  1. Whilst the result does feel a bit of a cop out there’s part of me that loves that Katakros was built up, over the short space of a couple of months, as this great tactical genius, the Alexander of the Mortal Realms no less, a man boasting not just a superhuman bulge but the epithet of ‘The Undefeated’.

And then literally in his first on screen appearance, as it were, he just Leeroy Jenkins it into the Eightpoints and gets wrecked.

I’m still going to pick up the book, and Katakros’s model too at some point, but I genuinely hope the last page ends with Archaon introducing the Slayer of Kings right up K’s backside and as his Spirit drifts back to Shyish over the battered and broken remnants of his poorly led troops an eerie voice echoes through the heavens ‘at least I got chicken’.

  2. I might be mistaken but I’m pretty sure that where they can most of the Underworlds warbands have specific sub-faction keywords.

    Hrothgorn - Winterbite

    Grymwatch - Hollowmourne

Eyes of the Nine - Cult of the Transient Form

    Ylthari’s Guardians - Oakenbrow

    etc etc etc

You can still take them in a relevant army  but some of the army wide abilities might not effect them.

  3. Yeah, I’ve barely had to chance to do more than dip into both of them but damn, they’re just so so good. The artwork, the stories, everything so on point. I’m really tempted to actually do some narrative campaigns using the rules in them.

Now I’ve got my dirty mitts on these I just really, really need them to reprint ‘Ere We Go’ & ‘Freebooterz’ and my nostalgia fix should be just about done.

well apart from the constant pain every time I remember my mum binned my big box copies of Blood Bowl, Dungeon Bowl, Adeptus Titanicus, Space Marine, Dark Future, Mighty Empires and Space Fleet about 2 ****** minutes after I left home in 96 😭😭😭

  4. Most of these are obvious variations on existing themes but then I'm not getting paid to do this...

    Daughters of Khaine

The Burning Heart of Khaine - A large molten metal heart that drives those near it into a blood letting frenzy.
The Bloody Naga - A writhing arcane serpent that bursts from the ground, blood pouring from its fangs as it attacks all near.
The Melusai's Stare - A giant gorgon head that can freeze units in place.

    Idoneth Deepkin

The Etherwave - A luminous wave that rips across the board carrying units from one side to the other.
The Mists of Nepenthe - A narcotic eldritch mist that confuses, knocks out and renders enemies insensible, or at least out of action for a turn.
The Soul Lure - Kind of like @The_Dudemeister's Angler fish basically.

Kharadron Overlords (Wonders of Aethermatics - these work differently in that they are support 'weapons' called in from nearby skyports, each turn you have to roll equal to or under the round number on a D6 to see if they've arrived yet, certain characters give you +1s etc)

Aether Vortex Torpedo - Massive ballistic missile fired from a nearby sky port, smashes into the ground discharging voltaic shocks to nearby units.
Flock of Drone Owls - Can repair nearby airships and/or provide am movement bonus.
Cloud Cover - Seeding the atmosphere with aether particles the KO can make thick cloud banks descend on the battlefield, covering line of sight and something else interesting I haven't thought of.

    Maggotkin of Nurgle

Plague of BloatFlies - The disgusting opposite to a Emerald Lifeswarm basically, damaging non Nurgle units, healing their own.
Mire of Despair - A foetid swamp that slows down all non-Nurgle units nearby stopping running or charging.
The Bells of Decay - Giant corroded bells that toll mercilessly, absorbing magical energy and providing casting bonuses to friendly Nurgle sorcerers.

    Seraphon

The Feathered Serpent - A magical flying snake that swoops over the land on iridescentwings, transmuting those below, something boring like D3 MW or D6 to Daemonic units.
The Obsidian Mirror - A large wall of polished jet black obsidian that smashes up through the ground reflecting enemy spells and blocking line of sight.
Sotek's Teeth - A giant dinosaur head that chomps down on all the bad boys.

    Orruk Warclans

The Fist/Foot of Gork - A massive green fist/foot that descends from the heavens and squashes enemy units like bugs.
The Spirit of the WAAAAGH!! - A big bellowing Orruk head that drives nearby units into (even more of) a charging, rampaging, brutish rage of destruction. Effects non Orruks too but in a slightly different way, say whereas it's a straight bonus for Orruks, for others they get +1 to wound but -1 to attack or something.
The Green Door - Orruks want to get to where the fighting's thickest fast. This gets them there.

Cities of Sigmar (will have to be a bit generic)

The Auric Palisade - Your standard magical wall type thing made of shining golden metal.
The Faithful Saint - Relics of a long dead hero that reanimates as a glowing giant and wrecks Chaotic ****** whilst making friendly units pass battleshock tests.

    Ogor Mawtribes

The Great Maw - A great teeth lined pit opens up in the ground swelling any nearby foolish enough to get caught by it's giant slavering tongue.
The Ham of Doom - A giant juicy magical ham that hangs in the air, driving hungry Ogors to even more violent acts and providing eating Ogors with extra beneficial effects.
The Everwinter's Bite - A baleful cold wind made of magical spite that drives Ogor units on at increased speed or something, sorry losing enthusiasm for this now.

'Speaking of events in Germany, we have some folk at the Nuremberg Toy Fair – and we’ll be back later today with some news from the show on upcoming boxed games and expansions, so stay tuned!'

Did we have something revealed but not released in the boxed games section?  Or can we expect something new?

it was just new Aeronatica and Titanicus bits and bobs then...

But I would be more upset if the main villain was just killed just for the sake of progressing the narrative and making the new guys seem tough.

The eternal problem with named characters. A much as we all like to see the story move forward it would be a remarkably bold decision by Games Workshop to announce on the last page of the book that either Katakros or Archaon, or even both, had bought the farm and you were no longer allowed to use their respective hundred quid models in games anymore and in fact you were now required by lore to buy a £25 Warhammer branded hammer to smash them into little pieces.

well there's the Zoat for Blackstone Fortress, we don't know much else about the expansion that chonk will feature in, so could be that. Probably something for Aeronautica or Titanicus too. Have to wait and see I guess!

  8. I assume OBR will win a few battles and establish a beach head. Chaos will win a few battles and besiege them.

Finally Archaon fights Katakross and is about to deliver the killing blow when Orruk Ex Machina arrives, hoofs him in the nuts and we discover it was all a misdirection. Status quo reset, everybody gets something to cheer.

The campaign moves on to Excelsis & the Ruination Chamber is opened as a tribe of Gargants join forces with Gordrakk.

  9. Tempting as it is to assume it’s Part of a Lumineth model, I suspect it could be Aeldari, and specifically a new Ynnari model. After all that’s hardly a range blessed with an over abundance of models that aren’t borrowed from other factions and the ‘rune’ whilst more of a serif one than usual does look like one of the more famous Eldar ones, and that is associated with Ynnead...

what does pull me up though is the ‘rope binding’ attaching the ‘staff’ part to whatever is out of shot which looks more AoS than 40k...

One thing GW is great at is fueling the chase for the new hotness.

Well since they’ve just boosted an army whose winning build is mainly comprised of decade old models guess we’ll have to chalk this up as just another thing GW aren’t apparently actually that great at.

Or do we think that allowing this actually helps to highlight when things aren't working?

I suspect “banning” non-FAQed tomes is the way to go, generally speaking we’re only looking at a delay of a couple of weeks.

i think this weekend though is probably causing a bit more of a brouhaha than usual though because of a perfect storm coming together.

Brand new BT released just before several major events.

Tzeentch players had enough time to find (or just read what others were saying online) the more obvious exploits.

But not enough time for the FAQ to hit it, or other players to figure out any possible counters, or even just how not to walk face first into a curb stomping.

Throw in that it’s an old army, that had previously been competitive and whose major components are also 40K valid, and you probably had an unusual amount of players ready to go straight away.

Finally, if I’m feeling particularly cynical/mischievous/etc I could suggest a lot of the extra rending of clothes, wailing and crying that the end is not so much nigh as here right now comes from the large % of players who thought they could just buy themselves a podium place with a Petrifex Elite build and found their investment turn to Shyishian ash in their mouths.

Lumineth Lore is pretty much the same as Vulcans from Star Trek 😁

Maybe rather than bring out an entire new 'Ulgu Shadow Aelf' range then, Forge World will just produce an upgrade kit of little resin goatees/van d y k e beards to glue onto the Lumineth models.

  13. listophiles might be interested in checking this out, the organiser of the upcoming Hammer & Bolter tournament here in Belgium has just published all the army lists (97 AoS / 100 40K).

An interesting snapshot perhaps of how the game is played in more civilised countries than the barbaric theocracy that is the US & dismal inbred little old Airstrip One.

OBR & Hedonites obviously well represented but a pretty decent showing by most factions. I was actually planning on making this my first ever tournament (with pure Squig nonsense) but sadly will be driving back from Austria on the Saturday now. Tempted to go on Sunday with my camera though and just take pics, there’s a guy at my local GW store who has been building the most incredible conversion heavy 40K Ork army that I’d loved to get action shots of, I mean check out his Stompa AT-AT. Insanity.

  14. has the number of ugly, massive, irrelevant adverts on this site just increased exponentially overnight for everyone else? fair enough TGA has gotta keep the lights on and those new Aleves ain't gonna buy themselves but just checking I haven't managed to infect my laptop with my unsavoury web practices...
