  1. You had to ruin it for me huh? 😖 But hey, at least the Lizardmen show a sign of life. So far the Seraphon were pretty much benched as far as the setting goes. I guess they grew bored of standing around all day, roaring occasionally. Actually sooner than I expected given Brexit and Covid shipping issues. But then again, its pre-order.
  2. Given the literal name of "Broken Realms" I'm not counting it out either. Who knows what they'll come up with. But Chamon is still a bit of a puzzle that needs some fleshing out either way. When its all literal "sub-realms", meaning minirealms with their own magical borders, then how "firm" is the Spiral Crux's magical border, which is right in the middle of the realm, where magic is weakest? I don't remember the Core Book mentioning anything about how the sub realms actually work, besides being connected to each other by realm gates and "other ways". I think it would've worked better thematically, if Chamon's continents/shards/islands were basically floating in the air inside the bubble that is Chamon. It would fit especially due to it being the home of the KO. My only lore question then would be: how do shards like the Spiral Crux sustain their oceans if they all flow off the sides? Deepkin gates?
  3. You mean Chamon? Because that's literally what Chamon is like. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but the only map we got of Chamon is the one of the Spiral Crux, which is one of Chamon's sub realms.
  4. Speaking entirely from a thematic perspective, I can't ever agree with this. Undead or Vampire Counts weren't "boring" just because they had Ghouls. It's literally an integral part of the Vampire and Undead theme. Turning Ghouls into their own army didn't make neither better. In fact, most of the splintered armies that are based on a single unit struggle to actually develop an identity on their own. Fyreslayers are notoriously unpopular because Slayers really worked well as part as a Dwarf army, but not on their own, despite the reworked thematic(which turns them into mercenaries - with a Slayer visual), and Ghouls are still just Ghouls. Of course GW tried their best to write in as many "unique" details as they possibly can. But admittedly, it ain't really working to help turn a single unit into a whole army. Sylvaneth really got the longer end of the stick here, but even they don't work for me, as I think Woodelves without the Elves is just wood and not interesting to me. Unless any of these get the Tomb Kings treatment, they'll be just what they are: a flawed attempt to turn a single unit into its own army.
  5. PETA also publicly slammed Animal Crossing, a game about living with friendly creatures on an island, because it features fishing and bug catching. Make no mistake, PETA really is that detached from reality. One of their beliefs is that no human should own animals of any kind, and they rather freeze their "rescued" animals to death, than giving them to shelters and sanctuaries for above mentioned reason, if they can't release them into the wild. They also are against hunting in general, believing that we should just endure any imbalance and damage to natural reserves, or even the extinction of animal species due a surplus or rapid multiplication of invasive species, amongst many other stupid things. If its stupid and signed by PETA, its probably real. Pure genius.
  6. I don't find it so strange, given the issues GW has with shipping due to Brexit and Covid. They're probably pushing saying something definite about a release schedule, until they can be sure that they don't have to redact their statement 48hrs later. I mean you know how it is with this stuff during Covid. One day this, the next day that. And given how many LGS are sitting waiting for orders they made months ago, they don't want to ****** them off further either, by promising major releases they can't commit to. In totally unrelated matters, I really could do with a Cursed City release date though.
  7. I like all of that as I do have a soft spot for low-key characters and simple designs. But I'm still not really seeing him in the Final Boss role. And I still think the hat is the main reason. But I guess the fluff will do a lot in this regard. As looks are only half of what makes a character. Patiently awaiting Werner's Cursed City novel.
  8. Finished Gloomspite. And I did not like it very much. It's probably the most transparent army advertisement I've read since some Space Marine novels. It wasn't even an honest attempt at writing a novel set in the mortal realms. The main character was the destruction brought by the Bad Moon, the chaos unfolding under its light, the city of Draconium turning into a giant mushroom colony, and its people being slaughtered and harvested. Basically just Battletome fluff text. But point by point: The novel has only two parts. It stretches what should only be the very first act, "the set up", in which weird things happen around town (that nobody ever learns anything useful about...), out to the entire first half of the book and then dives straight into the climax, which lasts the other half. A middle is non-existent. The main characters are hilariously useless. Literally everything they do fails. They bring a message to Draconium, that neither them or anyone in the city knows the meaning of, rendering it completely redundant once the events unfold. They get tasked to protect the regent: and fail terribly. They lead a group of watchmen into an obvious trap and everyone gets butchered. One of them tries to blow himself up in an act of hollywood heroism to kill the evil bad guy - and fails. And so on... The heroes are extremely one dimensional. Borik, every time he opens his mouth just talks about how they're mercenaries and should leave - that's his entire role. Romilla is just a mother figure for Eleanora and her role just barking at anyone doubting her "daughter". Eleanora: just another badly written genius in the history of badly written geniuses. As Hollywood has decreed, every genius needs some form of OCD, be cuhrayzee eccentric or otherwise weird or obnoxious. That's apparently how geniuses have to be written and we can't stray from that - ever! Set ups that are completely dropped. Eleanora who gets bitten by a random(!) spider not affiliated with the Gits, talks about making an insect repellent. The reader of course thinks that this will have a pay-off as the Gits are accompanied by neverending waves of insects that are described constantly in the novel. In scriptwriting this is called a "set up" for something that has a pay-off. Does it? No. Despite her talking about it multiple times, its just never mentioned again. Also, her spider-bite she almost dies of gets magically healed by Sigmar himself and turns into lightning. Bravo Andy. Bravo! There's much more I could highlight, like how convenient many things are like characters getting caught and stripped off all their gear but for that device they need, which the gits conveniently missed. Or character deaths being completely pointless. Only read this if you're interested in Gobboporn, and wanna witness the destruction the bad moon brings. The characters, the story, and the quality of the novel itself take a backseat. I wasn't surprised to learn that Andy Clark is a background writer for GW's settings as Gloomspite feels exactly like Battletome fluff text, needlessly stretched out to novel length.
  9. Yeah its a real shame. Especially for those who actually want to play the game, as so many sets are rotting on shelves of miniature scalpers or worse, got thrown away. I personally know a guy who bought Escalation solely due to the miniatures and threw the rest away. And I'm still mad about it. Not only because I would've happily bought it from him. You can still find the rules and map pieces sold online though, as other people not quite as selfish, offer them on ebay after grabbing the minis. The same ****** will happen with Cursed City and its expansions sadly.
  10. Looks almost 40k-ish Inquisitorial to me tbh. Put him in Blackstone Fortress and I wouldn't bat an eye... (and that's a good thing.) I do enjoy the simpleness of the model a lot though. An aristocrat wearing fur, done. On the other page I read about GW "shifting things around due to shipping issues", which is very welcome. My buddy who owns this cities LGS has been complaining for weeks now. Orders he made 8 weeks ago are still nowhere to be seen. Some people said that The Cursed City is right around the corner, but I have no clue how GW wants to do a major release with these Brexit and Covid related issues still lingering.
  11. Based Werner. But maybe they're supposed to be not so clear? I mean, who says that whoever designed them, went with only one inspiration or skull to model them to? Maybe that's why they're left unclassified. I mean, otherwise their description of having a "leering animal skull" is unnecessarily vague for models that share the same skull throughout their range. Could just say horse or rodent skull and be done with it. Or maybe they were supposed to have different animal skulls before someone said that its too much hassle.
  12. As many people before, I can wholeheartedly recommend Warcry. Its a great game and has some Necromunda vibes to it, thanks to the unique Warbands. But given that you're mostly a hobbyist who just wants to play with what he collects and paints, I think Underworlds might be the better choice. First of all, the cost factor is great, from all perspectives. For 20€ you get a box of minis that often include models that are more expensive individually. Like Thundrik's Profiteers who cost 25€ for five minis, and include a Khemist which for the Kharadron Overlords, costs 22,50€ as a single model. You get to collect different sets of different armies - all of which can be used in Age of Sigmar itself if you ever decide to go deep, as they have rules in their respective Battletomes - and the game itself is a lot of fun. Plus, the cardgame aspect is attractive to people who might not want to play a pure miniature wargame.
  13. Anyone else thinking that out of the bosses in the Cursed City, Radukar doesn't really look that BBEG? He's just not that imposing in my eyes. And I think its the hat that does this to me.
  14. True, you're right about that. But I was thinking more about the unique hero models in Blackstone Fortress, which are mirrored by unique hero models in Cursed City. Maybe the enemies will be released, but afaik, the traitor guardsmen from BSF which a lot of people wanted weren't released either.
  15. Radukar update on WH community but no official release date... ugh. Unless you buy them on ebay or another reseller, no. I mean, judging from previous sets.
  16. More than killing the setting? I think GW knows very well that they reached the bottom of that well already. I'm not so sure its aimed at the WFB old guard either. To some degree, sure, but a lot of them/us would rather want the world back as it was, rather than paying to play a prequel to it, which may end up quite differently aesthetically and game wise. And GW knows it. There's a reason why it's marketed as a "Prequel to Age of Sigmar", rather than "another way to relive the glorious days of Warhammer Fantasy".
  17. I'd happily pay more for modern metal minis. I've seen what incredible detail can be etched into molds with lasers firsthand before. I still can't get used to how flimsy plastic minis feel, even after decades of playing...
  18. That would be a surprise release to say the least. I'd reckon it'd be around the corner with the info being basically done by now, but that'd be almost too good to be true. I hope it gets the the same expansions as Blackstone Fortress did, 2 1/2 expansions + the Annual, introducing more rules and quests campaigns. But the whole set will cut a hole in my wallet. BSF ended up being 365€ in its entirety. If we assume that Cursed City will be 200€ flat, and gets the same expansions, it'll end up 445€. Because Beastgrave. Nightvault's range is the one being currently repackaged for AoS. I guess there's a time or seasonal expiration window for the repackaging.
  19. GW's range is full of old minis that stuck around for some reason. I'm not saying its 100% the case, just that I'm leaning towards repackaging myself.
  20. I believe this as well. As GW has used the recent times to do that to a lot of sets. Most of the old Underworlds sets have been repackaged into AoS sets without the cards and being 5€ cheaper for some time now. Thundrik's Profiteers or Mollug's Mob are two examples of sets that were "No Longer Available" just a week ago, but are now both back in stock. With a new army on its way, a repackaging makes sense.
  21. I certainly enjoyed the exploration of a cult worshipping an ancient god. I'm a sucker for these kind of stories, and that's what kept me reading. What I didn't enjoy was the utter mediocrity and predictability of it. It may be good book for someone who doesn't read much. Also, "its not for you" is a very nonsensical argument to make just because someone didn't enjoy a book that you personally liked. I like Horror, Warhammer as well as cult based stories, etc. I just didn't particularly like this book. I dropped Anathemas, as the stories proved to be too tropey and standard for my tastes. Not a single story I read was original, and I just found it pointless. Next on the list are Lady of Sorrows and Overlords of the Iron Dragon, which are promising as I loved all the books of Clint Werner I've read so far.
  22. This. Especially given the scope of The Old World being a HH style spin-off which's estimated sales are (probably) way behind the main games, they'd never be able to get rid of all those bases with only ToW sales.
