I would really, really love the Warpgnaw to be worth taking... it's hard to justify bumping him up the production queue when he's been nerfed to his current point.

What do you think about our upcoming 2 new entries: the Fomoroid Crusher and Mindstealer Sphiranx? (ouside the fact that the miniatures are amazing of course 😉 )
I am going to get L O N G B O I one way or another and I'm no StD expert but his abilities make him quite useful, I think. Making someone fight last plus a Bravery debuff seems really handy to me.

If one's partner makes a contribution to one's hobby it should be embraced, as should Spyro! Not everything is about colour theory 😁

Okay, so someone had an idea on reddit that I just had to explore so what do we think of a REAL skaven TIDE?
Greyseer on bell w/suspicious stone, death frenzy, and master of magic
Clawlord on horror w/verminous valor
Clawlord on horror w/savage warlord
Verminlord warbringer
Stormvermin ×10
Clan rats ×40
Clan rats ×40
Clan rats ×40
Clan rats ×40
Clan rats ×40
I can drop the verminlord for a second grey seer on bell and the vermintide endless spell because I know just one won't have enough aura to keep all those rats from running. Alternatively I can drop one clawlord for 10 more stormvermin and then either buy an extra CP or turn the verminlord into skreech or one of the other higher cost lords.
I love how versatile skaven list building is really. The idea behind this is more fun than competitive but a double death frenzied block of stormvermin and 200 clanrats just seems like a LOT of fun lol.
Thoughts?
Ask @Skreech Verminking, he's your
manrat. -

I dunno man, I think you may be looking at things through rose-tinted glasses. There have always been naff big-money games, and things were especially egregious before the games industry developed any sort of scrutiny- back in the late 80s and 90s if a game wasn't finished, it never got patched or fixed, you were just stuck with it. Capitalism getting its claws deeper into gaming just means that the industry's worst tendencies are amplified with its size, and, as ever, you can still find a thriving community of interesting and original games in the indie scene. On PC, try browsing rockpapershotgun.com, they regularly showcase smaller, more innovative material which has greater opportunity to thrive on PC than it would in the walled gardens of the consoles.

I dream up AoS-as-Dawn of War when I'm struggling to get to sleep. Much better fit for AoS than Total War.
Also I forget who said it a page back or something but it's not elitist to suggest that self-identifying "gamer" communities are poisonous places.

I applaud your "no unpainted models" stance, and wish I had the courage (and painting time/motivation/discipline) to do the same myself.
Re: Acolytes vs Stormfiends, surely one of the things to take into consideration is that thirty Acolytes are going to be tricky to obtain, whether because of the absurd expense of buying them or the fuss of converting them. I'm pretty dedicated to converting them but I've still only got about 20 sorted after two years.

Really liking the red armour! I don't think I should be giving any advice about painting generally buuuut if I had to say something I might question the purple on the Karkadrak- it doesn't stand out as well as it could because it's too similar to the (lovely) red of the armour.

I have to agree with @JackStreicherwhen it comes to Chosen- as someone who only picked up Slaves because of the gorgeous new models, I'm not really very interested in much of the older finecast stuff. This is Chosen's real flaw... they just ain't shiny and new enough compared to the lovely dynamic Warriors and Knights in the SC box.

A Skaven SC box with no Clanrats...? Not the best choice, tbh, but if it gets a Skaven SC box into GW shops again then whatever.

It was the team event run by @Chris Tomlin last month - @Ben ran a team that came third! I ran a team and we didn't come last!
Did you play the Roll Models/Minis Monthly team? Was interesting listening to their team coach's debrief on that event.

We might have playing this all wrong around here. But isn’t it: deploy the battalion as a whole OR all as separate drops.
(because as soon as you deploy elements in your battalion, you can’t deploy the whole battalion because parts of it are already down)
I agree that this is how it should be, but in the Core Rules, it says:
QuoteDuring set-up, you can set up some or all of the units from a warscroll battalion at the same time rather than setting up each unit individually.
(No idea if there has been an Errata or Commentary on this.)
I fear this means you are allowed to tease out your deployment and then race to the finish line just ahead of your opponent.

Look, if you want to be a Luddite, fair play, I don't want to take anyone's printouts or books away. There just needs to be better integration of material digitally, because when you charge for stuff like warscroll cards and then massively edit them without offering replacements, that narks your customers. Just as you don't want to have to look at a screen, I don't want to need loads of extraneous bits of paper, especially when I've already shelled out for a beautiful hardcover book. If rules are going to become more mutable- and that's a good thing- then the format for delivering them needs to be more flexible too. I love the warscroll cards, they're one of my favourite things about a new release, but it irritates me when they then become obsolete because of changes. Far better to have it on a tablet or a phone in that sense, though this comes a distant second to actually having an accurate physical thing in my hand.

Makes me wonder what they're going to end the year on. The front half is shaping up to be fairly fantastic!
Please, god, it's only February, don't start wishing for December, I can't take it.

It really is a very oddly targeted book all round.

you print off your 1 or 2 pages of Errata/FAQ and lean over the shoulder of the store copy of the GHB to update your handful of points and you're done.
This is somehow more complicated than, "use an app on the phone that almost everyone has".

Well I will be posting the finished (tabletop ready) Chaos Lord in the January thread tonight, so I finally achieved a pledge!!! At last!
I think if I can maintain my momentum I can manage my next pledge, but I'm keeping it small.
- finish Arch Warlock
- five Chaos Warriors
It can be done!

The eternal problem with named characters. A much as we all like to see the story move forward it would be a remarkably bold decision by Games Workshop to announce on the last page of the book that either Katakros or Archaon, or even both, had bought the farm and you were no longer allowed to use their respective hundred quid models in games anymore and in fact you were now required by lore to buy a £25 Warhammer branded hammer to smash them into little pieces.
Let's face it, that wouldn't be too far off-brand for the company that convinced us that a plastic tub of sand cost a tenner.

Precisely. Putting aside the points efficacy of the Warpgnaw, the whole fiction of him is that because he's spent so long tunneling through the cracks in reality that he can act as a guide, albeit a mad one. With his rules now, he can... come out of the same hole everyone else does. Great.
On the table, his utility is limited to letting you use the gnaw holes twice, except it has to be him. There's some use to him but way less than there was before the battletome release. His damage profile is nice, sure, but something as big as this boy isn't going to stay undamaged for long- he'll hop down his damage track before you can say "splinter-scream".
