  1. I don’t like to derail the thread to a “GW is so expensive”, because we all know this is an expensive hobby. But they have arbitrarily raised the price like 2 or 3 times just in last year (besstgrave warbands for example). I know inflation is a thing, they’re not our friends and brexit didn’t help but they’re having a dangerous pattern of increasing the price on every release, making this hobby less and less accesible to new players, which in the end will hurt not only our wallets (remember we’re in a global crisis) but also our hobby communities, I already know about people who will leave or have already left. Sorry for the wall of text. /endrant
  2. The "not so surprising" rise of Kharadrons, the incoming Lumineth Sentinels spam and ranged mortal wounds everywhere, have me worried. No tourneys here right now cause of the situation, but I'm theoryhammering about a list with TONS of wounds. If we can't kill them, maybe we can try to flood the objectives , pray to Nagash, bore them, and then have a little chance of winning. Very basic idea is trying to sit chainrasps on objectives with chars, Dreadblade + Spirit Hosts, and do some scalpel attacks with Grimghasts and Revenants. Without further ado, the list: Allegiance: NighthauntMortal Realm: UlguLeadersDreadblade Harrow (90)- General- Command Trait: Ruler of the Spirit HostsKnight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed (120)- Artefact: Pendant of the Fell WindGuardian of Souls with Nightmare Lantern (130)- Lore of the Underworlds: ShademistSpirit Torment (120)Battleline40 x Chainrasp Horde (280)40 x Chainrasp Horde (280)30 x Grimghast Reapers (420)6 x Spirit Hosts (240)Units20 x Bladegheist Revenants (320)Total: 2000 / 2000Extra Command Points: 0Allies: 0 / 400Wounds: 169 Have somebody tried playing hordehaunts lately? Any experiences with 2 full blocks of 40 Chainrasps? Do you think this will work?
  3. I'm not writing off MSU, I've been playing it, but in this meta, at least where I play, anything with less that 30 wounds will evaporate (ethereal or not) in a turn. Tzeencht flamers and magic spam, salamanders, Slanns dominating magic... mortal wounds and wounds are rainning... And the future looks even worse, Lumineth are coming with ranged mortal wounds spam and strong magic. 20 Grimghast will do good damage, but when only 3 are left in the combat phase, theyll' do nothing sadly 😟 On the possitive side, I like the challenge of winning against odds, playing with our ghosties is learning hardmode AoS.
  4. Well, some random musings after a post-COVID 20 players tourney (using GHB19 rules) and GHB20. + Battlelines scoring extra points in battleplans: Like it, 60-75% of our army are battlelines, and some top armies just have the 3 obligatory battlelines. 40 chainrasps unit more mandatory than ever. + Leaders scoring extra points in battleplans: Nice, none of my armies have less than 4-5 leaders. + New Realms Rules and artefacts : Great, even if we lose the Aetherquartz Brooch, we'll stop seeing Ethereal Amulets and all the other shinies that hurts us more than the brooch helps us. Enemies losing the brooch and having less CP is wonderful too. + Auxiliary Objectives: Awesome. Tourneys here use killing points as tie-breakers, and we're not so killy. That dropped me from 3th to 5th place in last tournament. - Point changes in GHB20: Uninspired, bland and boring, even a 10 points drop on Grimghast (deserved) will help us something. My army is a jaw dropping 20 points cheaper than before. - Competitive Nighthaunt: Nothing new, we're in a dire situation, warscrolls are showing its age, we can compete but we're so dicey. A single bladegheist living a turn saving all against a Maw-Krusha and failing 17 of 20 4+ saves and 15 of these 17 6+ ghosties saves. Both have happened to me. * MSU is death: 40 chainrasps and 30 Grimghast, thats how I start all my lists. Having less than that works great in theory but in practice, they are free points in this meta. * Magic: Just take 1 or 2 mages at most. Don't bother paying for endless spells (even with Reikenor). * Guardian of Souls: My guardian of souls is there just for his +1 wound buff , the lucky Shademist/Mystic Shield and I got the special edition one. He've been more disapointing than helpful, even so, other options are worse, so I'm not dropping him. * Get as much characters as you can: 6+ ghostie save is needed, they also help scoring objectives in new battleplans and singles of the usual suspects are useful (KoS, Spirit Torment...). Even a lowly point filler Cairn Wraith won me a game last tourney. * Most important rule: STICK TO THE BATTLEPLAN: Last tourney I won a Duality of Death game against a sharp Tzeencht flamers spam list. He destroyed all my army at the end of turn 3, I killed like 300 pts. Still I won because I sticked to the battleplan and was so ahead on points.
  5. In lore we are defined as a shock army full of durable ghosts, but in game we are neither. One easy fix would be making Nighthaunt units fight first on the turn they charge and keeping WoT as of now (maybe lowering it to 9+), giving us both an offensive and defensive buff. We also need some improved healing, and giving every NH hero deathly invocations would be a nice start, that way non-buffing heroes will do something.
  6. Well before the inevitable confirmation of disappointment with the FAQ points adjustement, I'll ask some input about a list for a 2k tourney next January. It's not gonna win the event (I'm playing ghosts, with spirit hosts and no special characters) but don't want to get swept. The list: Allegiance: NighthauntMortal Realm: UlguLeadersDreadblade Harrow (90)- General- Trait: Ruler of the Spirit Hosts- Artefact: Midnight Tome - ShademistKnight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed (120)- Artefact: Pendant of the Fell WindGuardian of Souls with Nightmare Lantern (140)- Lore of the Underworlds: Soul CageSpirit Torment (120)Battleline20 x Chainrasp Horde (160)20 x Chainrasp Horde (160)30 x Grimghast Reapers (420)6 x Spirit Hosts (240)Units10 x Bladegheist Revenants (180)10 x Bladegheist Revenants (180)BattalionsShroudguard (110)Endless Spells / Terrain / CPsGeminids of Uhl-Gysh (60)Total: 1980 / 2000Extra Command Points: 1Allies: 0 / 400Wounds: 129 - Experiences with 10 chainrasp units? I'm thinking about splitting 1 of the 20 units into 2 10 chainrasps unit Or would 2 units of 20 be better? - What would you prefer? Geminids and a shot for a triumph (20 spare points) ? Extra command point and triumph (30 spare points? Cogs and no triumph (2000p on the nose)?
  7. HUGE reduction on Maggotkis battalions points and Blight Kings and Lords getting extra hits on unmodified 6.
  8. Flesh Eaters Courts Beastgrave warband with a female ghoul!
  9. Ironjawz Brutes and Bonesplitterz bands? Looks like so in the preview cards! Looks good for greenskins!
  10. @Graywater Any chance of sharing the Nighthaunt list that got 11th? Thanks in advance.
  11. It's sad that as Nighthaunt players, we are hoping that Legion of Grief is competitive so we can play our ghosts with a fair chance of winning, while having a less than a year old battletome and our units working better already in Legions of Nagash.
  12. They can have better rules than us... but nobody can compete with our miniatures, we have the best model range in whole AoS! 😀 About deploying in the Underworlds, what units do you usually leave there?
  13. They have finally clarifed how the Soul Cage spells works, and they errataed it in this article: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/03/21/who-fights-first/ Now it's clear that affected units attacks AFTER all of our units, small buff!
  14. Adding our units to Legions of Nagash is the worst thing that could have happened to the Nighthaunt battletome. I don't mind that Nighthaunt aren't OP or easy, but it's infuriating that our units works way better in an outside battletome. That makes the Nighthaunt allegiance, as cool as it is, a subpar option if you want to play competitively, and worst of all, it has the side effect that nerfs directed at LoN (Nagash and Grimghast Spam lists) will affect directly our army, weakening it. I hope that GW presses the correct key to fix this, but I'm curious of how they'll do it, because pointwise, NH doesn't look that expensive, and making Grimghasts more expensive while decreasing the points of Glaivewraiths won't do it.
  15. Just to clear things up, sorry English is not my native language. In an example of just 4 units fighting in CC ,3 of our friendly units (A,B,C) and only one enemy unit affected by Soul Cage (D), what would be the correct order? 1) A, B, C, D. or 2) A, D, B, C.
  16. I'm sorry for asking again, but didn't get an answer, and don't know what's the correct interpretation of "all other enemy units" on the Soul Cage Spell: 'Soul Cage has a casting value of 6. If successfully cast, pick an enemy unit within 12" of the caster and visible to them. Until the start of your next hero phase, that unit cannot retreat. In addition, until the start of your next hero phase that unit cannot fight in the combat phase unless all other enemy units that are eligible to fight have already done so.' When you use the Soul Cage Spell on an enemy unit, does the affected unit attack last after all the other units (including ALL nighthaunt units) or is just the last one of the enemy units activating? (meaning if we have more units engaged in combat than the enemy, it just affect the order in which they activate, but they still get to fight before ALL our nighthaunt units). Thanks in advance fellow Knights of Shrouds.
  17. The preview is up on WH Community: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/02/08/8th-feb-flesh-eater-courts-preview-endless-spells-and-the-charnel-thronegw-homepage-post-4/ Throne is great, free and with free summoning to boot, but at the cost of getting your king static. Spells seems a bit bland, but they seem to tie Ushoran to old Bretonnia (wall talking about forgotten civilisation, Ushoran getting the Lady's Grail on End Times?).
  18. After reading this whole thread, still don't get a clear answer: Does the affected enemy unit attacks last after ALL the units (both ours and enemies) or that means that the affected unit is the last enemy unit fighting (for example if we have 5 units and they have 3, the affected unit will attack before our units 4 and 5). The spell, for reference: 'Soul Cage has a casting value of 6. If successfully cast, pick an enemy unit within 12" of the caster and visible to them. Until the start of your next hero phase, that unit cannot retreat. In addition, until the start of your next hero phase that unit cannot fight in the combat phase unless all other enemy units that are eligible to fight have already done so.'
  19. Maybe I'm alone on this, but I don't like adding a piece of terrain to EVERY army for the sake of it, moreso when all of them are similar (Buff + summon). I'm completely all in when they fit the thematic of the army btw.
  20. Problem here is that Grimghast are going to get a price hyke because of their use on LoN lists, not in Nighthaunt. It's like if GW nerf Liberators because they are OP on Sylvaneth lists. They deserve to go up in points, but maybe losing the horde discount off is enough. Unluckily I fear that they are going to apply them the Skyfires treatment, and the collateral damage would be great on Nighthaunt armies (who aren't at 70% win like LoN or DoK), while LoN will just substitute them with 300 skeletons and be fine. I just use one unit on my army, but points are so tight that just upping them 1 poing would make my list weaker and illegal, and I don't foresee that many Nighthaunt units that deserve a discount to compensate.
  21. Well there it goes, new Slaanesh fiends revealed! Fast reaction or it was part of Tzeencht's plan?
  22. I've seen a lot of Darrakar's online, but haven't seen yet one played. Have anybody tried the Guardian of Souls with Mortality Glass? Movement spells and messing with enemies units charges is always useful, but I don't know how much. A Guardian of Souls with nightmare lantern is an auto include (healing and +1 to wound) in all my lists, but I'm curious about his brother with the glass. Is he worth it? Would you run the duo?
  23. I'm in the process of finishing my army, but can't find a lot of battle reports of Nighthaunt, so I'm asking for opinions/experiences from some battlefield experienced generals here. We're talking about 2000 pt matched play: - Why nobody plays Dreadblade Harrows? Are they bad? Better options? - Are 20 Grimghast Reapers enough or it's worth it to get the full 30 unit? - Myrnmourn Banshees looks great, but are they worth it in an all comers list? - Are Cogs mandatory on non- Deahtriders lists? - How may heroes are enough in a 2000 pts list? I find 3 too few, but 4 are tricky to get points for. - Are 2-3 wizards/spellcasters enough? I know a lot of these questions are hard to answer in a vacuum, but it will be very helpful to get some ideas about these units and spells. Thanks in advance.
  24. After some brainstorming, I decided to make a battalionless list. Reason is, in my opinion, that the only competitive battalion is Shroudguard and Deathriders and Chainguard are playable. Also, these battalions doesn't lessen dramatically the army drops, so withour further ado, there is my last iteration on 2000 pt battalionless Nighthaunt: Allegiance: Nighthaunt (2000 pts)LeadersKnight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed (140)- General, Ruler of the Spirit Hosts , Midnight Tome (Soul Cage)Dreadblade Harrow (100)Guardian of Souls with Nightmare Lantern (140)- (Shademist)Spirit Torment (120)Battleline40 x Chainrasp Horde (280)20 x Grimghast Reapers (280)5 x Hexwraiths (160)6 x Spirit Hosts (240)Units20 x Bladegheist Revenants (320)12 x Myrmourn Banshees (210)Total: 1990 / 2000Wounds: 141 Some thoughts about the list: - Probably going first almost every game, deepstrike helps to lessen the impact on shooting. - 2 Mages and Banshees for dispelling should be enough magic. - Nice variety of units (not a boring looking army). - Mortal wounds (Spirit hosts, Hexwraiths). - Fast units: Most of the army can at least move 8", deepstrike, Dreadblade Harrow, all good for objective grabbing. - Damage: Bladegheist buffed by Spirit Torment, Grimghast Reapers against hordes, full unit of Banshees (can be buffed with mKos command ability) - Anvils: 40 Chainrasp are hard to delete from an objective. Any glaring weakness you can see? How would you improve it? I'm planning my last buys, would love some opinions on the list.
  25. List looks good, maybe a bit low on units. I'll split a 10 Hexwraith unit into 2 x 5. Sadly, you can't buy an aditional artefact, so you can only have 2 on your list. I'll keep the Midnight Tome on the mKoS and maybe I'll get a Balewind Pendant for additional move or a Slither on one Dreadblade instead of the ring and the blade. By the way, what are the opinions about Grimghast Reapers and specially Myrnmourn Banshees? I'm thinking on making a battalionless list with both units, but don't have experience, neither have seem them played. Are they worth it? Can you share your experiences? I'm specially curious about the Banshees.
