  1. Thanks, this is helpful! I’m using a necromancer in my list, do you know if you fail the bodyguard roll, can you still use deathless minions to prevent the wound on the necromancer afterwards? Thanks.
  2. Sorry I see it now: Q: In section 14.3 of the core rules, ward rolls are made to negate a wound or mortal wound before it is allocated to a model. However, many units in the game have abilities that trigger when a wound or mortal wound is allocated to a friendly model. Can I use abilities that negate allocated wounds or mortal wounds after a ward roll? A: Yes. … So that means you could roll for amulet of destiny and deathless minions?
  3. Would you guys mind citing/ explaining which part of the FAQ changes how ward saves work? I’ve had a look and can’t seem to find anything.
  4. Thanks for the heads up, sounds like something I’d be very likely to do! (Hope your wonky(ier) skeletons look ok! 😊)
  5. Haha oh dear, looks like I’ll be having lots of fun with tiny parts as I ordered the death rattle kit. I’m actually using them as a unit of 20 grave guard, because I like the models and it’s convenient and money saving that they come in a box of 20.
  6. Hi there, I have a modelling question. Can anyone tell me if the kit for the cursed city Ulfenwatch skeletons is the same one as the new death-rattle skeletons? I like them both, but I’m trying to tell if there’s a difference and if so what?
  7. Ok, thanks, that makes sense. I think I was just imagining more like big two handed swords than what they have in the kit. The models aren’t terrible, but I think there’s loads of room for improvement.
  8. Ah great, I couldn’t see them on the GW website or in any of the pictures. Thanks 👍
  9. Im thinking of grabbing a box of grave guard, which I’m aware are older models. I’ll probably only ever use the great blades however, and it doesn’t look like there’s an option for them in the kit. That bothers me aesthetically. Can anyone confirm this?
  10. Thanks for this! that cleared things up a lot… coincidentally that was the exact situation that occurred, so ‘The Hunger’ and your answer meant my VLOZD survived! 😆👌
  11. I should have been clear that my post was strictly taking a competitive perspective. If you enjoy running double dragon lists for other reasons by all means do that! Swapping Vhordrai for Mannfred could work, as could swapping the regular VLoZD for Mannfred. I assumed that from your level of detail and general perspective, and although I don’t play competitively I still like to build lists that work. In my last game running VLOZD and Vhordrai together worked well, I managed to stack buffs from red sword and rousing commander on Vhordrai and a unit of blood knights, after using vhordrais CA on VLOZD. Situational but it was very effective. Despite that your breakdown gave me some alternative considerations and I will test Manfred out and see how he works in the list. Cheers!
  12. Really detailed and useful post! I’m currently working on a Kastelai/ blood knights list. Currently running. 4 x 5 blood knights Vhordrai VLOZD (red sword and rousing commander) 30 x deathrattle skeletons 3 x fell bats. I really like running the two dragons together for flavour and fun, but have considered replacing Vhordrai with Manfred. Do you think that would be a good option? Thanks.
  13. Hi everyone, Question about the units catagories for battalions: My friend wants to use a Lord Arcanum on gryph charger (wounds 7) to fulfill the "Comannder" role in his Warlord Battalion. However we're unclear on the spcification for "Commander" as it simply says "leader". Does this mean it can be a leader of any wounds cost? "Sub-commander" is a leader with under 10 wounds, so does this mean any leader you use with less than 10 wounds is automatically considered a Sub commander, or can it alternatively be used as a Commander?... the wording doesn't make it very clear. Thanks.
  14. Hi. I'm playing SBGL using the command trait: Rousing Commander: Once per battle, at the start of the combat phase, you can say that this general will rouse their warriors. If you do so, until the end of that phase, friendly KASTELAI DYNASTY VAMPIRE units wholly within 12" of this general benefit from the Bloodied Strength and Stolen Vitality abilities from the Might of the Crimson Keep battle trait above (if they have not already gained one or both of them. (Stolen Vitality: Add 1 to the Wounds characteristic of that unit.) My question is, if a model is left on 1 wound at the end of combat phase, when rousing commander ends what happens... does the wound charcterists go back to the orogonal warscroll and the model is left with 1 wound, or does the model die? (and why?) Thanks!
  15. Wow, that’s hefty, I didn’t know it existed. I’m playing Kastelai, and using the red sword artefact. Your numbers suggest that the Lance is probably the best option regardless though.
  16. Good point… I'm playing now and already think it’s nice when pulled off (I managed to charge a unit of blight kings with VLOZD turn 1, both units survive, be within range of Vhordrai and win the double for turn 2), but as demonstrated too circumstantial to be relied upon. Probably best to just load up with the Lance and charge around without having to worry too much.
  17. I meant +2 attacks if using Vhordrais CA to attack in the hero phase as well, situational, but thought it might be a good option. Good point on the combat phase, I hadn’t thought about that. I’ll test them both out and see which I prefer.
  18. @Neil Arthur Hotep Thanks for the insight. My current thinking is that I want to try and get the most out of Vhordrias CA allowing the VLOZD to pile in and attack in the hero phase and maximise the potential. If triggered with the sword I’d get 2 extra attacks over the Lance, which I thought with flaming weapon would be good value. Also the red sword artefact (+ 1 to wound rolls) triggers when the bearer kills an enemy with a melee weapon, so I was leaning into that… I’m a bit of a sucker for synergy. Relying on charges with the Lance might be the better option, however I thought it would be cool and wanted to see if I could maximising the potential of having them both running around; Vhordria charging with the Lance + high rend, VLOZD with high number of attacks, good damage and “auto” buffing. After coming from playing LON (sacrament) I do want an army that can play with independent strong units instead of having to blob everything together and rely on buffs from low wound lords, so your suggestions may play better into that. What do you think? (I’m giving Vhrodria pinions, but will consider it for both, because flat + 6 movement rocks).
  19. @Eldarain thanks, that’s a good point… also I misread the battalion and thought it could include 2 monsters, so thanks for correcting that. I’ll play around with the last 75 points and see what works best. I’m also not sure whether to take the sword or lance on VLOZD more attacks seems nice with the flaming weapon/ Kastelia buffs, but the charge bonus for Lance is hefty.
  20. Hi all, This is my proposed Kastelai - Blood Knights army. I'm yet to play AOS 3.0, but looking for something fun, fast and fairly hard hitting. I always wanted to play with 2 x mounted zombie dragons and with new rules I feel like Vhordria and VLOZD work really well together. I'm considering taking one unit of 10 Blood Knights as oposed to 2 x 5 for a more survivable unit, and was also thinking of using emerald lifeswarm to help keep things alive (Also makes the army 1 drop) as oposed to Fell Bats who are just there to fill up points/ grab objectives. Skeletons are there for a tar-pit unit of bodies and objective camping. Any feedback apreciatted: Allegiance: Soulblight Gravelords - Lineage: Kastelai Dynasty - Grand Strategy: Hold the Line - Triumphs: LEADERS Prince Vhordrai (455) in Battle Regiment - Lore of the Vampires: Amethystine Pinions Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon (435) in Battle Regiment - General - Command Trait: Rousing Commander - Vampiric Sword - Artefact: Sword of the Red Seneschals - Universal Spell Lore: Flaming Weapon UNITS 5 x Blood Knights (195) in Battle Regiment 5 x Blood Knights (195) in Battle Regiment 5 x Blood Knights (195) in Battle Regiment 5 x Blood Knights (195) in Battle Regiment 30 x Deathrattle Skeletons (255) in Battle Regiment 3 x Fell Bats (75) CORE BATTALIONS Battle Regiment
  21. What do people think about Lance vs sword if using flaming weapon generic spell lore on VLOZD… I’m also thinking of running him alongside Vhordrai so will be using Vhordrias CA to allow VLOZD to pile in and attack twice during the hero phase? (A bit more niche and situational but what do people think in this scenario?)
  22. Cool, thanks for the update! that does make the ability somewhat better.
