  1. My experience is, these days, gutbuster is a frustrating army to play. Our effective builds are limited and we suffer from out of date warscrolls. They are great fun when matched against armies of similar "tier", however I struggle against more modern armies. My fat boys have been shelved for many months. Just my two bits! I look forward to a battletome. I've very much missed painting ogor models. Very easy to paint, have great character, and the majority of the kits/bits are very interchangeable.
  2. The mawtribes hunger - prepare for the feast of bones...
  3. "Mawtribes" - I love it. I have high hopes the great maw makes its AoS debut. That was always my favorite aspect of the old Ogre Kingdoms lore. So excited! Make ogors great again!
  4. One of the models in the Iron Golems warband in the WarCry release is called an "Ogor Breacher" (The big guy with metal balls for hands). I was overly excited to see that. I know it's relatively small and insignificant, but when you're a long time gutbuster player, any ogor news is exciting. Haha.
  5. I believe Frostgrave has a box of "serpent-men". Might be an alternative source of bits for a conversion.
  6. Sounds like its time for your old exalted keeper to get overthrown! In true pretenders fashion.
  7. Do any of you guys use the AoS app? I finally broke down and purchased the general's handbook via the app so I could access the slaanesh rules. When I read the slaanesh allegiance rules on the "My Battle" page I'm not given the depravity summoning rules. Was I duped or am I just not looking at it right?
  8. I think you're on the right track. Looks like a fun list. Option 2: I find endless spells to be, for the most part, unreliable at best. Between most brayherd being able to run and charge and the bray-shaman's speed boost I'm not sure cogs is really going to be giving you much. I'd consider simply running this army as a seeker host if you want to play around with pure, unrestrained speed. Just my two cents. If I were to change anything I'd consider adding in a unit of hellstriders. Their debuff is just too clutch and easy to use. Also, don't forget your depraved drove bonuses! On top of all your previously mentioned boons, a large chunk of your army could also be getting reroll's on their charge rolls depending on where your opponent puts their artifacts! If you're going to pay that battalion you should make sure you make those points back.
  9. I wanted to chime in to say I did the exact same thing. A gargant hacker and some favorite ogor bits on on ogor body, viola. You got yourself a tyrant!
  10. Haha, I know right? I hate that! It hurts so much when my buddy blasts one of my heroes off the board with his dirty Tzeentch magic. Man, I don't have an exalted keeper in my collection but I seem to typically net in the 12-18 depravity range. But I usually play 1000pt games mind you.
  11. I count myself very lucky that in our gaming group I'm both the gutbuster and slaanesh guy, ha! I haven't had to deal with my poor ogors fueling the depravity machine! James, you got any experience fighting nighthaunt with ogors? I find nighthaunt to be a bafflingly hard opponent to face. I'm just totally at a loss on how to deal with them. Regards!
  12. What were you thinking of using from Beast of Chaos? I'm toying with the idea of: Great Bray Shaman - A cheap wizard. Devolve seems interesting, however in practice I've found it hard to setup right. Movement buff pairs well with the other units I have in mind. Beastlord - I suspect the entire design goal of the battalion was to maximize your odds of using the beastlord's command ability. Centigors - Seeker level speeds on an even hardier chassis for a cheaper price. Pairs quite nicely with seeker host and Bray-Shaman movement buff. Tuskgor Chariots - I mostly just want some more chariots, ha! This is among the cheapest options for filling out the battalion requirements. Probably not as killy as slaaneshi daemon chariots, but I tend to use my chariots more for gunking up enemy movement anyway. Honorable mention to the Shaggoth. He's a big beefy hero who is able to heal himself. That makes him an alluring option for farming as much depravity as possible. The doombull isnt bad either, but I think he'd be better if I was considering taking more warherd. Lastly, don't disregard the battalions bonus of being one drop and coming with another artifact!
  13. Hey Enoby. I was able to compare the beast of nurgle profiles between the old GA: Chaos battletome and the Maggotkin of Nurgle battletome. Their profiles did change. Their profiles did get better between the two battletomes (+1 wounds, better to hit on a weapon, some buffs to abilities, etc), so there is reason to hope for fiends getting a bit of a rules face-lift!
  14. If it were me, I'd combine the 2x10 daemonettes in one unit of 20. Other than that its pretty close to lists I typically run. I haven't tried the cogs or fiends before and would like to hear how they works for you. Here's how I run things: I'd run the hellstriders close to the fiends or daemon prince and use them to lock down trouble units with stacking -1 to hits. Then try to setup heavy blows with the keeper or daemonettes around your hellstrider tarpit. The Masque I like to just suicide out there and try to make her as annoying as possible. She'll usually get targeted and she often stands her ground against units much more her point value. Happy Hunting!
  15. It looks so beautiful. The thought of both assembling and painting that many Exalted Chariots makes me shiver. I have sort of this dream to make my own combined daemon/mortal chariot/cavalry based seeker host. I think that would be a fun, fluffy way to get some Slaves to Darkness models into my collection. I kind of want to see what kind of offerings this rumored Darkoath release might have though. In that same vein, I was really excited to get some Slaanesh marked beastmen. But the more I look into it the less sure I am about it. I don't know if anyone has looked into that Slaanesh battalion the Beast of Chaos battletome presents, but based on the what I've read it doesn't look like that battalion could legally be included in a Slaanesh allegiance army. If I understand correctly, it is only a valid battalion in a Beast of Chaos or Grand Alliance Chaos army. Unless I can buy the entire thing with allied points, which I don't think I can. Outside of Slaanesh allegiance bonuses, a mark of Slaanesh does nothing for you unless you are either a Slaanesh mortal or a Slaanesh daemon. The beasts of chaos are neither. So can anyone illuminate me? I was hoping the beast of chaos battletome FAQ would come out and clarify my understanding.
  16. Does anyone have experience running a more chariot heavy army? I've always liked the idea for its novelty but I'm not sure I see it working well from a gaming standpoint.
  17. Morning fellow Gutbusters. I played three games in the last two weeks. Two 1000pt games. One against Nurgle Mortals and the other against Tzeentch Daemons. No victories this time though. Really starting to feel the pains of that battletome vs non-battletome experience. The last game was a 750pt against Dispossessed. I can happily say I kicked their butt. I even had success with a giant too! I felt I executed my movements and plans as well as I could hope in both games! It might be an uphill battle some of the time, but my gutbuster games are usually pretty rewarding. (I tell myself it makes me a better player to play an older army lol). Tell me about your recent successes!
  18. Personally, I wish they would take the enrapturing banner debuff off of hellstriders and replace the fiends soporific musk with that -1 to hit aura rule. Hellstriders already have a cool and unique mechanic with their soul hunters rule. But I've never once built an army to take advantage of it because the basic utility of the enrapturing banner is just too good. I find I usually just make a minimal investment in a 5-man hellstrider unit and they just kind of piddle around behind the rest of my units every game. Sorry for the jumbled thoughts, I have a love-hate relationship with my hellstriders, haha! Looking back on it, the reason I never use Hellstriders very offensively was because I guess I thought that you needed to choose between an Icon of Excess or the Enrapturing Banner (a no brainer choice). But re-reading the warscroll maybe you can have both? I dont like old warscrolls like this. My gutbusters are littered with wording loopholes like this. Makes me feel cheesy for taking multiple banners. Anyone ever run big hellstrider units with the intention of playing off their Soul Hunters rule? Tell me about it!
  19. And people thought Slaanesh would get toned out for not being child friendly. Behold the full on bondage fiends, lol. I cant decide how much I like it, but its a vast improvement over its predecessor.
  20. I think a big unit of gors sounds pretty great. That's a relatively cheap mass of 4+ save wounds. Sure some rend is going to hurt them, but that's going to hurt ungors even more. Gors should make a perfectly fine rock to build an army around! If nothing else, give them a spin before you start filing horns off. Ha!
  21. I've been brainstorming myself. Assuming we are good to ally in the Depraved Drove battalion with a Slaanesh Allegiance army, I'm thinking of building up a foundation of the following: Great Bray-Shaman 3x5 Centigors I think the entire package comes in under 500pts. I like the shaman as a cheap wizard option. I think his Devolve spell has all sorts of tactical options. Lastly, I think Centigors are the ticket for allying with slaanesh. As fast as seekers. They can run and charge. Respectable survivability for the points. If used with the Depraved Droves you're getting something like rerolling charges, to hits, and to wounds for charging an enemy hero wielding an artefact. Not to mention I can now bring the vice of alcoholism to my calvacade! Now if I was going to make a slaanesh themed Beasts of Chaos allegiance list, I'd use the above as well as bring in the Doombull/Bullgors (I love their theme/rules). The best I could come up with is using that spooky greatfray allegiance that lets warherd/thunderscorn ambush as if they had the brayherd keyword. If I understand everything correctly that's bullgors popping up behind enemy lines that are potentially rerolling charges against an enemy hero with an artifact! Bring on the hurt! Im not super impressed with the Depraved Drove rules, but I'm willing to play around with it in the name of the Dark Prince! Happy Hunting!
  22. Those look lovely James. Good job! Keep representing those fat boys! How have you found those endless spells doing? I keep finding that they are almost more trouble than their worth...if I get them on the table at all. I really want the Gnashing Jaws to be my great maw embodied on the table, but I'm too afraid of it coming back at me and hammering my own bravery!
  23. Has anyone had the opportunity to battle some nighthaunts? I played my buddy last night at it was so one sided in his favor it just wasnt very fun. Anyone have some general tactics to use against this army I could try out? They are just so bloody resilient and hit so hard I'm at a loss as to what I am doing wrong. I had: 1 Keeper of Secrets, 1 Herald on Foot, 1 Herald on Seeker Chariot, 2x20 Daemonettes, 5 Hellstriders, and 1 Hellflayer He had: 1 Knight of Shrouds on Nightmare, 1 Guardian of Souls, 2 Chainghasts, 2x10 Bladegheist Revenants, 20ish Chainrasps, and the shroudguard battalion We played Take and Hold but did it wrong and just sort of started brawling. But turn 3 I got a coordinated charge of all 40 daemonettes and my keeper into a unit of bladegheists and his knight of shrouds. I even popped the Icon of Infinite Excess. But it wasn't excessive enough. I killed the knight, but not quite all the bladegheists. Then in his turn he casts some spell that brings the entire bladegheist unit back from the dead! After that he sort of just started piling on from all sides after rolling over the chariots. It was brutal. Overall I didnt think I rolled particularly poorly or misplayed myself tactically. And while his list has all sorts of synergy, I felt like what he brought was just typical run of the mill nighthaunt stuff! If anyone has some insight into what I can do to be more competitive against the ghosties I'd appreciate it!
