Hey Dude, your STL is great!

These are not mine, yet. Dark Fantastic mills are an online scenery company that just previewed this as a new range. As soon as I can buy it I will lol.

The range isnt up yet, or price etc.

I think his armour is pretty unique from what I recall

Definitely not mine, all credit for those files go to black magic craft

Man, with all these waystones I feel like a sucker that I made my own ones now. All these are awesome, and your paint job is great!

by the way, does anyone know if Eltharion can be summoned to a set of armor? Or is he an entity in one suit of armor all the time?

  3. So after waiting all day to try it, I finally got a chance to work on my new idea.  I took retributor gold and covered it in the burning gold chameleon paint to act like a shader, and I have to say that though it’s not exactly a true color shift, I like how it looks!

    skeleton as the final test of this;

I like the blue on the weapons, I'll also try to have a similar effect, much like the Ziatrec soldier on their picture in the BT, for my models. The red you use is also a very nice color.

And the gold-green is different to what most other people are doing so I think it's cool. Gives them an interesting angle, which you also could incorporate into your background story for the army (if you do that). Fits well with Zaitrec, who could have some interesting enchantments on their armour.

I think i will try at least one more test model, this time with burning gold over retributor gold. The red is just contrast paint so it’s super easy to do, but the armor was a pain on the stormcasts, so I shudder to think what it would be like on the smaller lumineth. I am almost afraid to try one of them, but I will see. If the retributor gold base does work then it saves me like, three coats of black as a primer, so that would be nice. I may just use the gold on weapons and shields..

but otherwise, thank you! I just wish I could paint more with these guys, but I got studying to do!

@Wyliekyote good to see someone else doing the color shift paints too! Are you using an airbrush as well?

  5. Finally managed to get the pictures of my two testing guys. They may look better under different lighting, but I think they could be good? We’ll see I guess. Since ziatrec has retributor armor as a base, I went with green stuff world’s chameleon paint for the burning gold, and used storm casts as a test for the robes, armor and weapons.

plan is to use the azure on the spear tips, use the gold on the armor and use the purple / red as robes.

I was on the fence too for a while, but then I could buy it for 13€ on the app so ended up buying for the convenience

I got it just for the matched play updates. I went half a year without the GHB one and it pretty much ruined a few games when I didn’t know what I was doing but my opponent did. I think I would just buy a matched play update, but right now I do kinda feel like a sucker for buying the core gaming book....

sorry to hear, I had similar experience with the gold. you could perhaps consider getting an airbrush, you can get one for less than the lumineth box :)

if you do I think it would be manageable to use these paints for the armour parts

You warned me I believe, so I should have listened! Yea, I think the compressor is more expensive than the air brush, so I dunno if I will be getting one anytime soon. Plus, I’m in a medical program currently and don’t think it would be wise to get one with my student loans.

I may try on one of my guys just to see how it would look, as now that I let them completely dry the models look a bit better. I will say though, that shading utterly ruins the effect so That is something to consider. I am really excited to see how the weapons turn out those, as the celestial Azure looks really amazing for a weapon.

  8. Wellllll....

I finally got my chameleon paints from greenstuff world and I gotta say I'm a bit dissapointed by the Burning gold. It turned out a lot more greenish gold instead of orangy gold like advertised, so that makes me sad. But! The other paints I got are pretty nice, so I may be using them on the weapons or the shield or something. I may try to use it on one model, but without an airbrush I think I am stuck brushing it on, and the shoulder things on the wardens is fairly intricate. Kinda sad that I waited a month for those paints :(

Will post some pictures later when I can

So played two games with my LrL now (one loss vs cities, one win vs Mixed Death) and some things I have noted about the units so far (as I have run a mix of everything, list below)

    I am running:
    Zaitrec
    Light of Eltharion
Stonemage (General) Fast learner, Gift of Celennar
    Cathallar: Silverwand
    30 Wardens
    10 Wardens
    2 x 10 Sentinels
    5 Dawnriders
    5 Stoneguard
    Avalenor
    Legion
    Twinstones

    My breakdown so far:

Zaitrec: the +1 magic is really useful, but so far I haven’t had much chance to use their unique spell as I have other stuff I want to cast, plus the artifact/trait is meh. Might look at alt options

Light of Eltharion: very average so far. He died game 1 turn 3 to some demigryphs, and was shot off turn 1 game 2. His bubble is good for bravery, but without a better than 5+ FNP I find him to  be pretty easy to deal with. Might replace

Stonemage: lived both games, and taking assault of stone spell is useful. Main reason he is there is to support Avalenor

Cathallar: my main spell caster usually throwing out Eclipse and Protection. The battle shock ability has been good so far. Definitely a keeper.

Wardens: Love them. Yeah, they can be slowish as you don’t want to run/charge them unless you need to. With Ethereal/Protection and Legion on they can be pretty tanky. Good damage output also.

Sentinels: Good support and snipes like everyone expected. I might need more than 2x10

Dawnriders: not had much chance to shine. Died turn one both games

Stoneguard: Actually, been pretty useful. Though 4 mov, you can run them at least. With Avalenor giving them +1 attack they can be great support for 100pts. Might change my unit to 10

Avalenor: has been a mixed bag, but mainly due to my ****** dice rolls with him. Game one he soaked a lot of shooting attention and game 2 he did well enough.

Twinstones: great for the points and stable to my lists now.

    SO, what next?

I will probably keep the same list for another game or 2 to see learn the army more, but I kinda might drop Eltharion and then boost 5 stoneguard to 10, and the 5 Dawnriders to 10.

I am surprised to hear you didn’t like ziatec too much, as they seem like they have the most useful alliegence ability outside of ymetrica. It is pretty much the one ability everyone can use consistently every turn, and which can effect every turn of the game. I also think that overwhelming heat is a nice option, but I don’t think it’s the main draw of this army.

how do you feel about Avelorn’s -1 to hit aura?

What are peoples' thoughts on casting spells with Vanari units that aren't Power of Hysh? Initially I was really stoked at the flexibility of having so many spell choices built into the army but as I continue to think about it I find myself asking questions like "wait a second when would I ever want to cast a spell with my Sentinels that isn't Power of Hysh?" Or "do I really want to have my Dawnriders cast Speed of Hysh if they're gonna be running into a fight without their sunmetal lances powered up?"

Yeah 100% honeycomb them, and as many ranks deep as you can to keep within the 3” range but also making the line small enough to fit around cover and against an enemy unit, imo. And I’d chuck the High Warden in the front and in the centre so he can be in range with his sword and you can take dudes off either side of him. And I’d do units of 20 Wardens, 10 of everything else, but horses seem hard to judge for me atm, they also seem really good at 5 man too, possibly better at 5 man so you don’t struggle to get them all in to melee range.

Yea, honey combing is basically the way to play wardens. I think having the wardens out front would be a good idea, but it adds more “surface area” for the enemy to swarm around. I played around with a unit of 10 versus 20 skeletons, and having the warden out front just provides an extra little circle for the enemy to swarm around. Plus, I do not know how good his sword is, as it doesn’t have the mortal wounding thing. I think keeping him out front would be good for removing models so you don’t “accidentally” remove him from the squad like you would if he is in the back.

Also, I warn against playing cav in squads larger than 10. I play morrsarr in units of 9 and it can be a pain to get everyone in.

@Prince Tûrion Rilyalöce About the artifacts - slightly different for the ones in the Lumineth book. Cathallars and Alarith Heroes can take artifacts. I’m not sure if our customs heroes can get sub faction key words. If they do, your model could easily fit as a Cathallar. It says nothing in the book about the Cathallar Order not having also a warrior aspect to it. The model they gave us is a Scinari, which could imply there are non-Scinari Cathallars. And both the Phoenix Stone as well as the Blade of Leaping Gold would go nicely with your awesome model there.

If we can’t get such keywords in the end, then you’d be likely limited to generic artifacts- which doesn’t have to be bad. The Syar artifact would fit well  with your character for example, and would leave you more space for the background of your hero. You likely would also get the Realm artifact for example.

@ArchaicArc Nothing at all about that in the book. The Souls going back to Slaanesh seems unlikely, but they also don’t seem to go to Nagash, so it’s a bit of a mystery (or oversight, lol) what happens to them.

Yea I remember that there was nothing about aelven souls. Maybe teclis and Tyrion are doing a Waystone type thing like in the old world, where souls are drawn to certain places in hyish, or even drawn back to Hysh? I know not every army needs a way to keep souls from going to Nagash, but I would take any chance to flip the bird towards the Grand General of Boners

Guys I'm not sure whether this works rulewise but I was thinking if the balewind vortex works with Protection of Hysh we could have a nice 15 inches bubble for a 5+ ward save.. and what if we can combine that with the sanctum of Amyntok..  if one chooses Iliatha we can get a command trait..

So imagine a Stonemage with 8 wounds 3+ save which will ignore -1 rend, -2 to hit due to Amyntok and look out sir and the 5+ ward save which he will give 15 inches around him.. sounds tasty.. 🙂

And even with just the balewind we could have the spell on multiple mages and even if one gets killed we'll be able to cast it with another one..

I would have considered it more if the model was still around. Last time I checked, it was squatted, so I think that the balewind is going to be gone for good. It was a shame, as I never worked up enough courage to buy one!

Speaking of endless spells,i have been debating on what to take. I still think that the rune of petrifaction will be absolutely devastating, especially when combined with other spells like darkness of the soul, overwhelming heat and that gravitonic spell. Plus, we can plant it on objectives and make staying there painful for anyone without a glorious elven helmet. Still, the other spells like gravetide, gnashing jaws and life swarm really appeal to me, and may provide more benefit... I dunno which I want more!

The problem with this plan is that it plants the twinstones in your backfield. They only have a 12" range, and you are going to need to push in many battleplans. If it's a battleplan that enables turtling then this may work fine, but in many plans you won't be able to put the stones in your backfield and still benefit when you need them for your wardens (who need to resolve power on the turn that they plan to melee).

Well,   I do think it is a mixed blessing that the twin stones are a predatory spell. On one hand if we are going first the opponent can move it out of the way of our advance, which sucks, but on the other hand if we go second we can move it where we need.

A way way we can mitigate this is by having another endless spell act as bait, like the quicksilver swords or the Gnashing jaws, but then we may get damaged by those spells too. I would suggest using a spell like Geminds as bate, but that would mean there is a chance we could get debuffed, which would suck. Still, interesting to think about.

by the way, what do you think about using the darkness of the soul spell combined with Voice of the mountain? Darkness of the soul makes it so the target needs a bravery check on 2d6 for them to do anything, including fight. We can debuff the hell out of the enemy bravery with voice and aetherquartz, maybe throw in the ganashing jaws, and suddenly we have a good chance to lock down an entire unit, even if they are battleshock immune.

  15. @swarmofseals Your opinion on this is pretty good, and we should consider a lot of it, but I do not think the outlook as bad as you're making it out to be. (I could be wrong as usual, as I couldn't make outflanking deepkin work all too well with my terrible luck.) I think one of the struggles of the book will be to put our wardens in a position to benefit from the most buffs as possible, and the two protective buff spells will be key to keeping them alive. Whether getting those spells off is easy in the long haul of the game or not is something to be seen, but I think we have a place at the table in the top lists. We may need to play around to find out.

I really do not see why you like stoneguard so much though. could you enlighten me on it? because it seems they need at least a battalion, a mountain, and the faction to make them really tanky. again, I could be wrong, but I do not see taking them over wardens.

  16. 20 minutes ago, Miyokari said:

I am really in love with the army and everything that can be done with it, I am in love with everything including the models except one....Scinari Cathaller. Does anyone have any conversion/alternate ideas that can be done on this one model? I would gladly accept any tips on that :)

You could try and find an arch mage from old Fantasy in order to replace it, say it's from the same caste and maybe model the chalice / brazier on the ground next to them. Some other models I think I myself am going to use are in the spoilers, whether as wardens or as heroes I'm not sure.

@Adammck66 I have the same Dilemma. I think if I can spare the 20 points I'd go with Avalorn. 2 more wounds, one more attack is fine, but his real reason for being there over the base mountain is his aura that hits everyone in 12" rather than just 1 unit in 12". Makes the defense seem that much better, and he still hits like an absolute truck.

mate, you need to 1) use plastic glue and 2) try gel based super glue (the liquid stuff produced by GW is a nightmare)

    :D

I tried both, and let me tell you the results are always the same. I am cursed with super glue. I will be putting together the rest of the 4 with braincell killing super glue activator, which is the only way I can get results...

Also, anyone find any fluff in the book pertaining to the Idoneth besides telling the whole origin story?

  18. I hope this army sold well, but remember the larger release is set up to come later on. Since there is no real savings (from what I read anyways) then I think People could just be either waiting for 40k’s new book to drop or for the full release to hit.

also, my worst nightmare when creating my dawn riders came true when I saw the broken piece I found belonged to the Steedmaster’s model that I wanted. He was an absolute ****** to put together, and there is a small gap where the horse is supposed to push together, which will always make me sad when I see it. Sill, can’t wait to paint him, and really can’t wait to play with them...

i am cursed so that super glue doesn’t work for me, so I shudder to think just how badly putting Eltharion together will suck.

  19. So in reality, how dirty is the Voice of the mountain spell combined with the Cathallar's innate spell? Because holy carp, stopping one entire unit from doing anything over two turns would be great for the moment you wanna jump into the offensive, but I admit i'm going to feel like an arsehole when I do it. it's a dirty combo but it can change the bloody game.

  20. Man I am still waiting for my paints to arrive... I just hope it’s worth it! Also need a non- humid day to go and spray paint... I decided to do sub assemblies for each dude so I can paint the face and cloth easier with contrast paints, and not worry about trying to do full detail on each face.

@LuminethMage never considered a magocracy, which makes sense. I just want to know if there is one king and many princes like the old Ulthuan system of government for each nation, or is there a mage council for each city that rules as a governing body. I know it doesn’t matter in the long run, but it would have been nice to know about, especially during the spire fall event, whether or not the governments were the main cause of the mess or the individual land owners were. Maybe I missed something that said that, may have to re-read. How much the lumineth control now would be nice too, like certain boarders of nations / chaos territory, but that is something AOS struggled with for a while.

Yes I heard about the Court of the Blind King fiasco and it is making me anxious. :/
So far Zaitrec is my favorite. I always liked the Moon Conncetion as an Elven Fantasy Trope and the fact that they are overly fascinated by magic and like to research stuff is just so fitting for Hysh and a People who have something other/better to do, than to wage war. :) It is also nice that the Zaitrec-Realmlords seem so fascinated with the magic that it is bordering on naivety - and oddly I can relate haha :D

Also - quite a nice Paint Scheme!

yea you hit why I love that faction on the head. I can also see them being the "Nicest" lumineth you can meet as long as you are a wizard or wizard-adjacent. They may treat you like an idiot or a child, but they will at least see what kind of magic you can do and be interested in it while treating you like a toddler.

Also, I must say that it is pretty amusing that our faction has a noble goal (cleanse land with burning light and stop allowing chaos to punch holes in things) but we do not do it so nicely, or really with permission. I guess the Lumineth are so smart that they think everyone can logically think through what they are doing, but forget that not everyone has the same train of thought.
