I was looking back through the video reveal, and this caught my eye:

    image.png.a89d22acb60fe648f623e9f41666c1ab.png

Does that look like two legs danging from just above screen off of a long, snaky body, on a fairly large base? There is a slight amount of parallax rotation from the panning shot that indicates that the purple portion to the right of the raised myrmidon blade is a round tubular shape bent in a curve towards the viewer.

    A Slaangor mayhaps?

Im ashamed to admit despite owning close to 1.5k points of slaanesh daemons now, getting the chariot in shadow and pain is the first time I've bought a slaanesh chariot. As a quick question can you, and should i buy another chariot kit (likely from somebody selling the same one from S&P on eBay) and assemble it as an exalted seeker chariot?

I know such questions are not the best on these forums, but it's hard to know how good or bad the chariots genuinly are given how much we depend on depravity points.

As far as chariots go you cant go too wrong with an exalted chariot in either AoS or 40k. I'd say its a safe buy. Outside of that you should really have a plan or just expect mediocrity out of the modest hellflayer or seeker chariot.

That's correct but we've known about it for quite some time. Really, the GHB is pretty outdated and they could just update points in the app. Which they still haven't done to my knowledge (seriously what is up with the app delay it's just numbers that need to be punched in). I'm actually more upset about that.

Wow, that's pretty frustrating. I get that they cling pretty hard to these written rules updates as a business model. The battletomes/GHB must be a strong revenue stream for them. But the consistent day one FAQs really leave a sour taste in my mouth especially for how expensive the books are.

I mean, I basically purchase the GHB for the updated points! I'm glad I didn't buy it this time, my current army is KO.

I suppose on the AoS side of the world its not such a big deal with the free warscroll builder and all. But still...

  4. Apologies if I was misinformed, I've been out of the AoS loop lately. Do I understand correctly that the points for several factions were not included in the latest general's handbook? I came here looking for answers and expecting to see some outrage but I see barely a ripple on the topic.

From the Spell in a bottle rule: "Pick 1 endless spell. Any endless spell can be chosen (all restrictions are ignored) but you must pay any points required for the model. Once per battle, the bearer can automatically cast that endless spell (do not roll 2D6) and it cannotbe unbound."

Imo, the "all restrictions are ignored" is linked to "Any endless spell can be chosen". It's a way to say that you can put any Endless Spell in our bottle.

I'd tend to agree with Beliman. I would think the ignoring restriction part only applies to what spells you can choose from. I then got excited by the idea of NOBODY (except Seraphon)  moving the spell but upon close inspection, most of those spells only do their effect when they move. Good idea though @Rangeltoft!

How does everyone feel about Gunhaulers, are they worth it? I will hopefully magnetize the gun but was curious if anyone used Drill Cannons on them, they seem less flexible than the standard cannon. Also what Endrinworks do you like best on haulers? Coalbeard's Collapsible Compartments seems like a really useful one, but if I run two and have the space I'm not sure how the others stack up.

I'll caveat this opinion in that my KO collection is still small and I've only got to play some real low point games. That being said, I've taken Gunhaulers + Endrinriggers as opposed to my Frigate in a few games, but the Frigate always performed better.

Just a quick rules questions , in a Zilfin list, the there's always a breeze rule grants an additional normal move in the hero phase, and since on the boats, fly high replaces a normal move, can a Zilfin boat fly high using there's always a breeze?

You should be able to yes, in my opinion. I usually use this ability to squeeze a move in before disembarking troops.

  8. Looking for some clarification on two items:

    1. If I run the Lurid Haze invader's sub-allegiance, do all three generals gain access to the new command ability "Intoxicating Pall"?
    2. If I take the "Fallacious Gift" invader's artifact, does the targeted enemy hero count as having an artifact of power for the purposes of the Depraved Drove battalion buffs?

    Thanks!

Looking for a bit of advice on how to build Arkanauts and Thunderers.

I have 10 Arkanauts 2 units of 5 Thunderers on sprue, how am i best equipping them all?

I think you could probably stand to give your Arkanauts their full loadout. I think the special weapons generally outshine the pistols shots. The only special weapon you could consider swapping out is the skypike but I kind of like keeping one in for a little bit more melee bite. Good luck.

People seem pretty split on thunderers. Personally, I dont think the special weapon loadout is that much more worse than a full squad of riflemen. So Im going to build mine out with the full loadout for flexibility. But Im also not looking to be optimized.

  10. Welcome to the forums @maaksel! I've recently started a KO army myself. Here are a few recommendations based on my research:

    • Cities of Sigmar - I believe the "Tempest Eye" city noted by @JackStreicher above allows you to field traditional dwarfs (now referred to as "Dispossessed") with a couple of Kharadron Overlord units mixed in. A good way to start if you have a collection of old fantasy dwarfs.
    • Kharadron Overlods - Specifically the Sky-Port (subfaction) Barak-Thryng. The flavor of this sky-port is these dwarfs still revere the old ways. This is like the flip side of Tempest Eye. They are a Kharadron Overlord army that is allowed to field a couple of other dwarfs as well. Another good stepping stone to...
    • Lastly is a full on Kharadron Overlord Army. It really comes down to what kind of theme or flavor your are  looking for. Here are some ideas:
      • Its hard to go too wrong with a Frigate and a Box of Arkanauts.
      • The Start Collecting box is a deal if you are interested in the units inside.
      • Aether War is a recent boxed set you can find on ebay or Miniswap. This is a good jumping point if you are primarily interested in fielding a balloon-backpack based army.
      • Another great deal is trying to find the out-of-print Battleforce box from the holidays. This is a sizable starting force.

That should at least give you a strong starting place as far as what you need to look up and research. I wish you luck!

I still can’t get the Admiral into a list. He just feels like a waste of points to me, the Iron Sky Command is hero-heavy as it is without the optional ones.

Have you considered it gives you narrative permission to wear a funny hat and declare yourself the "Capt'n"?

So, if I compare Frigates vs Ironclads on a per point basis:

    2 Frigates

    Transport more marines.

Can handle more damage when save not buffed by aether gold.

    Deal more bomb damage.

    Are faster.

Are more resistant to single target debuffs.

    Give more flexibility.

    Can transport more Edrinriggers.

    10 pts cheaper

    1 Ironclad

    Deals more gun damage.

Tanks more damage when buffed by aether gold.

    Takes single target buffs better.

Gives lower drops (both for itself and the marines, moot with batallions).

    Cheaper in €.

    Is this a fair comparison?

I think you're pretty spot on. The biggest advantage of the ironclad is stuffing more firepower into the package. Also the glory of bringing the biggest ship we have to bear.

What’s the reasoning behind 2 units of thhnderers in the iron clad instead of 1 large one?

I would consider doing that so I had flexibility to drop units on objectives mid game.

After my two games as an admiral I have totally re-evaluated the worth of the iron sky attack squadron battalion. Flexibility to disembark and embark when I please is an interesting tool.

So what would be a good starting place for Kharadron with the new book? It seems that they have more viable builds now, and the Start Collecting box might actually be useful. How far would 2x Start Collecting + Aether Wars get someone? Thanks!

That would be an excellent start. I'd look into grabbing either a Frigate or Ironclad to build your list around too. The new ship garrisoning is the heart and spirit of the new rules and you'll need one of the big ships to take advantage of them. While I think thunderers are considered more ideal, you may also want to consider a box or two of arkanauts to give me more flexibility with your battlelines. My last, half-serious suggestion is grab yourself an Admiral. I just like the idea of an Admiral manning the ship. :P  Good luck!

Another helpful hint is shop around and see if you can find any of those OOP Battleforce boxes. They've been popping up on secondhand retail sites lately.

  15. I'm a long time slaanesh player. So when the new battletome and models dropped I was, understandable, overjoyed after my years of waiting. But after a few months of experimenting with the new stuff I found that my army just wasn't terribly enjoyable to play against. In my opinion, in a casual setting, it's made me a lot more conscientious about what lists I bring.

So I'd like to echo one of the sentiments from @RuneBrush post from the last page. I think its healthy to do some self-regulating where you can when playing casual games with your friends. One of the mental checkboxes I now have is, "Do I think this list will be fun for my opponent to play against?".

That being said, its hard to self-regulate. People disagree on what is fair and balanced (just read these forums). People disagree on what is fun to play. People like to win. People don't like to lose. Then multiply all these feelings by the sheer amount of time and love we put into building our armies and prepping for our weekly (or even monthly) games.

What I'm trying to say is its a complicated topic and a hard ask to put all the solutions on Games Workshop. Thanks for reading my morning pondering!

A few people have mentioned it in the thread already, but Corvus Belli (Infinity’s producer) has managed to consistently maintain inter faction balance between a game with 20+ factions for years now (counting “sectorials,” the game’s take on sub factions that trade restrictions on broader unit availability for increased availability of certain units and the ability to play with “linked” groups of models in a skirmish game).

There are certainly still “winners” and “losers” in Infinity factions - some are considered more capable at base level than others, and some are definitely more difficult to play well. But, the best tournament players will often win tournaments with the “worst” factions because the game is relatively well-balanced and player skill truly matters.

That said, Infinity lacks, to a larger extent, intra-faction balance. There are some units you just never use, and some units you must play in certain factions to be competitive. However, any unit can still perform, especially in casual rather than competitive games.

AoS has bigger issues with both forms of balance, although I’ll grant that GW has a much larger world of options to balance than CB does. There’s a fundamental difference between skirmish and massed-battle games that makes it harder to catch all of the balance issues in AoS (or 40k). Speaking as someone who cares heavily about balance (both in competitive and casual play, because frankly bad balance hits casual play worse than competitive play), GW does need to do a better job about reviewing books and listening to feedback.

All that said - I’m willing to keep giving GW a chance. The new KO book looks like they really listened to the players. The new Tzeentch book seems to make multiple playstyles useable, even if Changehost is still the best option for competitive play. The nerf to Gristlegore made FEC manageable while keeping them functional and competitive. Only the Slaanesh nerf has really whiffed lately (I’d add my frustration with the SCE Sacrosanct points increases that were totally unwarranted, but SCE is one of the best examples of both bad inter- and intra-faction balance in AoS so, oh well).

TL/DR: it’s hard to balance games with lots of options. Corvus Belli’s Infinity is a good example of how it can be done (even if it still has issues). Modern GW seems to be trying in ways they haven’t before so I’ll continue to extend them goodwill for the foreseeable future, even though I won’t be swapping competitive Infinity play for competitive AoS play.

Was chiming in to say what @Vakarian essentially said more eloquently. Infinity is my bar for balance and tactical depth. Overall, its been a more pleasant casual experience than what GW has offered our gaming group.

For Barak Zilfin Amendment- Dont argue with the wind- Does this still count as a run?

I also had this question! At a glance it looks like that rule is worded funny, but it actually aligns with how the running rule is phrased in the core rulebook. So my interpretation is, yes, you are still running. You just treat it like you rolled a 6 for your run roll.

Ya i painted a thunderer last night with mainly contrasts and it just looked kinda meh. But i just primed my whole army in the grey seer contrast primer lol.  I really wanted to go for an arctic theme and some of the blues would look nice in the contrast lines.

Overall my mates really dig contrast paints. I've used them a few times and haven't been too happy with them myself. That being said, I haven't used contrast with KO, but I've experimented using a basecoat of runefang steel (very light metallic silver) as my base and then going over with contrast. Its a good way to get a colored metallic look. If you do some  google searching you can find a handful of tutorials to see what that looks like. I've heard a gold base with contrast red works well too.

Is there any consensious about the spell of the Bottle? What is the best we can take? I assume we can take any spell, even the only faction ones.

P.S. I like one of the generics, the Shackles.

Some other ones I've seen people throwing out are the Comet spell that stormcast eternal can do and the "warp lighting" spell that I assume is something horribly devious Skaven have access to.

Can you pay for 10 models and only put 9 in the boat so a hero can fit?

I know the rule is if you ever finish a move action and any models are more then 1" away, they die. Can you do the same thing for this?

If so I'm going to do it  even if it is a waste of some points. Seems worth it.

Also, I don't know how this applies but, since arkanauts special weapons  are 1 in 10 models etc, etc. If you purposefully only bring in 9 are you barring yourself out of some special weapons? I recognize that this is a slightly different situation but, for example, Ogor gluttons are barred from taking banner bearers when in units of 3 (as they require 1 in 6 models to field bannermen).

I do not know the answer to these questions, but food for thought to avoid confrontations from your zealous, RAW friends.

2 questions now that my stuff has finally arrived:

    1. New Endrinriggers with Grapnel Launcher right? To protect the ships by locking in the enemy? Or Drill Launcher for damage?

    2. Are all the ships on the ball and socket flightstands? How bad are they?

    Ta!!

I can confirm the Frigate uses the ball and socket stand, however I've not popped them together yet. I mostly stare at the pieces in fear of the intimidating prospect of painting that spectacular model. I did notice some people using and referencing some third party stands? Sorry I'm not more help but I'm here to increase exposure to your questions and eagerly await the answers from the pros!

I'm building my first 12 gluttons, holy ******, so many special models. Do you guys build all banners (2 beast skull, 2 tribal banner in a unit of 12) ? The unit feels so cluttered with so many special models.

In a desperate bid to survive the current meta, ogors find more and more junk to put on poles to inspire their fellow gluttons.

Edit: Not a bad idea to maximize your banner options. A low-key challenge is keeping your unit ogranized in a way so that when you remove models you dont accidentally break cohesion. Having more banners is going to minimize the chance you are forced to remove a banner you dont want to. My two cents.

Do I understand correctly that the Endrinmaster on foot cannot use his "Endrinmaster" ability or his command trait while garrisoned in a ship? He must be deployed outside the ship to use either of those? Thanks!

Why do you think that? If you look at the rules for garrison it doesn’t limit using abilities. The endrinmaster is still on the table. You just use the base of the garrison as his location. That our garrisons fly is irrelevant. And his warscroll doesn’t limit it either. (Like the khemist ability does for example)

could be wrong of course but if so I don’t see the limitation :)

I guess my confusion is do garrisoned units count as being on the table? Or do I get to treat whatever boat he's in as him for determining the range of his abilities. I think my confusion is spawning from some differences between how this works in AoS and 40k. Thanks!

Edit: Read the garrison rules closer. I think I agree with you. Thanks @Kramer.
