklace to the Ox of Or. When the Ox appeared in his dreams it told the boy he would be gifted with the sight, being able to see into the future, if he would simply remove his eyes.
  20. for those of you who enjoy some fluff: I've written down the story of Thalion. I came up with the story wanting to bring something of the old world into the age of sigmar. This is what drives Thalion, to prove his worth to Slaanesh by saving a piece of the old world that gave Slaanesh so much pleasure and perhaps reach daemonhood... I had a lot of fun letting the story of Thalion coincide with the events of the End time and other pieces of lore. The ending of the story brings me into the Age of Sigmar and gives me enough space to continue building this army but also starting a new project (like AoS28)... enjoy and please let me know what you think. Ever since the time of Aenerion cults of pleasure have existed within elf society. Though seemingly immune to the other three gods of chaos, the dark prince Slaanesh fanned the aesthetic inclinations of the Asur, which resulted in the first formations of the cult of pleasure within Ulthuan. The influence of Slaanesh bored deep into the roots of society, pushing the selfish and artistic nature of elves to extremes. Even though the power of Slaanesh lies not within war and battle, it was the lord of pleasure who birthed the schism in society that led to what the Asur refer to as the sundering. To this day thousands of elves secretly worship the dark prince. The cults of pleasure still thrive both within Naggaroth and Ulthuan. But where the Druchii cults focus on the sensual and sadistic elements of elven nature, the cults of Ulthuan focus more on the emotive responses to artistic, philosophic and culinary excesses. The cult of Ulthuan is considered even more secretive than the Naggarothi cults, as the excessive behavior of elves stands out more in the structured culture of the Asur. The Cult of Ulthuan is controlled by six magi, of which Thalion is considered the most influential. The power of chaos gods does not corrupt the elves like it does humans. It is unknown for elves to suffer mutation but other more beneficial effects can occur. Though easily over two centuries old, Thalion looks like a young elf merely 300 years of age. His youthful appearance combined with his deep insights and military cunning has earned him a powerful position in many a courtroom. The perfect position to grow his influence and extend his grip on Ulthuan in the name of his dark prince During the events known to elves as the Rhana Dandra, Thalion unfolded his last and risky scheme. In his dreams Thalion had seen Slaanesh was conflicted over the unmaking of the world. The dark prince had dined well on its many pleasures and feared that such joys would be lost if the mortal realm ceased to be. Thalion realised the greatest gift he could bestow on his deity was not to lend his power to destroy the world but save a part of it’s splendor. Using his political influence, Thalion enjoyed creating confusion and conflict amongst the armies of Ulthuan. Using the distraction of the war following Malekith’s arrival on the elven continent Thalion raided many cities and palaces, gathering the greatest collection of works of art known to elven culture. Amongst the treasures gathered were the crystals from the flying city of Saphetiton, the former capitol of Saphery that had been destroyed during the creation of the vortex. Thalion knew his actions would attract the attention of the sword masters of Hoeth, agents of the white tower burdened with seeking out followers to the cult of luxury. Hosting a grandiose 66 course dinner at his mansion for his fellow magi and their most trusted followers, Thalion plotted to overtake leadership over every tendril of the cult of pleasure in Ulthuan. After days of revelling in the joys of the best foods and wines in Ulthuan Thalion’s rival magi were tired an sluggish. When a group of swordmasters attacked the mansion they were easily defeated and killed by the agents of the white tower. Only Thalion who had retained himself from eating and drinking to much, survived the attack. The Silver tongued prince convinced Bel-Taror, the loremaster leading the attack, his pursuit of martial prowess and magical knowledge was an aspect of worship to Slaanesh. The confused loremaster turned on his brothers and joined the cult he had so long tried to destroy. In a final gamble Thalion gathered all the forces now at his disposal. An army of Slaanesh worshipping Druchii joining his grand army. Thalion burdened Bel-Taror and his most trusted general, Eurenil, with the command over the army, ordering them to march on the white tower. The tower of Hoeth had remained neutral in the civil war raging on Ulthuan so far. The attack by Thalion’s followers forced the Loremasters to defend the tower in direct combat for the first time, drawing out warriors from all of Saphery to aid in the defence. Thalion had no interest in joining the battle, which he knew could not be won, but instead directed his attentions to the Jade palace. The palace, once the residence of Phoenix king Aethis the Poet, was now all but abandoned. It’s garrison aiding in the defence of the white tower. Thalion deemed it only fitting his collection of art would be stored in the palace that was once considered the central point in the high water mark of elven society. As the war in Ulthuan reached it’s zenith the high loremaster Teclis unbound the Vortex, foolishly seeking to anchor each wind into a champion of his choosing. As Teclis drew the power of Hysh into his staff the vortex finaly collapsed. The creation of the vortex had robbed the crystals of Saphetiton of it’s power and now it’s collapse brought them back to life. It was the final piece in Thalion’s scheme. As tremors started to tear Ulthuan apart, Thalion sought to use the crystals to force the Jade palace into flight. Thalion and his coven of seers and mages had however underestimated the powers they now struggled to control. Soon the first of his mages collapsed, consumed by the magical forces of the crystals. Still Thalion pushed on, knowing that failure would mean every piece of art he had sought out would be lost beneath the waves that were now crashing down on Ulthuan. Magical fire scorched Thalion’s skin, golden armor melted and bones broke as the prince felt his body being torn apart. Finally the crystals burst to life, magical light shining from within the multifaceted stones. The jade palace broke apart from the ground and slowly hovered towards the sky. A being of golden light stood where Thalion had been. Long white robes enveloped his naked form of perfect proportions. Knowing his purpose had been fulfilled, the daemon steered the palace towards the stars. in the Age of Sigmar… In the realm of light, a palace of jade sits on top of a mountain.
  21. @Kramer the recipe is pretty simple. 1. kislev flesh 2. wash with very watered down xereus purple (I don't use regular washes) 3. another layer of kislev flesh, except for the recesses (I like to do this while the purple wash is still slightly wet) 4. higlight with 50/50 kislev flesh and white 5. if necesarry add some slight washes to deep recesses and a dark red watered down for areas like the hands and feet, cheeks (both face and...) elbows and knees. the red accents add realism to the skin. 6. final higlight with 50/50 mix and finally pure white good luck!
  22. Racing after the deamonettes are their mounted sisters, which I got from made to order. I finished the first two of them (just need to add grass on the base). They are a lot of fun to paint. Normally mounted units take me forever, but in this case the mount and rider have the same color scheme.
  23. The main antagonist being a slaanesh sorcereria excellent. I think it is a really cool idea that a Slaaneshi character uses the minions of other Gods to further his goals.
  24. damn, so much amazing stuff in this thread. I've always love the look of inquisitor and inq28 seems like so much fun from a hobby perspective. I'm really excited to see there is a fantasy equivalent of inq28. I'll probably join in on the fun somewhere down the road. I really need to clear some of my backlog before starting a new project. luckily AoS28 means creating small warbands, so if I get into it, it doesn't have to be a big project. I'll be following this thread with great interest!
  25. Thanks again @Hagen. I'm very happy with the banner, might just be the smoothest banner I've ever painted. I saw the Aos28 hashtag on instagram a couple of times. I'm very intrigued and would love to put together a warband (or two), allthough time will be an issue. I really should clear some of my backlog before getting into another project. I do love to convert and come up with backstories, so this is just perfect. Consider the seed planted...
