  1. Some of those leaked rules seem a bit incongruous. (If it was from a playtester, GW probably know which play tester has leaked it). Even if it is legit, unlikely this will be the finished version of the new edition. Pinch of salt recommended.

Tbh Chaos Dwarfs were the most AOS faction in old Fantasy times. So not too much Change is needed.

I agree, I’d like to see something that plays direct homage to the 4th edition models personally. Just love them so much.

  3. Interesting observations regarding the Era of Beast timeline @Clan's Cynic. When the Necroquake broke, I was starting a campaign in Ghur. I ended up changing the story to fit that event. (Wasn’t a problem though). The Era of the Beast definitely feels more sandbox which has been good for my campaigns. I have noticed they have slowed the passage of time too - realmgate wars over about a 100 years, Necroquake about ten years (if I recall correctly) and so far Era of the Beast has crept forward less than a few years (?). I wonder if they are deliberately going to a model that advances the plot through new editions? Easier for everyone to stay up to date on the timeline the way?

P.S. Getting my narrative plot kicks from Warcry, we are getting close to arriving at Talaxis now…

    P.P.S love the lizards!

  4. On the old models thing, I love those old Bretonnians and Tomb Kings. I think they are really cool. Up close, yes I can see the things that could be improved. As armies, I think they both look fantastic. Probably nostalgia but if any new models don’t look the same as the old ones I think I will be disappointed! 🙃

  5. Nice idea, my advice would be to go through the 800+ cards to finding the closest thing to what you are after. Perhaps a steam tank could be a counts as Kharybdis? Perhaps a Helblaster Volleygun could be a counts as a Skaven Stormfiend. If you need to use a card from another faction, perhaps you could port the appropriate reactions and abilities to make the game more tactical? Let us know how you get on.

  6. Louise Sugden, what a talent. GW management need to lift their game big time. It might sound funny but growing up reading White Dwarf made the hobbyists you read about feel like family. This was the best thing about Games Workshop. They have almost completely lost sight of this.

Am I the only one who actually prefers the look of the original Stormcast compared to the Thunderstrike armoured ones?

I did initially but the new designs are really clicking with me now. If and when I start collecting Stormcast, I think I’ll go full Thunderstrike - with possible exception being the heroes.

  8. Thanks @NinthMusketeer, I have heard this elsewhere. I noticed the the branches of gnarloaks are often modular - perhaps I'll build my next batch with this issue in mind. I decided not to make any special bases in the end. They seem stable enough plus it saves me some time if I leave them as they are. Next job, get the paint brushes out!

  9. Not sure @Gitzdee but with over 800 units in the game even if something doesn't get new rules there is likely a suitable model you could proxy. Interested to find out the answer to your question, wonder if there has been anything in White Dwarf?

  10. Wondering if anyone out there has any opinion on mounting gnarloaks on small MDF bases, (like one base per tree)? I was thinking they seem pretty well balanced but gluing them to some MDF might reduce the chance of them getting knocked over mid game.

I think they look pretty nice as they are though. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

  11. I like the new designs too. Understated, just what you want for the rank and file so that the more grand elite elements stand out. Really happy my existing Freeguild guard will work fine as stand ins for these guys too.

These guys have great character too, well done to the sculpter!

  12. I use to think in a similar way to the original poster but one day it all just clicked with me. I think the lore is fantastic. Some read about all the high level cosmic-battle-of-the-Gods stuff that was different to the Old World and think that's Age of Sigmar lore. It's so much more than that. For the average man on the ground, life is as mundane as any other. One might go through life without so much as a glimpse of a Stormcast Eternal much less someone like Teclis or Morathi.

Black Library is a great place to go for a lore deep dive. I recommend City of Secrets, Dominion and especially Hallowed Ground as great ways to learn and get inspired. I've only heard good things about the Soulbound RPG too.

The 6 month season on the other side is a bigger problem, with my busy year outside of playing I only managed a handful of games before needing to change all my army lists...

I've given up on keeping up with the General's Handbook battlepacks too. It's not that I am against them but I'm just not playing regularly enough to want or need a shake up every six months. It is nice that other ways to play are recognised by the three ways to play system - I don't feel I'm being corralled into playing the latest season which is a good thing.

  14. Is it really not popular I wonder? Cursed City sold really well but the forum here for it never took off. I do think the game is still building its audience though. It’s getting some positive coverage from influencers such as Atom Smasher and Sam Lenz. Perfect game for school games clubs. I am hopeful for its future.
