  1. This reaction is basically the same as when the Kharadron Overlords came out. The community was deeply divided between the "we love sky dwarves!!!" proponents, and the "keep Squats out of AoS!!!" crowd. Fast forward a couple of years, and the line is a popular seller that is just part of the varied look that makes up the AoS tapestry. Not every army is for everyone, and that's actually a good thing!
  2. Well I still think that Meeting Engagements have lagged in popularity, compared to the buildup of hype that we saw prior to the GHB. But, despite that, it's certainly nice to hear that people are getting some actual play out of those rules.
  3. So when the new GHB dropped, all's anyone wanted to talk about was Meeting Engagements. Fast forward to nowadays. I see very few Battle Reports using their rules. Very few discussions about tactics specific to Meeting Engagements (including on this website). Very few tournaments using Meeting Engagements as an option. All in all, the impact on the game seems to be a resounding "so what?" What happened? Is my perception of the situation incorrect? Did the rules just fail to engage people somehow?
  4. Because it will lock it in place instantly, and you won't experience that slow-motion tip over. EDIT - just as an aside, that plastic stand that GW supplies you with in the box is woefully inadequate. Super wobbly and flimsy. I had to support mine with a couple of extra rods.
  5. Yeah, not so much, man. If anything I would say the opposite.
  6. Are you using plastic glue? If so, don't. Use regular super glue instead.
  7. Except that it was mentioned two separate times. It's unlikely that such a blunder would happen twice
  8. So the gang has been officially released for a few days now. Anyone frantically put them together, and get some games in this weekend? How did it go?
  9. Dude. You are really underselling things here. Marauders are in the discussion for the worst looking kit that Games Workshop currently produces. They are inferior from a technical standpoint, with messed up scales and proportions on nearly all their pieces, and they are an absolute embarrassment aesthetically. Bad guys from a Hannah Barbara cartoon look better than these turds. My opinion of Chaos Warriors is pretty low, but I feel I really need to point out how much of a problem the Marauder kit is.
  10. Great stuff, but I wouldn't add much more terrain of any kind. This game isn't Necromunda - it's not designed to have a board choked with terrain. Aside from the bridges you mentioned, you are already running pretty terrain heavy as-is.
  11. Don't be silly. It was not the existence of Smaug, but rather the actual appearance. That kind of thing is a big deal for people looking to cash in on merchandising knock-offs.
  12. Honestly, my preferred way to play the game is to leave out the realm rules and artifacts. There are plenty of artifacts in the game already (especially as more and more battle Tomes come out), so no I don't think realm Artifacts are really needed. Plus restricting artifacts to an army's unique items gives the army quite a bit more character. Additionally, between the rules for each army, the terrain rules, and whatever rules happen to be part of the actual scenario...do we really need to tack realm special rules on top of that? I personally think we don't. So myself, I prefer a simpler approach to tournaments. I'd probably still attend a tournament, even if realm stuff were used, though. It's not a deal-breaker. I would like to know in advance, and I do prefer the Realm features that don't ****** over a particular army style
  13. Skarsnik? Ew - no thank you. But anything Gotrek is great
  14. If you're interested in Zilfin, they were the protagonists in the Overlords of the Iron Dragon novel. Additionally, KO have been appearing more and more as side-characters in various novels, since their wandering nature makes them useful in the narrative sense. In regards to how deep the various Sky Ports are fleshed out, I would suggest that this is an issue with ALL the various sub-factions in AoS books. The KO ports are neither better nor worse than any of those, really. And quite frankly, I doubt that a new Battle Tome will change that, since any new book will probably devote about the same amount of pages/words towards individual Sky Port descriptions. They pretty much are just a basic framework that players can build off of to create the narrative for their own personal armies. When the KO book came out, they were a completely new concept. It wasn't like traditional dwarves where we've seen races/characters exactly like them in dozens of different fantasy universes. GW had to create a whole new society basically from the ground up, and so much of the book concentrates on "big picture" stuff. Who the KO are? How does the Code work? Stuff like that. They simply didn't have the pages to really delve into the different Ports with any great detail. In AoS, only Stormcast have have sub-factions (stormhosts) that are more fleshed out. But...you know... Stormcasts
  15. Or...it could be what it actually is - a shot up aquilla 😜
  16. Super tangential to why's the majority of your post was about, but quick question - did that particular store have the Contrast versions of black and white in stock? Seems like those have been super hard to get ahold of
  17. I'd grab a Khemist, one additional unit of Arkanaughts, and a Frigate. You need the leader and the extra battle line. At 200 pts, the Frigate is now competitively costed. It doesn't pack much firepower, but it lowers our deployment drops, and provides some mobility and screening. Additionally, it's a start on an Iron Sky Squadron, which is probably our most effective battalion. After that, it's up to you. I'd grab a third Arkanaughts unit, just to get all the weapon options, and to prep for needing three Battle Lines at 2000 pts. Perhaps also grab one of the Start Collecting boxes? Recent points drops have made that box way more appealing. That purchase strategy would give you a pretty decent Meeting Engagement force as well (since you are mostly using minimum sized units).
  18. You should care. The game's pretty boss.
  19. Whoa - first thing, I'm not offended! Sorry if I sounded like I was - didn't mean to seem like I was getting on your case. But, I still don't see where your problem is coming from. You are saying that if they designed some "effects" that are based in technology, but follow the game mechanics of Endless Spells, then you would have an issue? I don't really understand the problem. The narrative would fit, because they are technology, rather than magic. The game mechanics would be solved, because Endless Spells (and all the other similar things) are a known quantity at this point and nicely into the game. It seems like everything fits to me?
  20. So they use technology to call up weather effects that simply use the same rules as prayers. You get that a Navigator can already call up storms on demand, right? I think you are being overly pedantic about the terminology here.
  21. Yes, absolutely. But as usual, the primary plot revolves around his hatred for Stormcast and Sigmar. The other elements are not quite in that league.
  22. "Central" is a bit of an exaggeration. They are an important part, certainly, but the real center of the Soul Wars conflict is (as always) the Stormcast, and their continual denial of souls to Nagash
  23. Yeah I think it's pretty clear that Cities and Orruks are getting terrain and spells. It's been what, 7 or 8 armies in a row at this point? I think we can safely say that this is a development strategy, rather than just a trend or fad
  24. No, there is pretty much zero chance of that. The terrain and endless spells are cheap little projects for their Chinese manufacturing arm. No way are they going to spend that much time and energy making all those variants for one single army like Cities. They will just come up with one single model/concept that matches best with the most amount of Free Cities aesthetic, and call it a day.
