  1. For maximum splash MW damage I would try this list :

If enemy lets you go first, you toast him with magic. If he goes first, he impales himself on the wardens, deletes them but next turn, he's magically roasted :)

Archmage Teclis and Celennar, Spirit of Hysh (660)
    Celestant-Prime (340)

    Lord-Exorcist (120)
    - General
    Lord Kroak (320)
    10 x Vanari Auralan Wardens (120)
    10 x Vanari Auralan Wardens (120)
    10 x Vanari Auralan Wardens (120)
    Umbral Spellportal (70)
    Everblaze Comet (100)
    Quicksilver Swords (30)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 66

After reading Lumineth battletome and comparing it to ours, the only thing i can say is sad. The number of passive boost, spells, AA, etc.... Our entire spell lores can be summared as Azyrite halo and deal d3 mortals... While they have everything.

Guys, like i really love this army. I play only them, i have succes with them. But if SCE doesnt get what SM in 40k get in terms of power, i dont know what i will do.

Buy LRL. GW wants you to do it. I did to my great shame!

SCE can ally with "Any ORDER faction", so barring a specific rule or exception, we can ally them although the opposite is not possible ;)

Yeah, until it gets nerfed :D.
Sadly, I used to theory craft totally crazy and powerful lists before COS. But now they're not usable anymore due to COS units only affecting COS units, even if taken in GA : Oder.

Is it still valid ? I mean we're supposed to use the latest scrolls available right ?
Before COS is used to take an assassin in with the SCE, but now he can only hide within COS units.
Do you see what I mean ?

Realm artefacts from Malign Sorcery are being phased out with GHB 2020, which is another big blow to Stormcast since we leaned on those artefacts.

It's indeed a major insult to the state of the game in general. They used to make us able to balance the game, even with defavourable odds (SCE BT sucks but artifacts mitigate that).
Starcast will be heavily nerfed because of that. Shootcast don't really care.

They won't be playable in Matched Play anymore. In Open and Narrative Play the Malign Sorceries Artefacts are still usable.

This is more than a letdown. I really enjoyed tailoring my army lists with different artifacts. Some stormcast battalions/list who were subpar were made incredibly fun to me and challenging to my opponent, just because of artifacts.

The disappoint is strong in me

Re-read the page. The rules for playing in a realm are separate from the rules for choosing a realm for your army to hail from. Remember that artefacts are selected when you write your army list, whereas choosing a realm to play in is determined after determining what battleplan you are using.

But then it means that actual malign sorceries artifact will disappear. Otherwise it  doesn't make sense!

Guys i just bought the book. Im planning to play a list around lord celestiant on stardrake. What cavalry is better? There are so many options..

    Go for it.
Stardrake + Desolators can be a real pain in the ass for your opponent. MW output at 12 inch for the 6 desolators, they get a 2+ with the staunch defender trait you put on your Stardrake, who's protected by ignax scales. You can switch the Castellant's light to the deso or the stardrake depending on what is attacking what.

Come visit the Starcast thread. We've got everything you want over there ;).

Reading all this Lore makes me excited and indecisive about starting the Army.  The Wind Spirit Sounds like something I would absolutely love and omg Horse Archers --> yes please! ^^ However not having much choice in generic nameless Heroes makes me almost want so say no to the Army. .....Almost :D
After seeing the Nations I decided that I wanted to avoid Ymetrica and the Alarith, (I am not into the Cow and Horn Motifs but also do not hate it with a passion)  but I also like to use unnamed Heroes, well that basically leaves the Cathallar .. 😄 But the Vanari Units are the most beautiful Battleline in the whole Game!
I might dabble in Hyshian Terrain instead and wait for more releases like the naive
(High)-Elf Fan I am.  Or start a small Vanari - Auralan Battalion? Strange times to wargame ..... :)

I do not like the cow symbolism either, although the Cow behemoths are really well done miniatures. What I hate the most are the helmets of the cow warriors.
But I did order a box, to my great shame.
Because as you said, those battlelines are just WOW. I wish HE had such beautiful lancers.

    There's a still floating around from the "This Week in Warhammer" video accompanying the GHB announcement that shows two prominent changes for matched play;

    a) When you select a battleplan, you have to roll to see which realm it takes place in (this may have already been a matched play standard, but I know in the Australian scene at least it wasn't really enforced before.)

    b) A direct quote from the video; "If you decide that your army is from a specific Mortal Realm and wish to make one of your artefacts of power a realm artefact, you must pick the realm artefact for your chosen Mortal Realm from the following pages, instead of using an artefact from Malign Sorcery." It shows the Realm of Aqshy as an example which features only a single artefact.

Basically, it looks like we're losing out on access to the 96 artefact choices from Malign Sorcery and replacing them with 8 from the Generals' Handbook in matched play games. This would mean no more Ethereal Amulet/Aetherquartz Broach/Gryph-Feather Charm/Ghyrstrike/etc unless they make it in as the realm artefact for their respective realm in the GHB. Just as an example in terms of list construction for the armies I own, it affects my Hedonites of Slaanesh (especially if I play Syll'Esskan Host), Daughters of Khaine, Legions of Death and to a lesser extent my Sylvaneth, but won't affect my Tzeentch or Lumineth Realm-Lords. Newer battletomes tend not to rely on the realm artefacts as much, so I can't see this being too big an issue for prospective Lumineth players like us (I haven't come up with a single list idea for them that involved any realm artefacts!)

I just saw the video and the two pages of the GHB 2020. It doesn't say we're forced, it's just IF we want our army to be specifically from a realm. So, we should be good, no ?

Hmm, potentially, but I feel like their poses are a little too wide to fit within 25mm squares. Unfortunately I don’t have any square bases to test it out on for you, but most of their feet sit fairly close to the edges of their 32mm bases.

Ok cheers. They would make great replacement for the outdated HE lancers!

I got my box and have finally finished building the models. They’re a bit of a fiddle, lots of little bits per model, some slightly oddly cut up. But man do they look sexy! The hugely long pikes look boss!

I’m going to go a slight variation on the Iliatha scheme. On the models they’ve done, they do them orange and the armour as white with no trims, which I’m not a huge fan of, so I’ll be painting them much closer to the art piece for them, with more of a yellow as the main colour, more of a blue-grey for the armour and pale copper trims.

Can they be used in square base for WFB ?

Ok, this has me thinking of a potentially interesting list:

    Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals
    - Stormhost: Anvils of the Heldenhammer

    Leaders
    Drakesworn Templar (420)
    - General
    - Storm Lance
    Lynus Ghalmorian on Gryph-Charger (240)

    Battleline
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield

    Units
    8 x Desolators (800)

    Total: 1760 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 93

The idea in my head is they Lynus sticks close to the Desolators to provide +1 to hit buff, Stormhost ability, and any of the buffing spells (Celestial Blades is my favorite, but Azyrite Halo and Thundershock could be useful too.)

The Drakesworn provides redundancy/further buffing. It looks like those +1s would stack.

I went with 4 units of Desolators so there is a wounds buffer to keep their attacks bonus.

The extra 240 points could go into anything (including another unit of Desolators, if one were so inclined.) I was considering adding in some Judicators and going for the Thunderhead Brotherhood to reduce drops and add a command point, but the points don't work out.

Moving the big block o' Desolators around the table would be tricky, and the list is a 1 trick pony that'd be pretty simple to debuff. Grabbing objectives would be iffy too.  Probably not Tournament worthy, but would make for one heck of a fight.

You need a castellant, it's compulsory. A knight Azyros could do the trick too so you don't need a CP to reroll ones.
Keep your Drake where it's "protected", on a table Edge. near your Desolators. Try to engage with the Drake first so the enemy can'tpile in on the desolators, wreck face with said unit. Rinse. Repeat.

Since the Generals Handbook 2019 page 57 each Hero basicly has a Command Ability for either rerolling to Hit rolls of 1 in the shooting phase or the combat phase. Maybe this is what @Dankboss means. At least if the GH2020 doesn't remove the Command Abilities.

Ah I see! Thanks, I never used that :D

I'm not a massive fan of the Azyros, given just how accurate Freeguild can be; I would take a battlemage of whatever flavor instead. You already have a potential source of reroll 1s to hit from your Griffon if you need it.

    Hey thanks for your reply.

I don't see in HH CA or the general on griffon CA a way to reroll hit of 1. What am I not seeing here ?
