If GW posted a rumour engine that was just straight up a space marine boltgun with a winged skull insignia on it, how long do you reckon it would take for someone to be like "OK, kind of stretching the steampunk thing to its limits, but digging this new Kharadron Overlords model they're teasing! "

About as long as it would take someone to say "There is a skull on that, must be the return of tombkings"

I think they are slowly removing cities of sigmar as an army so would not be suprised if these were not updated

Again dude? Do you have to trash Cities every single time? If you dont like the faction thats fine but dont pour negativity and try to scare people off them every single time they are mentioned.

Are we sure about that?  In the Auxiliary Objectives section (p 108) under Unit Types and Point Values it states that the type of unit is listed in its Pitched Battle Profile, so I would think that summoned leaders are still leaders and summoned battlelines are still battleline.

    Its from the GHB FAQ/errata

The opposite right? Now Tzeentch does not do that anymore. Well everyone needs a minimum of roles to start with and to remove the extra advantage provided by summoning extra stuff seems fair. Death is not impacted as they usually re-setup the same unit destroyed.

Also we are talking about extra points, summoning a unit on an abandoned objective already gives you the objective.

But dont some new plans say objectives are held by battleline or leader?  So a summoned unit cant score the objective as it loses the battleline/leader designation.

@Laststand like this you mean. If you don't want the warp grinder you could just run 20 more wounds and make the clanrats 40 blob 🤣

Maybe with a few less bodies but that looks fun!

As for summoning a verminlord, if your lucky then yes you will summon one in the near future, if your unlucky, you won’t even summon him after 13games

    I have never managed it!

Separately what do people feel about min sized rat ogre units babysitting clan rats.

I have had success with units of 6 but just thinking that 2 could provide a cheap secondary threat that might make non monster heroes think twice about charging, block with their big bases or help to reduce an attacking unit down so that the clan rats still have numbers to hold the objective.

@Ghoooouls explained really well. There is only an small introduction that says that you create unique/personal Heroes, and that's all.

The Anvil of Apotheosis doens't give any description like "X is a named character", so it's up to you if you want to allow traits and artifacts.

Imho, if the characters are not gamebreaking (3+ save with etheral with 3 to5 attacks with 2+hit/2+wound/-3rend/5dmg), I think artefacts and traits could help spice your games a without becoming toxic for both players.

Its all flexible and as you point out used in matched play with permission. The way I read it was that if i was a unique character it would have the same restriction as a named one. Otherwise someone could make 3 vlads.

I personally wont use artifacts/traits, nor would I agree to an opponent doing it. However, its a choice and you can enjoy your game any way that works for you.

    Hi,

Played a game with Gotrek against Seraphon and this question came up.

Skink Starpiest buffs up a unit of Skinks with "Serpent Staff" ability. The Skinks firing 80 shots, hitting 30 of them, and then rolling 5 sixes on the wound rolls. Does Gotrek make 5 saves against the Mortal Wounds using "Shoulder Plate of Edassa", or are the 5 MWs considered 1 MW becuase of "Avatar of Grimnir? and therefor only make 1 save roll for that?

The MW on the wound rolls are there because of an ability from the Starpriest so that why it's maybe reduced to 1 MW, but the ability says "if the unmodified wound roll for an attack made by that unit is 6, that attack inflicts 1 mortal wound on the target in addition to any normal damage", so the MWs are coming from the separate attacks?

Sorry if confusing, hope you understand :) Seen many threads of how Gotreks rules should be interpret, but couldn't find an answer for this one.

    Thank you!!

It is 5 super save rolls and if they are failed it is one damage for each one. This is because they represent individual attacks. If you had a single hero that had 1 attack that did 5 damage it would be reduced to 1 damage if he failed his super save.

So basically everyone in my local game store plays a meta army, meaning I’ve never won a game. So I bought Gotrek because atleast he can kill something.

Now I knoooow, he’s not the Messiah. But I love the model and the idea of this 32mm base guy just scaring people.

my long term plan is play him with a stardrake and the prime because it’s super cool to have a list with LCoSD,Gotrek, incantor, prime, castellant and some libs (+comet). Now, i havnt painted my stardrake yet and that’s gonna take a while sooo, i was wondering how you guys use Gotrek in SCE? is there a list where i can use him and the prime and some ballistan? All i know is a need to buy a cp to get him to run 6” turn1 or im probably screwed

any tips on a Gotrek list, or ideas on how to get the most out of him in SCE? Not looking to win tournaments so give me your fun ideas aswell as ”good” ones 😎

Stardrake, gotrek and the prime in one list is going to leave you in a very difficult position to win most games before you even finish the list. Stormcast are expensive as it is so you will end up with so few bodies you wont be able to capture objectives. I would drop at least 1 of the 3. Or go crqzy and add in max sized units of aetherwings for bodies.

    High body count!

    this list?

    your joking right??

But the list does look cool, and I would personally also use it, if I hadn’t fallen in love with the best unit in the whole game!

    ”The Doomwheel!”

@Skreech Verminking You may want to check out Doom and Darkness latest batrep. He runs his mawtribe list v a skaven force that rocks 3 doomwheels. It gets nasty very quickly, unless you are a fan of crackling green lightning, in which case there might be some cheering.

I'd rather have that and pay over the top for it, than have that and have it undercosted.  People are going to take the save because it's the best. Full stop. Call it cynical, but in more than 35 years of hobby gaming, I can't say I've witnessed more than a handful of players choose to not take what they think is the "best" stuff when given a chance. Yeah, sure, sometimes they obfuscate their reason for taking the best stuff with some kind of fluff or other "friendly" application of hobby justification, but at the end of the day, they are taking the thing that they understand to be the most kick butt.

At least the high cost accounts for peoples' innate leanings toward power.

ethereal should be limited to nighthaunt heroes. Hopefully the faq fixes that.

I was having fun creating all those heroes that have been stuck in my head for some time... then I started to notice something. These custom made heroes are damn expensive. 😮 Like almost twice as expensive as an original hero .

    anyway, my creation:

    Grot wizard

    Grot: 3DP
    Wizard (Free): 1 cast / 1 unbind
    weapon 1: Axe = 1DP
    weapon 2: improvised = 0 DP
    Consumate commander= 5DP

    Ward= 3DP
    Regenerate=3DP
    Archmage = 3DP

    Move: 5 inch
    Bravery: 4
    Wounds: 4
    Save 6+

    Weapon 1: 3 attacks 4+ to hit 3+ to wound rend -1 damage 1
    Weapon 2: 3 attacks 4+ to hit 4+ to wound rend 0 damage 1

    18 DP = 180 points.

A "normal" Fungoid cave shaman comes at 90 ptn

While my custom hero still feels cool, my army would be better off with 2x Fungoid cave shamans. 😛
Anyone else feels bummed out too by this?
    Or am I missing something?

    Ps:

I also recreated the light of eltharion, because it's awesome! I came at a whopping 47 dp :o That's 470 points to try and try to recreate a model that's 220 points.  I was trying to make a grot version of the light of eltharion... "The Nightlamp of Skarsnik."

But you have created a different model with regeneration and archmage. Those have to cost something.

Why not have a grot priest, choose the 12" ward save aura, improv weapon, put 5 points into bravery  and make it inspiring so everyone can roll v bravery of 9. Thats 9dp/90 points of very useful grot.

Some people believe it's more fitting to just view Flesh Eater Courts as what became of Bretonia.

It would be very cool to see some FEC models with elements of bret armour, clothes etc maybe even a few models representing the delusion and are 90% knight but one arm is a ghoul claw or something.

For when you use them in narrative games have you considered adding the Khorne keyword to them? It may not see much mechanical use but it could make sense considering the legacy of khorne ability?

Also the abilities you've added look pretty cool story wise. Though the magical feedback hitting every Skaven looks pretty painful buuut will make for some very funny moments. Do you have a particular story reason as to why it only affects the Skaven and not everyone else?

Thanks, khorne keyword is a great shout. The idea was that it effects skaven because the warpstone engine is tuned to Visk's heart with magic and the explosion causes it to jump like chain lightning to other skaven because o the nature of the connection (unstable, key risk mitigations and cutouts ignored) Also I wanted a balance to the "every unit within 6 takes D3" because I could see that looking unfair to people if i charge it into their army. This way it causes chaos across the board which is very Skaven.

Now if i could just find someone with a spare bloodcrusher juggernaut spare I could build it!

Wow, the amount of „Ethereal“ Heroes that are going to walk the Realms is disturbing, seems as if Nagash won.

Also, you are creating a „UNIQUE“ Hero as stated in the describtion - so no command traits or artifacts for custom Heroes.

I will 100% not allow this tool in my games, as it seems to lead to mostly 400p ethereal powerhouses.

Internet already took the fun out of it.

Edit: My gaming group already planned a „narrative game“ using those rules. Guess what. Each player has a 400p max wounds, max save, -3 rend 6 damage ethereal Hero.

I think I‘ll pass on this one.

They can only be used in matched play with the opponents permission. So just agree no ethereal, max 2 rend, 3 damage or somwthing. Or 200p max spend. That also applies to other game types. Is it really "fun" if everyone has an identical 400pt wrecking ball? No. We have seen some cool creative examples already and I am looking fwd to grabbing my book today and having a go.

@Peter (Age of Miniatures) thanks so much for this collection of the GHB2020 points changes! https://ageofminiatures.com/points-changes/

Extremely helpful and I was excited to see how many Stormcast units got the decreases they needed.

They need warscroll rewrites far more than warscrolls. Paladins for example weighed down in armour plates bigger than some models still have a 4+ save and lightning formed stormcast have fairly average bravery. The points going down is nice but i feel that Cities armies will get a big benefit from it rather than pure stormcast. Incantor is a great hallowheart wizard, fulminators have a happy home in Living city etc.

  17. How about people give the thing a chance to be released first? We know the GHB is meant to cover ever style of play, everything gets a bit of support and there is some content for all.

What its not is a solution to all the things people dont like. If you see it like that you will be disapointed. See it for what it is, a AOS annual with some interesting features and updates. The points updates is a bit of a mess but imagine print schedules, covid and all sorts of plans have collided around that. Give GW space.

If you really dont like it, dont buy it. Simple as that, vote with your wallet.
