  1. 8 of 15 daemons based! ****** the pics were dark, sorry!
  2. I thought this as well, but actually the Asp. Deathbringer bubble might not be so superior after all. If you only cover 5 Skullreapers, the extra dmg output from the Exalted Deathbringer (equipped with MotD for 7, 9 or 10 attacks), still comes out on top, and it doesn't require a command point either. If you cover 10, then sure, more attacks, but will you get them all in b2b contact? Compared to a single character. Important anecdotal data: Last weekend my Exalted Deathbringer bravely ran up to a Vampire Lord on Dragon and chucked his spear into that skinny belly, finishing him off and getting me back into the game. The Dragon was newly bloodboiled and down to 4 wounds, but still! Mortal Wounds come in quite handy against a Mystic Shielded 3+ save that ignores rend.
  3. I've been using him with great success, especially as a counter-charger - he is squishy but has 2" range with the spear, so put him behind your other troops. I don't really see the point in giving him Gorecleaver though? I've been giving him Mark of the Destroyer (or "Crowncleaver" as the Skullfiend Tribe version is called), as I prefer a high minimum number of attacks instead of becoming even more reliant on 6+ procs. I run a Juggerlord general though who tends to race around the battlefield quite a bit though (especially to ninja-summon daemons on enemy objectives). On top of an objective in a Goretide army, with 7-9 attacks getting to reroll wounds, I reckon he'll be particularly deadly.
  4. Another modelling question: Anyone have the diameter of the top floor of the Altar? ie. where the Slaughterpriest is supposed to stand. 3-3,5" pretty much correct?
  5. Thanks @kahadin however, I just remembered I had 20+ old Dwarf shield lying around, so I made a mockup using some Bloodreaver blades and spikes. Looks pretty good, I'd say! Like it way better than the standard Gorefist, atleast.
  6. Bladed shield, kind of like a buckler then. I like that idea, looks like it's eBay time
  7. Yeah, I have the multipart set so I can do that if I want. However it's more work and, most of all, I really don't like how they look which is a big part for me haha. Are you 100% sure the foot marauder shields are the same size as the horse marauders'? Yeah we're pretty open about equipment etc here, as long as it's not long-term (ie new battletime which makes other equipment better...) or the entire army. However I might go to the odd tournament and don't want it to become too much of a discussion. So you think bucklers would be closer to how Gorefists work compared to a dagger then?
  8. Modelling query: As I'm re-modelling my Bloodwarriors to have something to counts-as Gorefists instead of double Axes, I'm juggling two options: 1) Snip one Axe and put a huge dagger there instead (probably from the Bloodreaver sprue) or 2) Snip one Axe and put a buckler-ish shield there instead (probably scavenge eBay for marauder horsemen shields) I'm leaning towards option 1 as it's much more convenient. What do you think about a dagger representing a Gorefist though, compared to a buckler? How have you guys dealt with this? /Bjornas
  9. So, today's games. First, my army: Beastmen: My opponent played an unorthodox list with Shaggoth as a general, 6+3 Enlightened on discs, and 15-20 Razorgors (!). The razorgors were rarely more than a nuisance though. He ran up to the middle objective (we played Focal Points) on the first turn with two of them and 6 Enlightened, who killed most things that I threw at them - 3-4 Skullreapers, Juggerlord and Exalted Deathbringer all fell to them thanks to my crappy save rolls. I had also made the mistake to place the Khorne Altar in such a way that it blocked much of my entrance to the middle objective. At the end of turn 3 (points 8-10 in his favour) things started to look more in my favour though, I had killed a dozen razorgors, blocked off or neutralized most of his summonings (Bloodreavers earned their upkeep by hugging the back field since turn 1), and started to push towards one of his objectives with my largely intact 15 man Blood Warrior unit. We had to call it at that point since he had to leave, but I think I could've snagged the victory had we continued. Death: He got a pretty mean first turn where 5 Knights and the Vampire on Dragon charged in on my right flank. I managed to keep the objective there until turn 2 though. On my left flank I charged 20 skeletons with my 15 Blood warriors, however they were pretty crippled by the -2 to hit spell and didn't do much (also wasn't able to put Bronzed flesh on them, see below). They got eaten up by Skeletons, Arkhan and Curse of Years basically. My Juggerlord ran up to some Graveguard and summoned 10 bloodletters behind them, capping the objective. Turn 3 I got a double turn and managed to blood boil the Dragon (which was at 9 wounds), this brought him down to 4 wounds and my Exalted Deathbringer could then move in and finish him with his 7 base attacks. Boom! I also capped his other objective with my Skullcrushers, bringing me back into the game. I had wiped most of his army but on his turn he got 40 skellies, 10 Graveyeards and 5 black knights back and managed to retake one of his objectives and cap one of mine with his knights, using some pretty liberal/creative piling moves. Undead players are quite adept at that in general, I find. We had to call it at turn 3 again, not sure how it would've ended if we had kept going but at this point it was an exact draw (we had some extra points criteria as he was prepping for a tournament). Thoughts/lessons: -Deploy the characters AFTER all the units are out, in particular the Bloodstoker and Slaughterpriest. This may sound like noob advice, and I am by no means a very experienced player, however it needs to be underscored since the bubbles are so tight now. And goddamnit, plan a turn ahead. -Make sure you don't cripple yourself when you deploy the Altar consider the objectives. -Maybe Goretide is better after all. Hurts to say since my army is from Ghur fluffwise, however there were many points where I saw the potential for the Goretide abilities. -Juggerlord might be better off with more attacks (such as Mark of the Destroyer) than the Gorecleaver. When he wounds with a 6 it's cool, but he only has 3 attacks. 5 Attacks base could make for more reliable dmg output. -Slaughterborn, still my fav batallion.
  10. Thanks for the tips @Broken Netcode @Ravinsild @Kaz ! I've read your pointers, extremely useful stuff. I'll try to do a writeup of the games tonight.
  11. Cheers! I know he'll bring 1x40 and 1x20 skeletons for starters, plus some knights and other stuff. I reckon just try to ignore the bigger blocks since they can come back? Gonna be a challenge to kill Arkhan, especially since I'm only using the Hex skulls and not the Axe, but it's gonna be a good learning experience regardless.
  12. So now that we're back on! If anyone's got the time to read this, I've got two games tomorrow against Beastmen and Death (Arkhan, Zombie Dragon, Skeletons), using a Skullfiend Tribe mortals list. Any advice you can give me against these armies will be much appreciated.
  13. Has anyone tried blocks of 15 BWs yet? 20 seems a bit unwieldy, but I'm considering trying a 15 man block as a proper anvil, with Slaughterborn batallion, Bronzed flesh and the Bloodstoker buff they should be able to hold the enemy front for atleast a round while the rest of the army catches up. I know they'd be better off in Goretide, but I'm not giving up on Skullfiend tribe just yet
  14. Bronzed flesh won me todays game, you had me panicking there for 30 secs until I checked the book
  15. Umm no, says +1 to save rolls. *Wholly within* 16" though
  16. Hey guys, I know there are a lot of lists being posted here but I'd love some feedback on what to exchange the Chaos Warriors in this list for. The rest I'll keep as it is for the time being, but right now I'm struggling whether to switch the CWs for BWs or try to squeeze in the Axe instead of the Hex skulls. Suggestions? Skullfiend Tribe Lord of Khorne on Juggernaut 160 -Artifact: Gorecleaver Exalted Deathbringer -Artifact: Crowncleaver (+2A) Bloodsecrator 140 Bloodstoker 80 Slaughterpriest 100 10 Bloodreavers 70 -Meatripper Axes 10 Blood Warriors 200 -Gorefists 10 Chaos Warriors 180 ~will eventually upgrade these to Blood Warriors, or something else? -HW/Shield M Skullcrushers 180 -Glaives Khorgorath 100 Khorgorath 100 Skullreapers 180 Skullreapers 180 Slaughterborn battalion 180 Hex skulls 40 1980 / 2000
  17. First! I hereby pledge to Paint 2 (!) Bloodletters Base 10 Bloodletters + 5 Fleshhounds Paint + base Hexgorger Skulls Convert & build my own Khorne altar Bonus: Basecoat 5 Fleshhounds
  18. Yeah you may be right, just pointing out that the skulls are atleast somewhat reliable to cast and they have a decent footprint for blocking units aswell, regardless of the effect.
  19. Unreliable indeed, atleast the axe. I played Khorne vs. Khorne a few days ago and we both used the axe. My opponent managed to keep his from disappearing for four rounds (thanks to keeping his priest nearby), while I only got mine off on the first round and that was it. Remember the Hexgorger skulls are 3+ to cast though, I think they'll be our best bet in the long term.
  20. I also played them like this with the previous book and will do so now as well. I also feel my army has gotten stronger in general (after one game). While not fast, atleast we can move outside of an 18" bubble now and we have gotten good magic defense. I think the Slaughterborn batallion will be great for this playstyle. I'll be using the Skullcrushers as a countercharge unit, together with my Juggerlord. I'll also be keeping the Ex. Deathbringer nearby, behind a Battleline unit and poke the enemy with his spear (using the Skullfiend Tribe you can get him up to 10 attacks).
  21. Sorry for quoting myself but I just realized the Spear has 2" range, which means he can actually stand behind another unit and poke the enemy with these attacks. Damn!
  22. I used Gorecleaver on my Juggerlord and gave the +2A weapon to my nearby Exalted Deathbringer with Impaling Spear, which meant he had 10 attacks while close to the Bloodsecrator. He only hit 4 of them however and died immediately after, but still!
  23. I played a Khorne vs. Khorne game today using the Skulltake batallion, and sorry @Ravinsild but I think we're gonna have to let it go. While it works pretty much the same as before, might even be slightly better, IMO the Slaughterhost is simply a better pick now because the benefits are static - they don't rely on having a Hero babysitting the entire batallion like Skulltake does. I think any bonus that does not rely on "wholly within" for us now will be gold. I might try Skulltake for 1-2 more games but for now I'm definitely leaning towards Slaughterhost. The Axe Judgement was pretty brutal btw. Not just the damage but the board control it offers - the base is huge and it definitely impacts your movement planning. I one-shotted my opponents Slaughterpriest with it on turn one but he had two...
  24. No but with the Goretide bonus, one unit could. And that'd be damn fast. Just not sure I want a unit to spend an entire turn isolated like that.
  25. That's still only one unit you're catapulting away though, and a modestly hitting one at that. If playing mortals with the old book taught me anything, it's to keep your front line intact.
