This looks amazing! NMM work is lush!
Swirly lines are very easy- I just have to make sure the paint is a decent balance of watered down so it flows easily but not so much that the line is too faint to see. I might mix it up on the shields- your eye on the shield is beautiful. I was looking at the battletome for some inspiration- p26/27 has some cool inspiration. I'm planning on tattooing my acolytes similar to the dudes head shown on those pages.

Us tzeentchian cultists can't use our real name for fear of being discovered, so we use this complex and inscrutable system of alternative names to maintain our secrecy.

Awesome work everyone. Been building a lot of 40k recently as I am liking what they're changing. I have begun the Ironbreakers but 30 will be the most I've batch painted in sometime so I'll need to stay consistent to get them done (with my usual distractions being the biggest threat)
Also to the person doing Tzeentch in the Realm of Life please convert up a Modern Aekold Helbrass!
This sounds like a great idea! Need to find some suitable models to kitbash...

That’s the official title right?
As far as I know. I'll keep calling it that until i hear different.

Bases arrived! They're great, nice details.
Basecoated and some basic shading on the tzeentch WHOOP swoosh thing.

Ok- first model! Magister on Disc of Tzeentch! Doing a few sub-assemblies as I really want to see how i do with a super-colourful, mega-blended, detailed character model, and getting clear access to the armour panels and cloak will be important. I need to figure out how to mount the staff and sword when im painting them- hopefully some white tac will be ok and not stick to the paint too much.
Also have this chrome pen i got a while ago and wanted to use for a tzeentch inspired base for Archaon, but still haven't got to that model yet. It really is liquid chrome- super reflective and really easy to draw on a surface. I tried it on a base and it works really well! Not sure if I'll use it on this model, but might see if it work on something else to make a mirror-reflective surface.

Definitely an AMAZING centerpiece. Definitely save it for the end. Personally, while it DOES look daunting, it also looks like it has a LOT of good drybrushing spots. That entire backpiece could be an easy prime dark, highlight in a metal or something of your choice, and maybe even tint with a wash/contrast. You can have blue shimmering metal with shadowy recesses. Or Green to highlight the Realm of Life.
I do love having "weird" Realm choices for armies. Like, Realm of Life has obvious stuff in Nurgle and Sylvaneth, but Tzeentch has some cool, weird choices for that. Then you can get SUPER wonky with tech people like Kharadron or the big WTF with a Death army from Life. lol
Sadly, my store's stock got hit harder than I thought during lockdown. Some dude came in the other day and ordered all the Start Collecting off the shelf! REALLY curious what in the world HE was building.... Anyways, so while I will have a project set by June 1st (OR SO HELP ME! Grr...) but I might not have models ready by then. Should be easy enough to order, but time. GUESS WE SHALL SEE!I mostly chose Realm of Life because it works with my Cities army- Hysia is their city! But also there's some interesting themes of abundant life and change/mutations.
The dude taking all the SC seems to think there's a scarcity of those, but GW just reopened their online store so not sure he's going to be able to profit off those anywhere.

@hughwyeth nice! Will you be building into the ‘summon lord of change’ subfactuon as well?
I will be! I love this model from Creature Caster - https://creaturecaster.com/uk/product/queen-of-malifica/ but i'm pretty daunted by it. I want to use it as a Lord of Change, but i feel a GW plastic one would just be a lot less stress!

Yeah, fortunately my FLGS was able to deliver me some spray paint, so I should be able to get everything primed on saturday, and will see where I got from there. I already have a merc company of a Darkoath warqueen and some marauders painted up, so I'll use them a basis. This expansion is mainly warcry figures, who look amazing in isolation, but are going to be so fiddly to paint!
True- they're lovely models but playing them in S2D means you will usually have a lot!

I'll be assembling my first model this weekend and have decided on a story for my Tzeentch force. Inspired by City of Secrets, the idea of a secret Tzeentch arcanite cult in a city than suddenly springs forth and assaults the city from within is really appealing. Along with the different cults in the battletome, I had a simple background story to inspire me. I've got all the bases I need from Secret Weapon - http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=79_30_106, and they should be arriving soon.
In the Sigmarite city of Hysia in the realm of Life, a secret Arcanite Cult has been steadily growing, recruiting from the fringes of the city's famous Colleges of Magic. With many recruits having been blessed with transformations into Tzaangor, the cult is now ready to reveal itself and step out of the shadows. Their ultimate goal is to summon a Lord of Change and overthrow the Sigmarite rulers to found a new foothold for Tzeentch in the Realm of Life.

Having finished a bit painting project, I've switched back to building, and after a successful weekend now have a barbarian horde sat on my table and awaiting some paint.
The most daunting stage of any paint project!

From henceforth, painting workload shall be measured in pandemics. Personally, i have 1.3 pandemics worth of painting to do.

What sort of scheme are you going for? One of the cults or something left field?
There’s something about really pushing the quality on an elite army that just can’t be matched by hordes. I suppose it’s probably seeing a bit of progress even if you’ve just spent hours on one tiny detail.
I have no idea yet! I was thinking I would theme it as the city of Excelsis to copy the events of City of Secrets, so I'll probably look to find some really nice resin bases with medieval style streets on them- something like these secret weapons ones - http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=79_30_106.
I want all the tzaangor feathers to be super bright though. And maybe try my hand at some freehand tatoos on the Acolytes.
Agree about elite armies- this'll be the first army I don't speed paint. Other armies I've spent time on heros, but not on big units, so it should be interesting!

I really like the Arcanite Tzeentch models, got a bare bones 2k army of them already. Enjoy painting all that gold trim though!
I’m up in Scotland so not a million miles away from London, so who knows, there might be a chance of a game or two eventually!
They're my favourite tzeentch models by far! The only reason I chose them really. Going to try to push the quality on these- nice to not have to paint 100 models for a 2k force, as I've done for FEC, Nurgle and Cities!

So I'll be building around 1,000pts of Tzeentch. I have the Aether War stuff and these three boxes-
So in total I have-
Tzaangor Shaman
Magister on Disc of Tzeentch
3x Skyfires
3x Enlightened
10x Kairic Acolytes
10x Kairic Acolytes
10x Tzaangors. If any of you are in London or can make it down to London, it would be cool to have a game at Bad Moon Cafe with our new armies!

So @Kramer, @flamingwalnut, @Kamose, @Maxi99 want to join this Tale of X Warlords? I suggest 1st June start and we have our own thread?
Anyone else is welcome to join- I guess it's a way for us to spam our progress pics for feedback without cloggin up this main thread. I'd still plan to post to this thread with my other 43 painting projects. We can have some general goals to help motivation. Anyone else interested or have feedback?

That's the way to do it! I find getting paint on a brush and doing anything, even small, builds decent progress!
