Eldercaveman
What would you guys nominate as the hardest hitting units we have at our disposal across all chaos books. Mostly interested in sub 300 point units and non special characters to be used for a hard hitting summoning unit.
Arkiham
Just the bloodthirster really Maybe soul grinder
Eldercaveman
Is that really all the hard hitting units we fan summon? Nothing like plague drones or skull crushers?
Arkiham
they hit terribly weakly, slightly tanky but about it
DarkBlack
I would argue that something shooty is best, so you don't need to get a 9" charge to deal damage.
Wotyn
30 Bloodletters maybe

DarkBlack
13 minutes ago, Eldercaveman said: Examples? I only play Tzeentch, so not sure what the other gods can bring. Soul grinders can do shooting damage, tank and charge so a good choice. Flamers can do decent damage, against low armour targets. LoC can cast some decent mortal wound spells, but it's a bit expensive to get out of of a summoning pool and is hard to summon. I think getting a good number to take as reserves is a better way of thinking. 280 points for a grinder can also be a daemon prince and a herald; a burning chariot and an exalted flamer or 2 units of pink horrors or screamers. Which gives you many options, so you can pick the best one for the situation. Edit: What makes summoning useful (in matched play) is that it gives you options with regard to unit selection and placement. A soul grinder might do the most damage on average (have not run the numbers, just an example), but flamers have a range of 35" when summoned (18" summoning range, 1" base and 18" weapon range, ditto herald and damage spells), putting a unit of horrors on an unguarded objective can win a game (or the threat thereof can cause units to hang back) and a deamon prince charging (with destiny) the right thing at the right time. All of the are situational, but you can wait for the situation to chose it.
RoloMcFury
The Bloodthirster with the whip seems like a solid choice, because its shooting attack can pull the target closer, making a melee charge out of summon much more possible.
RuneBrush
Summoning wise, I'd say Bloodletters too, but only if you're also running a Bloodsecrator or similar to increase the number of attacks they do.
Furious
I'd go for 30 bloodletters. Buff them with another +1 to hit and hope that they get their rampaging destruction roll, they could be doing auto mortal wounds on a 3+ hit roll.
sal4m4nd3r
The thing is... you cant summon 30 bloodletters. Only 10 with a small chance to place 20.
Furious
Sure, if you're going by the "rules." I forgot about that one. Yeah, 10 Bloodletters would be a waste.
