MightyQwan
I have decided to organize I've a league here in Ottawa. I am a veteran gamer who is new AoS and have fallen head over heels for every aspect of the game. I chose a slow grow format for the league starting at 600 pts encourage new players to join and vets to begin need factions. This progress log will be my way of keeping track of my own progress in this campaign as I start my Hoarfrost Raiders. My hope is that others in the campaign will also join me here to post their progress. I received my Iron jaws start collecting box last week and started prepping the bases last night. So here are the first picture of my army's progress. I have assembkes bases using cork and cat liter. These will be just rocks with tuft and snow added at the end. I have covered them in a second layer of white glue to seal the cork and make sure the cat litter does not fall off. Tomorrow i will put the last coat of glue and start assembky. It is not much to look at but you have to start somewhere.

Lysandestolpe
What color will you paint the bases? and what color tuft?
MightyQwan
Bases are complete. I will add a few tufts some static grass and some snow FX in the end since this will be part of a mixed destruction army and the Everwintwr obviously will dust everything in a thing coat of snow. MightyQwan
Done assembly and priming of my Start collecting box. Here is WIP of the test model.
MightyQwan
Most of my Start Collecting box has skin and first level of highlights on the armor. They are now ready to be glued to the bases. Only one week left until the slow grow league begins and there is still a lot of work to get my army to a playable level I still have the 3 Gore Gruntas and the Megaboss to get started and glued to a base. Double Misfire
I love the old school yellowy effect on the orc skin. What colours did you use?

It's Deerwood green, followed by a biel-Tan wash then shading with Elysian green and a final highlight of reikland flesh. It's the recipe Duncan uses for Orruk flesh on Warhammer TV. Double Misfire
Nice thanks, I'll have to check the video out.
TerrorPenguin
That Ork skin looks great, also might have to pick up some cat litter! Can I ask, how many points are you adding each month for your league? Started one here as well adding 150pts a month but not sure if it should be a bit more... MightyQwan
We are starting at 600 pts so you could get a full start collecting box and a battalion if you wanted. We then move up 250 pts per month for 4 months.
MightyQwan
Been a buy two week so have not had time to post an update but I have gotten a lot done. First I wanted to do black armor since I love the look and I have never done a black army. It is a challenge and I decided to go with a simple scheme. First a highlight with Eshin grey then a second Highlight with Administratum grey. It is a long progress but look pretty good. Unfortunately with the light you do not really see all the highlights. Second my Gore Gruntas are coming along nicely. The fur is complete, the rider has skin and his armor is complete. The next step will be to do the flesh and the pig's armor. I plan on doing the pigs armor a dark red because it obviously will be faster and therefore succeed their charges more often. Finally I got my Megaboss. Big Boss Ironteef has skin now as well as complete armor. This week I hope to focus on the Gore Grunta's flesh and it time permits also start on their armor plates. MightyQwan
This was a busy week and I have an AoS escalation campaign starting this weekend so instead of continuing I had to astumble a squad of Ard Boys to complete the army i am bringing. next week I'll be back on the horse and should get the silvers done on the Start collecting box. MightyQwan
It was getting hard to motivate myself to keep going when I was doing batches of 15 models, felt like I was getting nowhere. I am now going to complete 5 models at a time and so far it's much better. Boss Ironteef is coming a long nicely. a couple more coats of wash on the bones and some small details work and he is done. And what is a Boss without boys! I have almost completed 4 of them. only have pants left, some small details work and weathering and they are done. I have done more in one week than I have in a long time, not really but it feels like it. I cannot wait to get these on the table Monday because painted models play better! alasdair
Great stuff! They are strikingly similar to my own Ironjawz scheme actually. I am a fan of the bases too. Keep it up!
Soulsmith
Looking great All I would say is try a nuln wash oil, sometimes your edge highlights look a bit strong. The wash should tie the colours together. Also I agree, I prefer small batches too, or I batch paint to a point then finish each miniature off. MightyQwan
@Soulsmith so you mean a wash on the blacks or the reds?@alasdair I was going for the Asheater Warclan scheme but after looking at@Dez stuff on the destruction forum I decided to do more red rather than red and white. Dez
Looking good! I think 5 at a time is the way to go. I did base paint mine all at once, and then I went through 5 at a time and did the refs and details. I think I'm going to work just a little gray in too, just so the red doesn't look as flat.its funny how many different layering techniques I used just to find I think they are still too flat haha. Routasydän
Nice to see Orruks with the same black n red colourscheme as Im going for, great work.
MightyQwan
Finally finished the first 5 Orruks in my Ironjaws army. Boss Ironteef is my favorite model to date. He was an absolute pleasure to paint. On the Ard Boyz I added some kitchen string that I cut into bits and added to Blood for the Blood God to give the the look of mangled flesh and hair caught in the weapons. I am very happy with how it turned out and how the color scheme looks overall I am very excited to move on to the Warchanter and 4 more Ard Boys. MightyQwan
Well it's been a hectic few weeks so I have not hobbied much. the last 3 weeks have seen me almost complete my Warchanter anyway and six more Ard Boyz. All that remains is the leather pants aND eyes on the uncovered heads. I hope to get that done tomorrow so I can start work on my Gore Gruntas
MightyQwan
I have been playing more games recently. It has been a lot of of fun getting my army out there and they seem better now that many of them army are painted. It is, however, a double edged sword as my hobby time to paint has been reduced to an hour or two per week. That being said, I am quite happy with my progress this week. Three little piggies went to the market to burn, pillage and maim! Managed to get the skin painted and the base coat of red (cause red iz fast and!). Next week my.my.life work evening 4 days so I hope to get a game in and 3 good days of painting. hopefully I will finish the reds and start the silvers
BasetheRuin
That's some lovely looking stuff! Your use of contrasting colours makes these units very pretty.
MightyQwan
So Gore Gruntas are almost done. This week I was able to complete the reds and apply the metal base coat. Next week my plan is to complete the metals, paint on the leather and the bones.
