  1. I think more so than ever the army has the tools to run lists of just "big dudes", with Soulstealer Carrion helping out on objectives, and Stalkers/Immortis being such great picks(Morghasts to a lesser degree as well). Those bigger miniatures is what makes me want to collect OBR in the first place.

But it makes me really sad that there aren't any generic Katakross/Stalker/Immortis sized heroes in the army.
Don't get me wrong, Katakross is an amazing miniature -and his rules are great now. But when I'm hobbying I like to make my armies "my own", and come up with lore for my units and stuff like that. I'm sad I don't have a thematic hero to lead my army if I was going to make an army like that.

On a less dour note I think the new book looks great. So many more ways to play the army now, and so many more viable subfactions!

Got some games against Sons, Ironjawz and Tzeentch toda, all wins!

Did you try stacking rend on the Thunderers from the Admiral and the Khemist? I feel like the army is missing a true hammer, so I'm contemplating buffed Thunderers vs Zon Skywardens in Frigates. Thunderers with 4+ rally do sound wonderful for grinding on an objective though.

Also do you have an opinion on the Gunhauler and the Arkanauts? I feel like the Arkanauts don't really do anything beyond being bodies(which the army needs for objectives), so it kind of feels sour to pick them. Gunhaulers also feel underwhelming to me.

  3. So is this guy going to be a Warcry warband unit, or is he actually the spear unit champion in the multipart Gutrippaz - and we somehow just haven't seen him or the vultures yet?
Sorry if this is off-topic, but I figured this would be the right thread since he is unreleased.

Just noticed the face looks like a giant distended, toad-like mouth, and now I can't unseen. Like this dude's scro.tum neck covers the entirety of his torso. I went from hype to utterly zero.

I realize this post is 7 hours old, but I'm just throwing in my "ten thousand hours in paint" rendition of what I think I'm seeing.

  5. Order

    • Melee swashbuckler type infantry for KO, to go in the Iron Sky Attack Squadron instead of Arkanauts.
    • "Upgrade" kits for IDK's cavalry with differently posed eels, and a second wave for the faction.
    • New Dwarf faction.

    Chaos

    • Chaos Dwarves, yes I know it won't happen.

    Destruction

    • Hobgoblins.
    • A second wave for Ironjaws.

    Death

    • The Liege Immortis for OBR, allowing you to take Necropolis Stalkers as battleline.
    • New Hexwraiths, or a replacement cavalry unit for Nighthaunt entirely.
    • New Grave Guard.
    • A Vampire Lord mounted on a nightmare.

Then the new Air Temple of the LRL will defeat Sigmar‘s reinforcements .

For some reason the Lumineth wind temple is separate from their sky temple, so I'm not sure it's this.
But I don't have any better alternatives myself. I don't know why KO would fight SCE for example.

So here's my theory - Ulfenkarn is Warhamerese for Wolf's Cairn. We get werewolves (ulvar) and Norse/Viking undead. Badabim badabum, thank me later.

Scandinavian here, this was my first thought as well.

Also, a TLDR from this month's White Dwarf:

Hrunspuul the Hound of the Cairns is a Godbeast and the progenitor, or so legends claim, of the Vyrkos Vampires. It's lair is hidden somewhere in Shyish.

  8. I don't play Fyreslayers, but I thought you gents should see this too.

Here's an interesting tidbit from this months White Dwarf!
The paragraphs about "the master maker" and the "Duardrazhal" from the Fyreslayers battletome are printed in it.
And there's also a Fyreslayers story where "totally not the white dwarf" aka Azkharn sings the following song:

    Quote

    Karaz Ankor krunked,
    a khazakendrum zharr,
    Bin rikkuz loz grungned,
    Angrung kan binazyr,
    Kharadron binskarren,
    Drengizharr a galaz,
    Azka duardrazhal,
    KarazAnkor grungnaz.

And here's my sloppy translation attempt:

The Dwarven realm fell to disaster,
    in a fiery battle.
    ???????????
    will stay and mine Azyr.
    Kharadron in the sky.
    Fyreslayers with their gold.
    Duardrazhal's massive construction
    Making the Dwarven realm.

Just thought this was very worth having a look at if you're a Dwarf fan!

  10. Not sure if I'm being blind, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ossiarch Bonereapers yet!

According to their battletome they are missing a whole bunch of heroes, seemingly one type of infantry, and a purposely vague description of characters like the spymaster on Katakros' base and all his birds that you can see on various models.

The heroes listed are the Leige-Morek, Leige-Immortis and a Prime Hekatoi. For those that don't speak OBR that means a leige on foot, a big construct leige, and a sort of super commander/strategist.

The possible infantry listed is called the "Necrophoroi", but I have no idea if it's actually infantry or a gibberish word for the kavalos' mounts or something.

If GW is keeping a Leige-Immortis from me that would let me pick Stalkers as battleline I'd be willing to pay a small tithe for it's release. Here's hoping that OBR rumor engines is anything but a warband!

SPELL IN A BOTTLE....  I do not see the value in it.  First it takes up an artifact slot when there are soooo many good choices here - looking at you Sven's flair gun and phosphor bomblets.  In addition, you are spending points on a once per game cast.  Opponent dispels it next turn and done.  Points gone.   We are talking 100 points.. that's 3 endrinriggers... that's three wounds back on a ship (maybe) per turn... that's drill cannon/volleygun/skyhook/aethersaw damage... that's objective grabbing.. etc.

Sure it is neat.. but holy hell... I'd rather reroll all my hits, army wide, on one critical unit (flare gun) or phosphor bomb an OBR unit.   Plus get more bodies on the board.   Am I crazy?

It's another tool in the army. A khemist is nice to have sitting on a point with some arkanauts for example, and there are endless spells that cost 50-20 points that can augment our army with amazing plays we don't usually have.
Some of these endless spells like the warp-lightning vortex are also hard to dispel as others are pointing out, and others are game changers that just need one round to do their job. I'm really eyeing those that slow or impede movement for example.
