How are people’s July’s shaping up? We got 1 week to go! @Kramer how many crossbow stormcast do you have left? @Eldarain hows that elf eizard coming along? And @hughwyeth you working on the enlightened?

Props to @Kamose for that big bundle of bray love.

Yours truly has a tzaangor mutie to finish. Almost there, just all the metals left... ... And starting to work on next month’s challenge, converting a bucketful of Tzeentchian Marauders!

Haven't had any time to progress on enlightened unfortunately! Hopefully this week I can get a few hours in though. Been great to see others' progress on this thread though!

For example, The Blades Edge is a great scenario with 6 objectives. The player who goes second chooses to remove one objective from the battlefield. Great mechanic imo. Forces you to make a tough choice. What's your favourite?

I've played Blade's Edge twice now, and it's really fun. Going second is a really powerful thing in this scenario as you dictate the whole direction of the game. Choosing to go first on a round take a lot of thought. First time I didn't really realise this and decided to go first to try and get someone off an objective which wasn't too effective.  Second game i decided to go second every turn (lucky priority roles!) and found it to be a really powerful position to be in. Take up a defensive posture on your home objectives and just remove opponent's objectives 1 by 1. Bog them down on one objective with 40 ghouls in one turn, then pick that objective to be removed- they just wasted 3 units for an objective that's no longer there.

  3. It's strange how bad it is really. I subscribe on both iOS and android but don't mind because it's cheap. It's an app with such basic functionality- it's, at most a 1 day a week coding job to maintain the whole thing for 1 person, if that. I really don't understand why it's so buggy and out of date. Pretty much the only reason I have it is because it saves lists and the warscrolls are really easy to access.

If you look at something like AoS Reminders- it's pretty much bug-free, works incredibly well on any platform and is pretty much up to date.

What do you think? I’m struggling with the champion.
Just dry fitting my hunter conversions.
just simple reposing things. But the first three I built are kind of exploring the jungle. And the bases will be built op to interact with the models a bit.

first one is looking in the compass, kneeling in the undergrowth. with his axe lodged in a nearby log to free his hand.

the second one is pushing his way through the undergrowth. Needs a right hand from the pallador kid. But I don’t wanna wake the baby by rummaging in the attic 😅

third one is already falling apart, but he was leaning against a tree looking around that corner. Tree will be replaced though.

but then the champion. These are all just Exploring not being detected yet. But the only thing I can think off without really cutting up his legs is this...

impersonating an Elf assassin. Crossbow arm will need to repositioned as if he is rotating to strike.

i think I can make it work... but would it break with the others to much?
or any suggestion of other exploring poses?

I love these poses! Nothing to add really!

You have no idea about 40k lore if you think the Imperium has any kind of general racial or gender based policy. Actually the Inquisition is probably the most diverse of the empire's organization with a ton of female inquisitors since Rogue Trader, the same goes for his army the Imperial Guard, the navy, the Assasins Temples, etc.... The only gender-based organizations of the 40k Imperium are space marines and sisters of battle, Sisters of Silence and Adeptus Custodes.

The same goes about race. Why would a 40k human care about the colour of your skins when theres a thousand worlds with all kinds of people coming from everyone and you have actual aliens that want to kill you?

I'm not saying they have a gender policy. I'm saying the imperium is a straight rip-off, hierarchy, titles, beliefs and all, of medieval Christianity at it's most hate-filled and intolerant. Calling for greater diversity doesn't make any sense in that context. The gender segregation referred to sisters and marines, not the whole imperium.

It's weird that armies don't just have female and male models in every unit. Board games and RPGs are popular with girls. I found it bizzare coming from a lot of board games a few years ago that sigmar had like barely any female models and people were still trying to say the one or two female armies existed when someone questioned why this was lol. Like saying "play dok if u want female models" is super stupid. It's just as bad as people saying play sisters in 40k lol. People shouldn't be limited to one army, gamestyle and aesthetic.

You know- i half agree and half disagree. I really like diversity in armies just for the different aesthetics, totally separate from any social/political agenda.

But at the same time, what makes 40k interesting is it is a riff on medieval christianity. GW have toned this down in Space Marines quite a lot, but it's still there in sisters and the inquisition. A super vicious, ignorance-encouraging, hyper-violent, other-hating religiously fervant group of soldiers, with a ludicrous hierarchy of men in silly hats. I mean penitent engines are something straight from the inquisitorial imagination of 16th century catholic spain. Part of this imitation is it's attitudes to "others" (xenos) and it's strict gender segregation. In that sense, a male-only army makes perfect sense in that lore and i don't think it needs to be made diverse, save for racial diversity perhaps. I don't want a racially and sexually diverse Imperial Inquisition. It's like saying WW2 wargames should have a racial and sexually diverse german army (for some reason the shorthand for nationalist socialist democratic party is censored on the forum?) .

Like I've said before, AoS is great because it leaves fantasy tropes behind and there's huge space to include diversity without going against the narrative of armies. After all, Khorne cares not from where the blood flows. I'm just not so sure the same can be said of 40k.

Something I'm a bit confused about...

    Why the need?

The factions in Warhammer are armies. Fact is, armies are predominantly male. The U.S. army is only 14% female and the U.K. Army is only 11%. If we include more female models, this will not be like real armies.

Now, I get that Warhammer is fantasy, not reality. "These aren't real armies, so there can be more representation than in real life!"  But in Warhammer, aren't these armies led by strong, beefy men going to be, essentially, protecting the women and children?

They could be doing it out of chivalry, or a belief that women must be protected so that they can lead in the cities and empire themselves. Additionally, some armies simply cannot be imagined with a female counterpart. Can you imagine a female orc? I can't ( though this will certainly lead to someone finding a picture of a female orc).

However, I will agree that a lot of armies would benefit from more diversity in race.

I think the strength in AoS is it can leave behind a lot of these fantasy tropes. To see how angry people were that GW dared give elves hammers was disappointing for me. It's fantasy, why do we need to maintain 70 year old tropes? Every single other wargame system maintains the tropes, if you want high elves, chose literally any other company. Thank god GW is daring to do something different. A fantasy world where a huge mix of genders and races fight together in one unit is actually pretty refreshing, entirely seperate from any representation agenda. Give me a unit of katana wielding female dwarves!! Give me a unit of bearded, muscly, hammer wielding elves!

  9. I'd be interested to hear what people from a non-white background think. I think it's of very limited use for white guys (myself included) to postulate on what other groups want from the hobby. Do they even care? I know I've read a couple of accounts of daughters of hobbyists seeing the female stormcast on  a box cover and exclaiming "they have models that look like me!" which is a great sign of how the hobby is progressing.

As a hobby, i don't think it needs to be held to the standards of diversity we expect of public bodies and companies. Whilst it's important our own government represents the people they govern, a hobby based around fantasy characters is of little consequence. I think the representation of a broader range of peoples in the hobby would be great because it just makes the ranges a lot more interesting (new SCE are a great example), but ultimately it's the behaviour of hobbyists towards other groups which matters far more than the models they make. I know some hobbyists who aren't of the majority group in the hobby are entirely unconcerned with representation in the miniatures themselves as long as they don't feel ostracised from the hobby because of who they are. The worst form of corporate PR is when they pander to a zeitgeist because it will make them look good, rather than investing in a longer term, and more difficult goal, of promoting inclusiveness and a community that welcomes everyone. That comes across as cheap marketing to sell more stuff rather than a genuine interest in improving inclusivity. In that sense, any diversity in the hobby is up to us, the hobbyists and store owners.

Mass Blightkings ftw... Don't even bother about casting anything :D

Blight cyst and Max blightkings in all variations... 20,15,10,5... Swarm objectives and hope your 240 wounds outlast the opponent...

Ah damn wait WHO got like 50 to 60 Blightkings Oo???

I got 20 on sprues and 10 painted. BKs are great. Shame that even at 110/300 PBs are ******. They need a new warscroll desperately.

Still no good update from me :(

Although the progress that everyone’s making is so awesome :D

hopefully I should start to have a bit more time to get in with hobby coming up, only issue is that I’m having to give up my hobby space for more home office space, damn you Covid!

Trying to sort out some kind of portable hobby station for the time being, and then a longer term plan of setting something up in the attic (it’s properly insulated and floored!). Any suggestions and recommendations are welcome

I got one of these - https://www.hobbyzone.pl/en/tables-for-painting/14-paint-station.html. Perfect for a single project- all the paints you need all fit in.

Yeah, I'll take any improvement for SCE. Let's start with point reduction, and then make us demigods we supposed to be with new battletome.

Absolutely this. They need to do for SCE what they did for space marines. One moment SM were terrible- weapons that were uninteresting and a troop unit that was unremarkable compared to any other troop unit. Now they're much closer to how they're portrayed in the narrative. Their weapons can be AP/Rend -2 on a standard unit!

When you read about stormcast, the armous is made FROM SIGMARITE ORE HARVESTED FROM THE HEART OF THE OLD WORLD THAT FLOATS ABOVE AZYR, CRAFTED BY THE DUARDIN DEMIGODS THE SIX SMITHS. THEIR WEAPONS ARE INFUSED WITH THE ENERGIES OF ONE OF THE SENTIENT STORMS OF AZYR. Hmm, what should their stat line be? 4+ save, 2 attacks 4+/3+/rend 0/1 damage, bravery 6. These guys should be incredibly powerful. 3+ save minimum. 2 attacks, 3+/3+/rend -1/1dmg minimum, bravery 8 minimum.

    Perhaps, same letters ;)
Btw, for the plaguebearers (if they change the points) I can't see them at the same level than 3 nurglings 😅

Yeah i meant PBs. But honestly point drops won't fix it. The battletome was great when it was launched but needs a refresh rules wise. Lowering points still makes Nurgle difficult to play with and hard to match up with newer battletomes. I also think GW look at points for units they get feedback for. People have BKs, so they're lowering BKs because people are asking. No-one's playing with plaguebearers because they're hilariously outdated now. I mean compare them to Tzeentch's basic daemons- pink horrors- they're way way way more resilient, despite tzeentch being the fragile chaos faction and nurgle being the most resilient chaos faction.

Keep Plaguebearers at 120/320, but revamp the warscroll. Make the save 4+/4++ to match phoenix guard and keep the non-existent damage output. Make the minus to hit available for smaller unit sizes. Then they might start to be useful.

Just checking as I just got the model.

Am i missing anything on Astreia Solbright? Just a Lord arcanum on Gryphcharger with a worse warscroll spell, more limited command ability, but a slightly better combat mount?

And vs the lord arcanum on Dracoline it's no challenge imo if you're also taking dracolines.

Yeah it's not good- i play as generic LA on Dracoline, but she's not great in-game. But it looks great! Especially next to evocators on dracolines.

Okay, so I have the best girlfriend ever. But she doesn’t get ‘clearing the backlog’ as a concept.
last time I bragged that I finished all my KO and got Brokk. Now I told her about this tale of warlords challenge, and how it would clear out all my stormcast...

I painted this when it came out, such a nice model!
