π sounds right. Next project is a drake, certainly. Cant miss that badboy with staunch defender π

Thanks @readercolin for bringing those options up. Yes, in the last game my opponent was bunkering down and spreading magic + endless spells all over the board. I needed adress that π. But in the future I will favor not exposing my kitties too much, 520pts is a commitment at least. With 9 raptors by their side, anvils seemed the best option for me. Vindicators are very tempting but then you have all your bets on melee - what do you guys prefer in terms of host? Especially if the games get more competitive cheers

Hi kitty-friends, yesterday I had my first game with a freshly painted block of 6 Evocators on Dracolines. It was a blast! So much fun π Against CoS Hammerhall. Major Win for me. Was a totally new experience for a nagged SCE Vanguard player like me. The melee damage output, omg. Together with 9 longstrikes and anvils. Ok I need to stop and get to my question. π Only difficulty I faced was to keep my support herod up to the speed of the Evokitties. Heraldor and Castellant had a very tough time getting in range to buff the second turn. Only a 5β and 6β run roll prevented worse. Any hints how to use them better? Or is it the price to pay. Here a pic if their first mission. And yes, shame on me. The bases werent finished on time π
-
Yes its a single drop. Just sad that the Raptor Longstrikes donβt fit in on 2k. And βonly non heroβs +1 attackβ come on GW
-
For a beginners friendly army (at least it was advertised that way to me) they are absolutely not beginners friendly. Ok painting maybe. But otherwise too many units doing closely the same. Being +- 20pts in difference. Listbuilding becomes a nightmare until you figure out what works and what not. Until then you may spend a lot of time and money on dead ends. Keeping fingers crossed that a new battletome brings 2-3 new chamber units and a new hero - but losing a the same time redundant units, big style! Ps: GW should also check community updates for the warscrolls/abilities. Stuff like @PJetski did. I know they, wont but still π

They can be fun and able to win some games..IF used properly. I play myself a pure vanguard army. You can see that in some of my threads I opened. First: Dont stick to the one-drop mega battalion of vanguard too much. Yes its fun to try, I did it my self. But totally useless in games. You chip a wound here and there, do some coole moves, grab objectives but mostly you get overrun in turn 2. Check other vanguard lists! Think of allies or accepting other chambers like Sacrosanct and Draconis Second: You need at least one solid hammer. Most factions nowadays have 3+ in a 2k game. So install 9 raptors with AH, 6 palladors with CV aso. Third: focus fire π₯ use the advantage that all your forces shoot. Kill/Weaken important targets before your opponent has a chance to use them ..and most of all have fun with them in casual games. That army is not a tournament performer. But lets see what the future (rules) bring. Cheers

You can do (closely) the same with his ride the winds aetheric and then port the unit out with the azyrite hurricane. Saved my *** several times. The range is insane, 7d6 (mount trait) + 24β wholly., gets you everywhere! Port me out scotty π Just stronger hunters, palladors and boy that would be an army
-
Thats their role. Giving you a turn more to shoot freely, or to reposition. Or to even counter charge if you have a melee unit that can dish out some melee damage.
-
@Kramer Hereβs a fun list I play on 1,5k games. Full Vanguard fluff and as Celestial Vindicators they can do some damage actually. Keep the Palladors buffed and charging (RR 1s to hit, +1 attack), Raptors shoot off heroes or chaff. Voila π - Stormhost: Celestial VindicatorsLord-Aquilor Knight-Venator Neave Blacktalon Knight-Heraldor Battleline5 x Vanguard-Hunters 5 x Vanguard-Hunters Units3 x Aetherwings 6 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows 6 x Vanguard-Palladors Total: 1490 / 1500
-
@Raffonerd Which Hero would you swap for the Relictor?
-
Great feedback. Haven't seen kitties in our local tournament meta tough..just coincidence or are kitty lists not that competitive in the end?
-
Im currently painting my own kitties list. Glad you brought it up. Ever thought about adding a second caster and a comet? Something like that: Lord-Arcanum on Celestial Dracoline Knight-HeraldorKnight-Incantor Lord-Castellant 5 x Sequitors 5 x Sequitors 5 x Sequitors 6 x Evocators on Dracolines6 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows 3 x Aetherwings Everblaze CometTotal: 1980 / 2000

Flying/Cavalry and/or Cheap chaff to drop from skies. Works for me..mostly π Depends strongly on battle plan, drop count (who goes first) and your opponents army

You canβt currently. Lets keep our fingers crossed for a points dropπ€ on battalions or units. Probably wont happen on units a 3rd time
-
Marc, yes he could keep Neave..keyword fits, but the 20points more are a problem. The list is already on 2k exactly. I mean he could change the Venator to a Zephyros and take those 20pts save to keep Neave. But that would make the list even worse. ps. A Zephyros with a Blade of Judgement artifact is actually as good as Neave. If you have the artefact spot left. But then no Ignax scales π cant have them all I guess
-
Its not. You miss the mandatory 3 Knights from the V. Auxiliary Chambe battalion. So drop the dogs, change Neave to Zephyros only, change the one Longstrike to Hurricane, add a Venator and an Azyros. Voila 2000pts and a 1 drop army. Also make use of the extra 3 command points and the 4 artefacts you have now. E.g luckatone to Venator, Ignax to Aquilor aso. A fun army to play, but unf not that competitive..the battalions are bad for those costs. With longstrike maybe, just maybe..but cant squeeze them in on 2k game. Cheers

I played roughly 15+ games with them..well, so lets try to answer your question. As stated before Vanguards (except Raptors and Aetherwings) arenβt to powerful compared to other units of Stormcast Eternals, BUT you can have some very fun and triumphant games on a casual to ambitious level. With Vanguard all your army does shoot - focus fire a unit or hero and they are no more. Boost that with Anvils of Heldenhammer even more. Aquilor is horrible in combat but moving a group of raptors/palladors guaranteed(!) each round will make the opponent insane! (Bluff deployment anyone?! ) The hunters are best kept in air and dropped 7β to the enemy back line, thats a fair chance to charge successfully. Enemy casters and vulnerable heroes be aware. All in all don't frontal clash with your opponent, rather use your movement to dictate where and when you will enter a fight. Under the circumstances you set. Frankly the army is hard to master and even in that state tricky to play..but if you don't give up after few losses, you will have a unique and awesome looking army on the table which chews traditional play-styles for breakfast and rewards smart movement with a fair chance to win. Have fun!

They do. Was love on the first sight for me π π They would need some warscroll love from GW tough...but hey it is what it is, so lets do the best with the tools they have available
-
Thanks guys. Good luck with your first Vanguard Game Lord K.

@Lord Krungharr@Ironblaze Thanks so much for the suggestions. I will certainly implement them the next games. The game was yesterday. I went with list nr1. Savage until the end, agsinst pure skaven skryre tournament army..with 2 bells, 6 warplock jazzails, 3 ratling guns and 2 add. casters..uff, got even double turned (2nd round)..toughest match so far, but I won!!π unbelievable How? Relocation Orb. I took first turn to block gnawholes left and right, dropped comet with 36β. Bluffed location of Raptors and relocated immediately with Aquilor, Venator landed star fated, both bells 9dmg. But then double turned π Could save the eels and dropped again the comet (he dispelled prev). Teleporting Aquilor and dropping out of sky Neave, Azyros and 3x Hunters in his open back. Keeping 40β from his jezzails. The Orb also favoured me a bit..but not too much. I was really surprised how important movement is on 2k scale with shifting objectives. And Hunters..finished off both bells, I need to give them prob more credit π

Hi, next week I have my first 2k game coming up (yay). I play a mostly SC Vanguard army, the other player an undefined Skaven army. Combing all my available models, I tought about bringing one of the following 2 lists. What do you think, which one should perform better? Any other ideas? Do Anvils make sense with 6 Raptors or to go without host and Staunch defender? I appreciate any feedback (Ps. I have only Van.Hunters as battleline). Cheers Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals - Stormhost: Anvils of the Heldenhammer Lord-Aquilor (180) - General - Trait: Deathly Aura - Mount Trait: Aethereal Stalker Knight-Azyros (100) - Artefact: Soulthief Knight-Incantor (140) Knight-Venator (120) Neave Blacktalon (120) 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (110) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (110) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (110) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 3 x Vanguard-Palladors (180) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 3 x Aetherwings (50) 6 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows (340) 6 x Akhelian Morrsarr Guard (340) Everblaze Comet (100) Wounds: 115, 2000pt or to drop the Incantor and Comet and go with more Palladors and an additional unit of Aetherwings: Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals - Stormhost: Anvils of the Heldenhammer Lord-Aquilor (180) - General - Trait: Deathly Aura - Mount Trait: Aethereal Stalker Knight-Azyros (100) - Artefact: Soulthief Knight-Venator (120) Neave Blacktalon (120) 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (110) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (110) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (110) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 6 x Vanguard-Palladors (360) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 3 x Aetherwings (50) 3 x Aetherwings (50) 6 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows (340) 6 x Akhelian Morrsarr Guard (340) Wounds: 131, 1990pt

@Lord Krungharr take the Luckstone for the Venator and yes Aquilor can have a command trait, mount trait and relic. Let me know how the full Vanguard Chamber performs? π played with the same idea, but the prob was the auxiliary battalion feature affecting only βNon-Heroesβ. Also 3 seperate units for the raptor hurricanes (cant squeeze in longstrike), just why GW?! Bye bye Anvils Stormhost. Invested those battalion points eventually in a knight-incantor + meteor and IDK eels allies, also nasty π

Im one of those new players being drawn in to AoS. I have always been fascinated by the world of classic Warhammer, but it was not accessible to me due to several decades of lore, rules and experience of existing players. AoS was a fresh start with a new rule set, similar to a Server Restart. Now my time has come. And what a blast the last 1 year was π Two painted 2k armies, load of fun and new friends. Many of those friends (we are a small game club, with 90% from WHF) still talking about their old worlds, where i feel like the newbie I tried avoiding to be. But that being more and more seldom, with old armies being converted to AoS. The transition was almost done. Almost. Now this announcement. I assume it will at least draw back the attention of many old world players to WHF. Getting AoS to lack players in small communities. It will likely kick people like me out of hobby again.
