  1. There isn't anything I'd find satisfying personally, this army is expensive to get into unfortunately. Took me 3 years to get to a 2k list I feel happy with at an acceptable spending rate. I also did some trading and such. I'd suggest trying to find lots on Ebay or some other such site. Reddits miniswap can also be helpful.
  2. A game with thick, sculpted coins as models (still in units) would be kinda nice, especially if the stats were in a book or cards and not on the models. Could carry an army in a poker set. I'd play that if it had decent rules and a good story (and slightly sloped sides to make them easy to lift off the board).
  3. Jeez, I didn't even think of that! I'd say definitely not then- that's the entire spiciness of Vostarg, unless you run someone else as General, I usually use my Battlesmith so they footies stay in the bubble.
  4. I'm not sure you do? He's keyworded as an Auric Runefather so it should still count, no? As far as my take on it, I fancy the Kinband but don't see using the rest. My question: can you mix a reg forge brethren with a Vorstag Kinband?
  5. Seconded on magnetizing. Runesons are best in pairs, runefather hits like a truck, and runesmiter makes a durable caster (my preferred option for the list I run).
  6. I've got lots of kitbashed KO stuff in my army, so I don't want to pick up any as allies and cause confusion. Do you all think the scroll re-writes in CoS will bring anything more interesting to our allies pool?
  7. Fyreslayers are pretty expensive to get into- but here is the deal. Two paths diverge in the land of Fyreslayers. The current spam lists are basically 45-65 Hearthguard Berserkers, a Runefather, Battlesmith, and Runemaster running the Lords of the Lodge battalion. If you decide to max out the Hearthguard you won't need any Vulkites, so don't bother with Start collecting boxes. This creates 2-3 basically invincible blocks of infantry that just slowly roll across the field and dish out solid attacks in droves, one of which strikes first and twice for a measly command point. That said, I personally find having so limiting a collection too limiting, and would suggest starting with a Start Collecting, a Battlesmith, and 2 Boxes of Hearthguard Berserkers/Auric Hearthguard. (Going to run you about 215 USD before book and forge) If you are a magnetizing-capable individual I highly suggest doing so for the Magmadroth -Runesons on Magmadroths are most useful in pairs, so if you want to take advantage of their re-roll to attacks I suggest just starting with 2 Start Collectings as you're building your way to a great Warrior Kinband list. -I most often find myself using the Runesmiter on Magmadroth as I like to have to extra prayer with my mortal wound machine, plus, that builds towards the Forge Brethren battalion, which I personally favor. -If you are going to build towards the Lords of the Lodge list you can't go wrong with the Runefather on Magmadroth, he is the hittiest of the three, but also the priciest and lacks that tasty, tasty, prayer. At this point, if you take my suggestion for a more rounded selection you'd have the following. A hero on Magmadroth (Runeson 240-Runesmiter 260-Runefather 280) Two Heroes on foot (Runefather 100- Runeson 100- Runesmiter 120 but allows deepstrike and has a prayer) A Battlesmith (140) 10 Vulkite Berserkers (160) 2x5 of Auric Hearthguard, Hearthguard Berserkers or one of each (240) (Hearthguard Berserkers are battleline if Runefather is General, Aurics if the Runemaster is general, who you'd have to add to the list of what to buy) (1000-1040 depending on loadout) This gives you a good feel of what the army does, and if you decide to build one of each from the Hearthguard box you will have one unit of all three main things in the army and you can decide where to go from there. Anyone with further questions about the Fyreslayers should post them in the discussion thread over on the Order forum or reach out to me by PM, I'm always happy to field questions about our stunty friends.
  8. More and more i'm finding alot of Meeting Engagement games are about denying objectives to the enemy and trying to get ahead on kills each round, especially if you mind your save bonuses well. I find every time I try to be proactive by the time i get there my back line gets summoned on, and we just dont have the bodies to cover both at 1k, especially with split deployments breaking synergies. What is your strategy for winning Meeting Engagements on a 4" move?
  9. Tom Lyons also said ages ago that "Tomb Kings are coming back", going on to say that his sources told him "an elite, shooting focused, Death faction".
  10. I've been doing 20-30 since I sometimes run forge brethren but i have 20 more coming for a mean Kinband list
  11. @jazman84 Any vulkites ww/in 12 of the runeson get an extra attack. With the run charge and at 2 drops it makes for a fun 1st turn.
  12. It is a matter of style, I like the mags for the speed and mortal wounds, but lots of people play all footies. I always like to have at least one Runesmiter for deep striking or one Magmadroth, but i'm also not super competitive.
  13. Absolutely! Meeting Engagements is a 1k format featured in the latest GHB. What mean is that in both meeting engagements and some battleplans the armies are deployed a minimum of 24" apart, which can be a struggle when it comes to scoring objectives on a 4" base move. Vostarg mitigates this slightly with the 1st turn move but in those scenarios even that is sometimes not enough to make you competitive for objectives. That said, once you get to the objectives it is going to be hard to move you off of them.
  14. Gonna be very crunchy but you're going to struggle with 24" deployments and meeting engagements.
  15. I swear by Vulkites, for instance, my 1k list uses the Vorstag battalions found in White Dwarf and it is a ton of fun. Vorstarg Auric Runeson on Mag, general Runesmiter 3x10 Vulkites (2 picks, 1 double axes) Vorstarg Warrior Kinband Runic Fyrewall 990 pts, 79 wounds, etc. Also, I absolutely love the Grimwrath, i try to work 1 into my lists at 2k because he hits like 30-50 feral hogs.
  16. My club has been doing a slowgrow after an influx of new AoS players and playing 500 points has been surprisingly fun. There are some balance issues but it only really matters in corner cases. I played a 12 model Fyreslayers list against a Khorne Mortals list and we had a blast. We limit summoning to 250pts, play on a 3x3.
  17. Picks or Pair of Handaxes for Vulks, pick your poison for Hearthguard
  18. I'd make your battlesmith your general, the trait is better for a foot hero because the infantry can keep up. Lets you bomb the Magdaddy out if needed. Other than that it is pretty solid.
  19. I think this list has some serious juice, although I agree with Jabber that I'd spread the hearthguard out a bit. 15, 10, 10 is how I'd break it- one squad to stick with the Runefather, one to hold an objective behind the sons, and one with your bigger block (which is also your LoL block obviously). My other suggestion would maybe to join Jabber and I in embracing the Shardfist Pelt, putting that on the Runefather makes him a pretty solid hordebreaker, especially if you add Prayer of Ash and either Coalheart or Ash-Horn to the Battlesmith's aura.
  20. How much are you using endless spells? There are so many casters, splitterz could really get in on that endless spell meta.
  21. That'd be amazing because I think I could win some games with the list, but I dared not to dream.
  22. With the GHB rule saying anything not in there with points doesn't count it is kinda fuzzy. That said, the nastiest list I've ever written uses that Vorstag Warrior Kinband and it is absurd.
  23. Do you all think StD will get rebranded into Darkoath entirely? I find it hard to believe that GW keeps the word "Slaves" as a moniker for one of their armies.
  24. I know it seems counterintuitive but I'd actually split your Hearthguard up also, you're going to struggle with high-objective games, especially against summoning or endless spells. If you break up your units a little you could send 5 Aurics, 10 HGB, and the Grimwrath as their own little spiky task force.
