Curious what you summon most times with Allariele?  Thanks for posting about this!

It really depended, to be honest, on opponent and scenario. I think most frequent would still be dryads, just cos 20 is so good. But if playing a big monster, it would sometimes be bows, whilst if there was a lot of high armour in the opposition then I would summon scythes. In one game I even summoned a Treelord...

@Lhw I’m very interested as to how you play your list!

What tactics or play style do you use?

Im a Dreadwood player (went 4-1 in my most recent tournament) so I’m all about  taking control of turn one, controlling the board and taking out a key unit :D

Basically set up shop in the woods, Alarielle sat within 6" of two, surrounded by dryads. You are on the objectives so enemy has to come to you. Use Alarielle to take out support characters, dryads to win the grind off, then in the end game alarielle can be a beast. All alongside this you have the Phoenix just being immense and debuffing everything or slowing stuff down.

I’m going to be running a similar list just using this list . Any tips on playing the list?

Not sure I rate the Ancient in there, truth be told. Outside of Gnarlroot he seems overpointed.

The list I was playing worked on taking position turn 1, then drawing enemy into the woods. Dryads deal with hordes, magic and Alarielle with big guys. Plus Phoenix is sheer filth.

Sylv came 8th at Blood and Glory using Winterleaf Wargrove with Alarielle, a Frostheart Phoenix, and 70 Dryads. A bit different from a lot of lists you see out there, though not unexpected since it plays missions well and has good internal synergy with summoning and a solid Anvil in the Phoenix (which will often be a 2+ or better save).

This was me. It was great fun. Full list is below. It's very tanky, as you say, but it's also surprisingly killy. I got 8k kill points in total, I think. Dryads can kill when generating additional attacks on a 5+ and re rolling to wound.

I also could have come 2nd if I wasn't an idiot in the final game, on stream ?.

    Allegiance: Sylvaneth
    Branchwraith (80)
    - General
    - Trait: Warsinger
    - Artefact: Acorn of the Ages
    - Deepwood Spell: Regrowth
    Branchwraith (80)
    - Artefact: Ranu's Lamentiri
    - Deepwood Spell: Verdant Blessing
    Alarielle the Everqueen (600)
    - Deepwood Spell: Throne of Vines
Anointed Of Asuryan On Frostheart Phoenix (280)
    30 x Dryads (270)
    20 x Dryads (200)
    10 x Dryads (100)
    10 x Dryads (100)
    Forest Folk (140)
    Winterleaf Wargrove (90)
    Chronomantic Cogs (60)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 2
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 108

  5. Great summary by Isotop there. I know the stats show that Swords are better, but whenever I think about how I'm using Hunters, they're normally in cover and often my own Wyldwoods. Cos they plant their roots, as Yoshiya says, I think they would normally not get all of them in if I took Swords, but with Scythes they do.

No. The ability just says all units for flitterfuries there is no disclaimer that it's otherwise.. it's an AoS ability.

Even for squirmlings I don't think line of sight is needed myself it says pick a unit and that is all that is relevant.

My reaction to that argument would that you are right.

It's not an ability. It's a missile weapon. It's listed under her profile as a missile weapon.

My last addition and a some more food for thought would be a quote from the core book itself:

    "Most warscrolls include one
or more abilities that can be used
by the warscroll’s models during a
game of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
    Abilities take precedence over the
    core rules." (Core Book, pg.:238)

This was the leading argument at the start of my latest tournament.

Where in Drycha's rules does it say you ignore LoS? That would be the ability taking precedence. Just because it doesn't mention something, doesn't mean it ignores it, if it is in the core rules.

  8. It's a good point, @Isotop, as the Medusa has the same wording - it mentions visibility. I just think that purely because they do mention it, doesn't change the fact that the core rules now say that missile weapons need line of sight, which is what this is.

I'm a Sylvaneth player, so it's not as if I have an agenda here. I love the idea of sitting Drycha in woods spamming out mortals, but just as it is, I don't see any evidence suggesting her missile weapon ignores the core rules for missile weapons.

@Lhw The warscroll states "When she attacks with her Colony of Flitterfuries, roll 10 dice for each unit within the range shown on the damage table."

Perhaps we'll see an FAQ or rewording, but for the time being, I'd argue that it doesn't require line of sight.

It's listed as a missile weapon. So it has to follow the rules mentioned above. In the same way that you can't run and use it - it's down as a missile attack, so it has to follow all the rules of a missile weapon. I'm afraid I disagree with you and @Isotop. Think it's clearly covered under the core rules. If it wasn't listed as a missile weapon, like the dragonbreath ability or Heraldor, and was merely something that happened in the missile phase, I'd agree.

  10. @romhi the core rules say:

    "MISSILE WEAPONS
In order to attack with a missile
weapon, the model using the weapon
must be in range of the target unit
    (i.e. within the maximum distance,
in inches, of the Range listed for the
weapon making the attack), and the
target unit must be visible to the
    model with the weapon"

It's listed as a missile weapon on Drycha's profile. It may have been played previously as not needing LoS, but I guess it came up less then? Now, with Wyldwoods rules, probs more likely to happen. I really think it clearly needs LoS.

Thanks @LHW.  One other question with respect to the Woods roused by magic.  Is it only the wood that the spell was cast near, or all of the woods on the board if a spell is cast?  I'm thinking the first but not sure.

Think it says a a wood within 6" of the caster in the rules.

Hi all, I have a rules question.  Playing my first game with Sylvaneth tomorrow against Seraphon.  Probably get my teeth kicked in simply because I'll forget a bunch of cool stuff.  That being said.  My question is for Drycha's Colony of Flitterflies...does this need line of sight?  The way it reads in the book I would say no, I haven't seen anything in FAQ about it either.  "10 dice for each unit in range" seems like it is just a bubble.  Thanks for the help!

Hi Lenny, I think it does require line of sight, unfortunately. It is listed as a missile attack, and in the core rules a stage of using a missile attack refers to needing line of sight.

Yeah totally misread the +1/+2. Forgot that didn’t apply. That’s what happens when I theory-craft late at night!

The number of units you can redeploy is the entire army though if you play it as a one drop. The FAQ is clear that an ability that says “a unit” like where it says “a dreadwood unit” in that redeploy ability actually means “any dreadwood unit(s)”. I assumed it meant 1 until I read the FAQ

That's really not how it's worded. "A" means a single unit. Unit is singular, for it to be multiple units, it would need to be unit(s).

Otherwise it would be the most amazing battalion in the world.

When the opportunity exists, also interested in trying Spirit of Durthu + Drycha as a combat-threat duo, to try and take advantage of Durthu's Solemn Guardian + Ethereal Amulet + ideally Mystic Shield. On a 4+, wounds to Drycha could be allocated to him, and taken on 3+ ignore rend (+ potentially RR 1's).

Since the ability says "...causes a wound...," I'm guessing mortal wounds would not trigger Solemn Guardian? Normally the warscroll would say "wound(s) or mortal wound(s)," but this could be an instance of warscroll writing that's incongruent with their more refined, consistent writing in recent battletomes.

I was doing similar with durthu and alarielle with my old list (durthu with ethereal). Pretty certain it's just normal wounds, it'd have to mention mortal wounds to include them. Still a useful ability.

I'm away from my book, but afaik the Wyldwoods will still try to kill anything not-Sylvaneth regardless of whether it is allied or not. Is there a specific Ironbark exception that fixes this?

The idea I had in my head was putting them in a wood in/near your own deployment. If you walked them in, then they wouldn't need deadly tests. Might be an issue with magic casting nearby though, I agree.

  16. @dmorley21 I'm starting off with Ironbark, so think it could work. I agree, I like the idea of 20 Ironbreakers (If you can get them into a Wyldwood, that should be a nice combo!) I actually would combine them with a Runelord - the 6+ ward save on them is cool, as is the boosted dispel, especially now it's 30"!

The only thing I would note, is these will limit you elsewhere. I don't know what else you fancied taking, but I would put aside Alarielle, for example.

    Treelord: 240
    Tree Revenants (2 x 5): 160
    Branchwych: 80
    Ironbark (inc Household): 180
    Ironbreakers: 280 (I think?)
    Runelord: 100
