  1. Exactly that, in one on one duels weapon skill absolutely makes a difference, but its a different skill set in a massed melee, you arent fighting one person, you are fighting half a dozen and its harder with a great sword because your buddies are more spaced out so you can swing them, which means their numbers count for more. Your attention only goes so far and your weapon can only be in one place (shields help!) and then its just hitting a body, which is pretty basic Id actually argue individual skill is almost irrelevant compared to leadership and morale, but thats an entirely different type of system really which is well off their design brief lol And yeah, templates suck in battle games cant be said enough
  2. Yeah that was my first thought, BS is a terrible mechanic and a red flag that they are choosing bad design to appeal to misty eyed nostalgia, (See also, templates) you can modify 3+ just as easily as 4, its just a worthless extra step for new players. Id also argue (from experience) in a massed melee its absolutely not much harder to hit a master swordsman or a goblin, just stab them when they arent looking at you, its the basics of fighting in lines Not very relevant to the shooting phase ofc The plethora of special rules isnt ideal either having spent half the weekend swearing at the abysmal special rule layout of Heresy second ed, im hoping they have learned from those mistakes though!
  3. Especially as the project has been openly ongoing for years, i cant imagine they only took one afternoon on rules for all that time, if anything id suspect there have been a few versions of TOW in that time that changed due to playtests or creative/corporate direction shifts.
  4. I mean, if they are drawing on all of Warhammer, Chaos has been the most varied across the span in how armies are constructed. Id love a return to the warband system, but that seems unlikely as they are listed separately.
  5. A Mordheim expansion to Warcry would be great, the actual Mordheim systems are pretty jank these days but its design, atmosphere and campaign system are essentially what everyone remembers. Plus we would get new Nightrunners! (Pained lols)
  6. Loads of people collect models and never play the game, the games are really just the main marketing department for the company.
  7. Prices for Oop models are vastly inflated by their scarcity. They shouldn't mean things get more expensive when re released! Remembering Warhammer armies were often north of £500 back in the day, I can only hope they cut some prices as that was one of the millstones round the games neck... And they are already competing against enough as is!
  8. No new core troops but some new elite unit directly ruled out by the old fluff sounds like exactly SGs style at this point tbh
  9. It'd be weird for Bret's to be lacking all their elite knights at launch, especially with plastic foot knights instead (boooo) they are like a slightly poop Empire army?
  10. I doubt youll ever see Gotek getting more FS, he was pretty disgusted by them on his arrival, dunno if that changed in later books?
  11. With it creeping closer to the release, the website changes and a bevvy of potential and actual leaks they havent addressed yet... Im expecting a single hero reveal, anything else is a bonus
  12. Yeah plastic is at least fixable easily enough! Id almost certainly go historicals if i built a Bret army, i was deeply considering it at the start of 8th edition as i fancied a cavalry army, but then i realised id have to paint all that heraldry... Then it was goblin wolfrider tribe until i costed it up (and i got trade prices as a shop owner at the time...) and had a little cry and eventually went for Chaos Warriors, easy to paint and small lol I did hear recently that FW model these days should never have the old style bath of release agent to wash away and should be good to go straight from the packaging, but ive definitely had a few issues with it in the past myself!
  13. You can also trim off the side of the base and just glue it on top of the new base shape too, depending on what you use to base them the first time, bit of filler and some texture paste blends it in surprisingly well though you end up a little taller If you think you want to use them for both, and adapter movement tray system as @Neil Arthur Hotep suggests can work too, but it does lock you in to certain formations.
  14. Yeah i definitely preferred the Design decision that Bret knights always ride horses and left the peasants largely to their own devices as a contrast the the Empire's more combined arms doctrine. I guess they are trying to do new/old things to make them more popular at cost to their character. They cant have been unpopular just because GW ignored them for years *eyeroll*
  15. Its almost certainly Marine scouts v Some kind of Eldar, early rumours were fairly definitive on Striking scorpions (Who have long been able to come in squads of 10...) with an outside chance of Exodites creeping in recently.
  16. Maybe if sales are wildly over predictions? I suspect a big part of the selling point for GW is that all the design work is already done and the moulds already exist. I could otherwise see them revising models once theyve been round every army and sales are good, though i suspect the first "stretch goal" would be the new armies they did for the computer game.
  17. Plus we havent seen the full context yet, this might just be a new Pegasus knights kit or multiple characters, or SOP for OW releases. Hell it might still be a prototype they arent planning on releasing like the dwarf command sprue i saw again recently, we just dont know yet.
  18. To be fair to Valrak, anything past a couple of months isnt set in stone and can end up moved around all over the place or even cancelled entirely, thats why i was surprised at how accurate that big 40k leak ended up being but even that had things slightly wrong, i suspect based on production problems or whatever behind the scenes. Like, Hastings saw Angron years before he came out in the end but he got knocked back a few times.
  19. Its been a while but they werent free at Adepticon but bundled in a swag bag affair as i recall? I think the Incarnates would have done better if you could just buy them alone rather than coming with a huge terrain bundle you might not want, certainly our group sounded enthusiastic about them as we had a gaming weekend when it was announced, but if anyone ever bought one they never saw the table. Though monsters, or anything, available to every faction do have to be carefully written because they can combo with jusssst so much, i think they definitely erred on the side of caution with this one too, which probably didn't help.
  20. Yessss, finally the gutter runner band on its own
  21. Yeah it does feel like the really strong narrative of second edition has fizzled out completely in third, just the problematic (and worse, boring) Dawnbringer crusades after a little bit of tidying up early on. Im hoping the end of edition campaign gets a rocket up its backside, the epic, rolling metaplot was a major selling point of AOS for me and some of our group.
  22. Id personally love to see those godawful early Stormcast redone to current standards, its essentially what every 40k box has done since forever after all to some extent so there is plenty of precedent, even the Primaris stuff is just replacing the hobbit marines somewhat obliquely. And obviously Skaven, Skaven really need a solid wave of stuff to pull the range out of the 90's (THE NINETIES) in places and a starter followed by the usual ETB etc etc would do a big step towards that. Though isnt the pattern leaning towards Order v Order for the 4th starter?
  23. Yeah after a few years of teaching people to paint their first model, big flat areas are a lot easier for them, we arent talking at aiming for great results here, or using the whole range, just getting a solid result the absolute beginner is happy with and at the time, the Space marines got much better results than the Empire spearmen. Though id agree as a fairly experienced painter id pick the Empire soldier every time
  24. The clarification is good for my brain @LordSolarMach as i definitely remembered them being Tomb kings in Warmaster, lead by Mummies and chariot focused and all
