  1. Yeah this was what I was meaning - a dwarf empire of independent holds/nations held together because they are the same overarching culture, but distinct within it. The way the old Empire in WFB had Karak Kadrin, the hold of Slayers and Zhufbar the home of the engineers. Coming back to this brother- I think you misunderstand me. I love KO and would love nothing more than them getting another 6 kits, they are a jaw dropping range and I love their culture. However the sense in the winds are that there will be tome which covers all the dwarf nations, not what I want but that won't change the fact. So I'm trying to look at the positives- that we are getting potentially a new/fresh range of dwarfs, that KO have such a strong identity they will be going nowhere , [indeed I think they will have a strong hand the form of a new book covering the disparate dwarf empire]. I believe GW will return to KO and Fyreslayers in time when the release schedule allows . Looking at Bugmansson and Dagnai KO definitely seem to be a rich design ethos for them. So I'm not wishing for a combined tome, I'm merely looking at as positively as possible as there's nothing tome done to change it. I could see GW combining more factions like that too- in terms of Knife ears- Sylvaneth will likely get Kurnothi/wanderers added, Lumineth I think would stand alone, I think Idoneth would actually join in with DoK and Malerions aelves as they seem more like the blackarc corsairs with their raiding. I also don't expect Idoneth to get a big update this new edition, I might be wrong. Maybe Tomes will becoming larger to accommodate more content if more forces share a book. I'm probably more Clan Optimist to your Clan Cynic but I think we both love KO to the same extent. On another note GW appears to have made a big deal of Grungni being back as a major player - I wonder if this means a new dwarf faction will get more attention like the Lumineth? I'm really excited to see classic dwarfs made for AoS, as much as I love the Hammerers and Ironbreakers to me they belong in the old world and I've missed classic dwarf feel for AoS [as utterly cool as KO are.]
  2. This is important - GW isn't going to drop cool things from the lore- AoS was designed to allow them to do more things. KO and Slayers sharing a book with new classic dwarfs just means for now they don't get anything new. I'm a longtime dwarf player/collector and therefore a pragmatist. The release schedule doesn't allow for expansions to those ranges- dwarf wise we are getting a new take on the classic dwarf schemes [not to mention seraphon, CoS, Skaven, BoC all needing refreshes]. Also I think many are forgetting their heritage - KO have their roots in the dwarf hold of Zhufbar which was the seat of the Engineers guild and had fleets of gyrocopters and bombers as well as all sorts of other technology. Slayers had the hold of Karak Kadrin - so the old Dwarf Empire had a place for these different cultures- just In AoS these themes are turned up to 11 and turned into bigger cultures. A new tome will allow you to add more duardin elements to your army if you so wish, if you don't - then don't and field pure forces. No need to tear your beards out over this. I'm certain GW will revisit KO and Slayers in time, but just not this time, instead we get to witness the resurgence of broader dwarf culture and we can celebrate that and if not join in, then certainly fight alongside our revived kin. Evidently Gotrek and Grombrindal are going to be special characters in the new Tome- I wonder what/who else we will get, what new war machines will be added and what the new armoured might of the Dawi will look like. Rune weapons for all..heres hoping...
  3. Na- its pure Dawi- reforging a pure element into a fresh form- Grombindal is less Grungni's avatar as he is his son. Honestly its a great story really well written - pure dwarf the whole way through. I read it as the Duardin Underworlds, like their holds, were hidden and well defended beyond the reach of Nagash, so therefore intact. Not sure how it relates to Gazul though .
  4. I think as well visually a new/fresh AoS dwarf faction could link the armies better as well. Warclans mashes old and new armies together. A new dwarf army sharing something in terms of design cues could look really good- like the ancestor war masks.Plus they would have the same scale and shape as each other. Gotrek looks excellent and looks good alongside the modern sculpts but he is neither Fyreslayer or KO. I agree I'd hate to see KO to become like a specialist faction, but I think we should just wait and see how they mould it. Hopefully we get to keep/enhance their individual flavours in a combined Duardin Nations book- there could be fresh art and stories for themas well and for the lore/art we still have our old battle tomes. I'll admit I'm not a gamer currently more a collector but I always love the themes of the army shown in the rules. Also could be a bigger book to accommodate more stuff.
  5. Yeah the idea of the old school dwarfs turned up to 11 is very appealing [and I love my KO]. Just to say that the Grungni story in WDis really great- how the Dawi are shown, how Grungni behaves and shows his power are fantastic. Very interesting that the Dwarf Underworlds are inaccessible to Nagash and that he knows Grungni is hiding something for him and is "cheating him like the others".. The KO and Slayers not getting an update is a bit disappointing but I think its just the pressure of updating all the ranges - I think dwarf wise we are getting new Grungni/Grombrindal dwarfs and chaos dwarfs this edition. KO and Slayers might be more of next edition. The Grungni story celebrates both factions so I don't think they will be diluted/lost over time. I think 3rd ed will be good to the dwarfs!
  6. its from the latest WD short story.. I have to say I caved and bought WD for the first time in years just for this short story and I wasn't disappointed. Its a great read in terms of both the quality of the writing and the story itself. In terms of the future of dwarfs I am HYPED! Yeah I loved the story, how the different factions were depicted and also how Grungni was depicted . Yes this was interesting Nagash couldn't reach the Duardin Underworlds and knew Grungni was up to something.. Yeah the whole depiction was excellent I thought. Its such a great piece of writing -I haven't read the earlier stories but id be really hopeful the set will get published. I don't worry about Fyreslayers or KO losing their identity, I think its just for this edition they won't get much of a model edition - GW are going to concentrate on the renewed dwarf faction and probably chaos dwarfs. They do that well they can come back to KO and Slayers in the next model cycle. Very excited as to what the future holds for Duardin!
  7. Oh anything could be coming just nothing has been lauded to -not even a Grombrindal model so wait and see. They might be a way off anyway so could be ages before we see anything. But don't think its out of the question for KO or Fyreslayers to get a model or two under a Duardin Nations [I hate calling it soup] release. And as someone said the design of new Duardin could sit them very well beside KO and Fyreslayers so might not be the disappointment many are expecting. The current dispossessed don't sit incredibly well beside some of the new stuff but they are older kits with a different design ethos. bets not to lose hope just yet.
  8. Yeah I haven't anything suggesting new models for Fyreslayers, just that Duardin Nations will be a thing .. we are all assuming new Duardin models but lets not get too far ahead of ourselves.
  9. Yeah I thought it looked pretty good for the Iron Jaws.. Pretty cool that Grimnir is just out there chilling until he fancies coming back... Yeah Valaya, or even the mention of her possible return would add a lot to the duardin pantheon. I really love that actually -rather than the gods themselves their Avatars make a lot of sense, plus both those characters have a lot of love from dwarf players/collectors. The prospect of a Grombrindal model of the same quality as the Gotrek model is an excellent possibility .. as my old mate Harry used to say BRING IT ON!
  10. Ha- I still have that Army Book and that model! Yeah I have high hopes - especially if they are approaching it from the "uniting the factions" point of view- it could work very well visually. The KO models have a really nice scale and I'm sure there will be similar elements in the design of the new dwarfs - like ancestor war masks [different nuances in design]. Be great of you could swap across the ranges. I painted my KO in a similar scheme to my old dwarf army could work really well.
  11. I actually ran out of reactions when I got to this!! Yeah I really hope Grungni, after rearming the stormcast has kept the best stuff for his own people. Would love to see some new dwarf sculpts retaking the Karaks , definitely would not say no to a new Grombrindal model or Grungni either. I'm hoping his return has been seen as such a big deal that dwarfs get a good release not too far away [early 2022?]. If they made the new faction Lumineth sized that would just be golden.. grudges to be settled big style.. Very tempted to buy that WD just for the story, I really hope they bring the collected stories out as a novella or something . I agree KO would be great if separate but I can handle them sitting beside their brothers, they could get some models as part of a larger dwarf release. Excited to see what the design team can do with dwarfs now, the recent KO character sculpts have been amazing and even those new stormcast give me ideas of what new dwarfs could be- heavy elaborate armour with ancestor faces .. big axes.. proper cannons... I may need to sit down...
  12. Oh that sounds good -especially if they get Kurnothi as part of an expansion. Any of them building dwarfs??[Grungni dwarfs will break my wallet..]
  13. Nurgle v Sylvaneth would be in line with the lore.. would love new dwarfs to be an early release though I doubt they would sit against nurgle forces.
  14. Hope everyone is getting the stuff they wanted.. its not my thing so I'm not after it. Did note that Darkshpere have sold out but are advertising a second winter release of Dominion so sounds like availability is good and you will be able to pick it up later if you miss out on this wave.
  15. I hope they release a black library compilation of these White Dwarf/Grungni stories soon they sound great.
  16. Yeah that all makes sense. The only shame is that GW really should have come out and explained it like that, publicly, I think fans would really understand - 4 times BSF [which is still available ] and selling out in an hour is amazing . Hopefully they can communicate this and what they hope to do or can/can't do with the game including expansions [which should be viable given they sold so many copies]. It should encourage them that a fantasy boxed game is well worth doing again in the future.
  17. Not necessarily - I'm not sure they would simply port over dispossessed into a new Duardin Nations book, I think its more likely to be brand new dwarfs in a reclaimed kingdom or reclaiming kingdoms. Kurnothi and nature elves would be a new thing. They could still have different types of elves and duardin in Cities, it all depends on wether they see Cities as purely human forces in the future, which they could well or they could see it as a blend of mostly humans with others in smaller amounts. I'm pretty excited at the prospect of new dwarf models if Grungni rearms and reorganises the dwarfs to take back their lands with KO and Fyreslayers adding to the cause. Cheers! Not sure if they are discussing the rumours that are already doing the rounds or just adding their confirmation, probably the later.
  18. Hadn't seen anything - was Atia or Bob saying anything? The rumours have been around for a while and I think they have weight. Actually WhiteFang has been strongly suggesting Dwarfs are getting a shared battle tome around new Grungni dwarfs [I think I may be misrepresenting him]. If the dwarf new models are going to 2 faction s in 3rd ed they seem to be Grungni Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs , I'd rather a good combined book with new art, new lore [and there will be as this would be a new development] and new dwarf models rather than just getting anew book for a faction. but I'm a modeller and collector. Plus there's nothing to stop GW releasing Ko or Fyreslayers models under a combined tome. For the depth of lore/art you still have your old [the current] battle tome. Kurnothi are coming, I think Whitefang again hinted that it will be combined - like Athel Loren reborn so Tree spirits, kurnothi and re imagined wanderers in one. Its a little sad but it makes sense with so many factions now In the setting with a few more to come as well. Hopefully the new Battletomes will be a bit fatter, filled with content.
  19. yeah I was thinking they could be a set of battle zone books like in 40k for updating rules and adding to factions in between battle tome releases.
  20. One of the most striking parts of that artwork for 3ed that was released was the Kharadron fleet overhead - it had clearly new ship designs- a larger ship and a massive one In the background. Kharadron are so strong a visual in AOS I can't see them disappearing or diluting. IF there is a combined duardin tome with a big model release I expect it be an AoS version of classic dwarfs but KO and Fyreslayers could get models too- the "big model" could be a larger KO ship for example, they could also try out something new for the Slayers. Really looking forward to seeing what they do for dwarfs - having seen those heavy paladins for Stormcast I could see them doing some fantastic heavy armour for dwarfs with ancestor faces and rune weapons. Plus the return of Artillery!! If they can keep or expandKo and Slayers within a Duardin Nations big fat book I'll have less of a problem with it. We still have the existing lore in any books that it replaces and that leaves space for new lore and art to come in. [Just to say obviously I'd prefer separate books and model releases for all the dwarf factions but if that can't happen I'm looking at the positives].
  21. That Artwork is amazing!! Love it! There are definitely some new Kharadron designs there - ones with extra endrins and different hulls, the frigate shape appears at the front. Hope they are in the works... Definitely looks like dwarf proportions to me rather than GSC, maybe squats??
  22. NOT PROPER DWARFS I think first battle tomes form an Order perspective could be Sylvaneth or new Dwarfs - both seem heavily mentioned on the build up to AoS3. Maybe Chaos Dwarfs as they are being mentioned in rumours now?
  23. Well that was interesting - love how they have pushed the designs forward for these factions- the Orruks have loads of oldschool references which I like plus a touch of The Hobbit Orcs as well. My favourite thing was the Troggoth -looks excellent and the Stormcast wizard lady with the mask looks awesome. Neither faction is my thing but it looks like a great set and really pleased to read all the enthusiasm for the new models. Very interesting with the hints of the Chaos Dwarfs - though we don't speak of our fallen cousins they would make. a nice counter balance to Grungni's return [hopefully with a new/refeshed dwarf faction].
  24. I'm kinda hoping the extra surprises might be glimpses as to what's coming for the edition beyond the launch box.. maybe a small sighting of new dwarf stuff.. But I'imagining the set itself should be a belter- maybe a man crusher, wolf cav.. troggoths possibly..
  25. Loved the stuff about Athel Loren regrown and reborn and Grungni revealing himself. Hope for new Grungni dwarfs to kick ass and settle grudges as well as Kurnothi finally showing up.
