  1. If I was looking to start FEC on the cheap, how would you go about building it? 3x Start Collecting, Archregent, Throne, Endless Spells? Extra unit of Ghouls to summon? Resulting in 2-3 flying monsters, core of 3x Ghouls, bunch of flying big guys? Just noob things.
  2. Hi, This is a question that came up in a game last night. Screaming Bell 12 lets me summon a Verminlord within Peal of Doom and outside 9" of an enemy model. There is no statement about it counting as movement, nor restricting the movement of said Verminlord. I can't find anything in the rulebook or FAQ preventing it. The Gnawhole for example states that teleporting counts as movement. So.. can a summoned Verminlord be placed ridiculously far, then take a walk and charge? Seems a bit good, right?
  3. Okay. I know nothing about how FEC work, but I love the Terrorgheist model. How does the army work? What would you guys recommend for starter lists, preferably with big smashy monsters? Shopping list for 2000pts?
  4. I thought about BCR and Eeels, but they both seem to be pretty common. I went to (but didn't play in) a tournament on the weekend. Most populous armies were Nurgle stuff and Eeels, plus lots of Empire. There was one Skaven player which was weird. I'm basically looking to get a decent 2K list really cheap. Cheap, elite, easy to physically handle and reasonably competitive. But I don't really know what factions do outside of Skaven. I mean, I played WHFB back when Alessio Calvatore's book was a thing. What's that, 2005? What armies do I like the look of? FEC looks like it's 3x Start Collecting, a character and a couple Ghoul units. Looks like <500 AUD. Really they're the #1 candidate for me, because the Terrorgheist looks amazing. They however, seem to have a stigma attached to them. Easy painting project. DOK look cool, I get the feeling that they're kind of Druchii with more of a Witch focus. Lots of bits and pieces I recognise. I don't know what an actual army is comprised of, though. Nurgle. The giant flies, plastic plaguebearers and plastic GUO look awesome. Great project for contrast paints. Again, I don't know what models are used in an army. What do general Nurgle lists look like? There's a lot of different allegiances right? Khorne. Blades, right? A combination of mortals and daemons? It'd be an excuse to do red dudes on snow bases. Slaanesh in general. I'm super turned off by the price tag of the Keeper of Secrets. They also have a stigma attached to them. Gloomspite Gits. Squigs and stuff. Looks like goofy fun. But I suspect I'd be walking into another hoard army, except with green dudes instead of brown. It's interesting that Skaven are apparently considered top tier, yet people actively enjoy playing against them.
  5. I'm somewhat new to AoS and I'm currently painting a Skaven army. I'm enjoying playing them, but handling the army physically is kind of a chore on the table and it's going to take a while to get done. I'm thinking about picking up something with few models but I don't know the rest of the game. What armies are.. Cheap, mid-low model count, somewhat competitive and also fun? FEC is the obvious choice, but people don't seem to like them. Ideas? What would you put in your suggested army?
  6. Is there anything preventing a Verminlord summoned by the bell moving/charging/casting? I rolled my first boxcars tonight. =D
  7. Ah, so it's basically the same logic as Clanrats. Max unit = spears. Min unit = blade. More dudes, more attacks. I haven't even seen anyone use the Endless Bell, yeah. I run a Verminlord/Belly- I kind of have battleshock immunity down.
  8. What Endless Spells do people actually use? I just got my tax return and I'm thinking about picking up Malign Portents. I picked the Skaven ones up like days before the Vortex got nerfed. =p I also keep seeing people reccomending taking Plague Monks with a pair of Blades if you're not using a Furnace. With All Out Attack available now, letting you reroll 1's., probably not worth it. I've played a couple games with Stave and Blade and the volume of attacks is really high. I don't plan on taking a Furnace, so I'm thinking about replacing the Staves with Blades. But it's probably a waste of time.
  9. I have not, but that sounds sound fun. I actually ordered an Arch Warlock and a Ratling Gun yesterday. I'll proxy another two and give it a shot.
  10. So game last night was interesting. We played the new GHB mission where the single objective teleports around. I had two turns where I only managed to cast a single spell. Just couldn't roll 6+ on casting rolls. Was awful. I got off a Warp Lightning, but dropped Warpgale, Dreaded Warpgale, Crack's Call, Wither, Death Frenzy and whatever the Magic Missile spell is called. Wither/Crack's Call is kind of ****** against that opponent though, as both W and MV values are very high. I speedbumped the initial charge and kept his giant lord/a unit locked down so my Plague Monks got the charge. Over two turns they ate his lord and a unit of big ogres on mounts, even though the lord halves all damage. I think even with the point bump, Plague Monks might be amazing. I'm actually tempted to get another unit. I need to remember that All Out Attack is a thing when dealing with units with that volume of attacks. His lord got to swing on my Warpseer and did it like 9 wounds even though it wasn't a charge. Though 4+ rerollable, 5+ 5+. Vermintide did like 4 mortal wounds all game. I think I'll drop it and take Chains or something. The more I play with the Bombadier, the more I think he might be bad. MMWP can't go on himself. Between that, Warp Lightning or MMDR he's probably just going to die. But the rocket and MMWP has a lot of potential. Might be more of a case of me playing better. I used the Bell super poorly. Between Monks, Bell and Doomseer I didn't have a lot of room to move. That said, I think the game showed me a bit more about how I want to play Skaven/how they should be played. Speedbump spew mortal wounds, blend things with magic, shooting, and Plague Monks. lol. Doomwheel wasn't terrible. It pretty much circumnavigated the table shooting things. As the objective was moving around the mid-board it didn't have the option to grab anything, so it just ran over chaff and shot things. I think it warrants further play. Ratling Gun is kind of meh without buffs as well. Need to keep it near the Bombadier. I didn't MMWP it nor Spark it.
  11. ... wow. I didn't realise Dreaded and Standard versions stack. That's pretty severe. What other total BS combos are there I'm missing out on? lol
  12. Also question. If you were going to build a second Verminlord- you already have a Warpseer, which would you make? And before you suggest it- waaay too many parts to magnetise. I was going to do that with my first one. Corruptor? Warbringer?
  13. Great, so I'm gonna try out a bunch of stuff tonight and see how it goes! Warpseer: Master of Magic, Suspicious Stone, Dreaded Warpgale. Grey Seer: Wither, Death Frenzy. Warlock Bombadier: Warp Lightning, More Warp Power! Seer on Bell: Crack's Call, Warp Gale. 40 Clanrats: Spears. 40 Clanrats: Spears. 20 Clanrats: Swords. 40 Monks: Stave, blade. Ratling Gun. Doomwheel. Warplightning Cannon. Skaventide. 2000pts even. I ended up dropping the Clawlord as he's generally kind of mediocre to try new things. Haven't played the Bell, Wheel or Skaventide yet. So should be fun.
  14. Hey, good reply. Thankyou. Okay- so Doomwheel is okay. Try to use it as a late objective grabber, skirt the borders, etc. It's a bit unreliable, but that's Skaven. What am I playing against? I've played.. Once against Beastmen, who could run/charge/appear off the board edges early. Once against Nighthaunts with 2*30 Reapers and Cogs, appearing from the Underworld. Once against Fireslayers, who had 3-4 giant dinosaurs. I think there was once more 1500+ game, but I forget. I'm pretty new to AoS, but not games in general. Infinity's my usual thing. I have a game against Beastclaw Raiders tonight, apparently. How am I deplying? I've started deploying with a Clanrat bubblewrap around my army with 3" between them and my front line. That's what the 20 strong unit is for. Hm the Bell. I have one but I haven't used it yet. BS immunity from it could be handy. I'd want to buy another Verminlord, just in case I rolled a 12. lol. Gnawholes? One center of my army to be dry humped by the Verminlord, the other two on my opponent's extreme flanks in DZ. They tend to have chaff units to sit near them and deny me using them. I'll make a point to place them nowhere near objectives so my opponent has to choose. As for more Skyre stuff? I'm waiting on parts to build Jezzails in the mail. I'm thinking about building Globadiers from the old SoD Poison Wind Mortar guys. ... Maybe I'll add in a Bell and/or Doomwheel until my other stuff shows up.
  15. Is fast moving objective grabbing a thing in this game? I've had like 4 games now and 90% of the time it's people trying to ram armies down my throat top of 1, because my batallions suck and I never have first turn. I'm kind of trying to approach this with an old mindset/haven't played enough. I played Skaven back when Alessio Calvatore's book was a thing. Core of my list.. Warpseer - General Grey Seer - Death Frenzy or Plague Bombadier - More Warp Power Clawlord - Brutal Fury 40/40/20 Clanrats 40 Monks Warplightning Cannon Warpfire Thrower Leaves me with 310. I also kind of want to start with an extra command point, so I have one top of 1 to battleshock immune my army against said turn 1 charges. I kind of worry that I'm playing the game too static and generally have trouble hitting objectives. All my opponents block off Gnawholes, so I don't have that mobility as an option. I usually take Master of Magic, but I think it's kind of ****** if I'm not running the Vortex. So either Suspicious Stone/Master of Magic, or Verminous Valour and someone else gets like, Skavenbrew or Vigordust Injector. Doomwheel - Does it function as a fast objective grabber? Rat Ogres - 4 for 200 seems okay. They're not amazing, but they're cheaper than Stormfiends. Pointers for a noob?
  16. My list has a Warpseer, Grey Seer and Plague Monks. I guess it doesn't have a Vortex now. I kind of wish I didn't buy the box last weekend. =p I don't think I'd take Stormvermin at that price, still. I was really hoping Stormfiends got cheaper as well. But eh, it is what it is.
  17. Summary.. Vortex placed wholy within 13" not 26" Hellpit 240 +20 Grey Seer 140 +20 Screaming Bell 220 +20 Skreech Verminking 320 +20 Furnace 200 +20 Corruptor 280 +20 Warbringer 280 +20 Warpseer 300 +40 Monks 80/280 +10/+40 Ratling Gun 60 -20 Stormvermin 120/450 -20/-50 Archspark Voltik 60 -50 Gascloud Chokelung 70 -50 Gautfyre Skorch 90 -50 Rattlegauge Warplock 70 -50 Whyrlblade Threshyk 80 -50
  18. Yeah, I wish they'd drop it already. People kept talking about "Saturday" and "the weekend." It's currently Monday.
  19. I actually forgot I could take Death Frenzy. I've been using a combination of Plague and the Warpfire Thrower as swarm clearance. I find I'm going second 99% of the time so I can try to abuse stuff. And yeah. Stormfiends are kind of expensive. I don't know what I could run instead and have decent firepower. I don't own any Jezzails (waiting on eBay parts). I'm open to suggestion? Pair of Rat Ogres and a Doomwheel? Meh.
  20. I have a game tomorrow night; this is what I'm playing. 21. Out of curiosity, what does decent/competitive Skaven look like at 2000pts? I want to run stuff like Stormfiends and Doomwheels, but I suspect they're not great.
