But can you apply it to all the army, or is it a !1 thing per 1000 points" thing?

Just a 1 per 1000, so whilst you probably could force an entire army of them, you'd have to take big units to do so, and probably include things like Giants and Goblins etc. to fill in the gaps.

Honestly, given this news, it wouldn't entirely surprise me if Bonesplitterz are bright back fur a second round of Arcane Journals stem the line. They are relatively new sculpts by WHFB standards.

Wait, let me get this right. So The Old World doesn't have savage orcs... and now neither does Age of Sigmar? What the hell are going to do savage orc only players now?

Not quite. There are only Orcs in TOW, but fur every 1000 points you are playing you can swap their Light Armour for Frenzy, and if you do you can then buy them War Paint and/or Big Stabbas. Similarly fur Boar Boy Mobs, minus Big Stabbas. So whilst the term "Savage Orcs" isn't used explicitly, they are clearly Savage Orcs.

  3. Will post a more detailed response later, but with respect to named characters, are Kemmler and Krell around yet? I've always had a soft spot for the Lich Master and his super powered Wight King.

As for something completely new, how about a lesser known Von Carstein who somehow survived the Vampire Wars? A chance to create a completely new character.

Or if we want to go with a different bloodline my vote would be for a Necrarch or Lahmian. The former could be the prototypical lone necromantic experimenter hiding away in the wilderness, creating necromantic horrors; whilst the latter could be a Lahmian who has enthralled a Border Prince to her will and rules through her puppet.

Also, given we can do whatever we want, is there any reason to restrict ourselves to the limitations of GW's Arcane Journals. We can do more than two armies of infamy, or more than three named characters if we want.

So with BoC being confirmed to be shifted over to Old World, do you think they'll get a decent refresh?

Short term? No. I think they'll get the same sort of treatment we've seen with TOW so far i.e. re-release of old kits plus a handful of resin characters and maybe a new plastic kit.

Longer term? Maybe. I'd be surprised if GW haven't got a bunch of STLs for new BoC sculpts squirrelled away on their computers, and if they think they'll sell then they'll make them.

As for "AoS vs TOW", I hope it doesn't devolve into an "us vs them" situation. They're different design teams in different divisions of GW, different styles of minis, looks like they're not competing. But if it does, I already have my side.

This. So much this. I find myself more interested in TOW these days, but I want AOS players to have their cool stuff and enjoy their game!

More, less effective Steam Tanks having been reverse engineered, and exploded/fallen apart between Leonardo's death and the reign of Karl Franz is something I could take.

As long as all the non Leo Steam Tanks look like this dinky boy:

I'm particular, they should be contractually obliged to be driven by definitely not Bismarck!

There's a batch of rumours doing the rounds via the WHFB discord (and possibly some other places) including that the Empire Arcane Journal armies are Nuln Gunnery School and Middenheim

Colour me unconvinced. If I was going to make safe guesses about what the armies would be, those two would be them. But so far we've seen some fairly unusual stores if infamy (Outcasts and Troll Horde most notably) and I think Middenheim and Nuln are too obvious.

Or perhaps I'm just going for something different. I like Middenheim, but I've always thought the Gunnery school was an uninteresting army idea.

Since I really liked Lords of the Lance (It has its weaknesses)

I was waiting for reviews, but they've been pretty much useless as they are filled with people being angry at female knights, and knights using bows (the former really doesn't bother me, the latter bothers me a tiny bit, but it's the sure if things I can ignore). I have an audible credit, so I'm tempted to pick it up: do you recommend it?

I really hope that they do a MTO of the big hat range of Chaos Dwarves at some point. That's my dream army for sure.

Seems unlikely in the short term given Chaos Dwarfs are a legacy faction (and they are based on the FW range, who were much less in on the big hat thing). Down the line maybe.

  10. @Beliman it has been a long time since I read any of them, but it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out I no longer enjoy them like I did when I was 17.

I had a similar experience with the Eisenhorn series: I absolutely loved them back then (I reread them so many times), but when I tried to read them again recently they just didn't do it for me anymore. It's not Abnett: I really like his Bequin novels, and his Horus Heresy books as are good as you can expect from a series about child soldiers on steroids having a galaxy spanning civil war because their daddies have daddy issues. I just feel like the world has changed since the Eisenhorn books were written, and they don't quite hit anymore.

All I can say is good luck to anyone planning on assembling the ****ing kit!

Also, warning to anyone who buys Doomseekers: do not under any circumstances, look at them once you've assembled them. Their chains will break if you look at them wrong.

Maybe they put it for sale purely for collectors?

That's certainly possible. If that's the case I wholeheartedly approve. Anything that makes it possible for people who want hard to buy minis to get them for non-scalper prices is good as far as I'm concerned. I'd also rather that money goes to support TOW rather than scalper's wallets.

So, why do the Dwarfs have Goblin Hewer when, as far as I am aware, it wasn’t invented yet in the lore?

It's not clear they do is it? It appeared in the video for the preview, but it's not showing in the list of units to be released. Perhaps they included it by accident.

Or perhaps GW just want to reuse the moulds for it and are going to release it with some post hoc justification as to why it exists. I've never liked it, so won't be picking it up regardless.

I assumed it was because they're intending to keep it as an Age of Sigmar model, and they don't have an older sculpt to fall back on for The Old World.

Maybe, but they've not announced that the plastic Iron Breakers and Hammerers are being released for TOW (I assumed they'd bring back the old metal ones) so there's not such an obvious split between the ranges as I had at first thought.

  15. The Warshrine is an odd absence. It's not, as far as I can tell, a Daemonic mount, so the whole "chaos isn't as ascendent so Daemons don't manifest easily" thing doesn't apply, and it's an old WHFB mini.

My theory: they're going to make a new mini for it, so it'll come out with the Chaos release.

I'd love to see Warrior Priests of Myrmidia, and am planning on converting one out of CoS bits. I'm definitely in a minority here, especially after the last two editions of WFRP explicitly said that most gods have Warrior Priests, but I've always felt that Warhammer isn't Dungeons and Dragons, and that priests who's gods' jurisdictions don't explicitly include warfare shouldn't be seen on the battlefield - a priest of Morr is just a guy who conducts funerals, a priest of Verena is just a judge, ect.

I can understand this point of view. Certainly a Priest of Shallya shouldn't be any good at fighting, and shouldn't have any offensive prayers, but I could see them working as a support/healer character. A Priest of Morr could be anti-undead, and a Priest of Taal could definitely be a scouty offensive character. When you get to Verena or Ranald I'll admit it starts to get harder. Manaan too.

  17. I'd absolutely love to see both the Cult of Ulric, Middenheim, and the Knights of the White Wolf fleshed out in the Arcane Journal. I've always really liked them. So a named Grand Master would be cool (or an Army Ulric or Elector Count).

I'd also really like to see some other priests get rules. Priests of Taal, or Morr or whatever. Not named characters obviously, but cool nonetheless.

I assume we won't get Magnus until later (a bit like Kul).

  18. @Double Misfire oh yeah, but my nostalgia is more for the setting than specific characters, and I'd like the writers to be given a chance at creativity. I won't be terribly upset if the Twins are included, but it would be cool to see some new heroes instead.

@Kronos I think they'll hold off on Kul until a later campaign book release. That's where I'd like to see Teclis too: in a great way against chaos campaign release when he came and taught the humans magic (although me being me, I'd prefer Finreir).

I wonder about Dwarfs. Young Thorgrim arms the most obvious, but I feel like if he were getting a mini he'd have been previewed, which makes me less confident.

  19. I'm honestly hoping they don't bring back too many old characters. In particular, I don't want Tyrion and Teclis to be in the High Elf Arcane Journal (if they come back later that's fine). Let's create some cool new characters and let them shine a bit.

As for Dwarfs, I'm a bit disappointed that they are only getting two. I kinda hoped for the White Dwarf to be included in a similar way to the Green Knight (similar idea to them), and then two normal characters.
