  1. What are your thoughts about them in a 1k list? My friends and I are doing 1k games. For the first time last week I fielded a group of five of them. I casted Vanhel's Danse Macabre on them and they took out a squad of Liberators and was able to turtle on an objective until my Necromancer and zombies were able to take that role over. They did get wiped but was able to bring them back next turn in the graveyard. They seem to do OK. The only real damage they did to my Stormcast opponent was the mortal wounds. At 4/3/-1/1 hitting Liberators rerolling saves of 1 made it annoying and I'm pretty sure the horse attacks only lead to one or two saving throws for me opponent in the entire game.
  2. I'm facing the same issue. A couple friends and I are getting into AoS and planning on playing 1k armies for a while. Right now we've played several ~700 point games as we've learned rules and mechanics, etc. I'm playing Legion of Blood and the main hammer of my 1k army is going to be 10 Blood Knights (either two groups of five or one group of ten, not sure yet). However, I was thinking of fielding a 5 man Hexwraith group to harass / tie up Heros or valuable targets until the Blood Knights could go balls out. I considered Black Knights instead, however the point of the Hexwraiths (in my army) would be to close the gap fast and harass, and being able to fly seems like it is worth the 20 point premium. Not to mention Ethereal will keep them locked in combat a little longer than Black Knights.
  3. Morning all, a couple friends and I recently got into AoS and I've played maybe a half dozen games now. I'm an old 40k player but really enjoying AoS. So far we've really only done ~700 point battles as we're building up our armies. However our plan is to be playing 1,000 point games on the regular, mostly using Pitched Battle scenarios / objectives. I've put together a couple different lists and would like to get some feedback on. My opponents are Stormcast, Nighthaunt and eventually Sylvanth. I don't want to build a list tailored to any one opponent and I'm not necessarily looking to MIN/MAX my list, as this is more of a fun thing among friends. I am particularly a fan of the Vampires within LoN, which is why I'm leaning towards Legion of Blood. I haven't really decided on command traits, artifacts or spells yet. List #1 Vampire Lord x1 Cairn Wraith x1 Dire Wolves x5 Dire Wolves x5 Blood Knights x5 Blood Knights x5 Hexwraiths x5 Spirit Hosts x3 Total Points: 1,000 List #2 Vampire Lord x1 Vampire Lord x1 Dire Wolves x5 Dire Wolves x5 Blood Knights x5 Hexwraiths x5 Spirit Hosts x3 Glaivewrath Stalkers x8 Total Points: 1,000 List #3 Vampire Lord x1 Necromancer x1 Dire Wolves x5 Dire Wolves x5 Blood Knights x5 Hexwraiths x5 Spirit Hosts x3 Zombies x20 Total Points: 990 In all the lists the "common strategy" would be Dire Wolves to screen for Blood Knights to increase the likely hood of getting a charge off. Hexwraiths to grab objects, and/or hunt/tie up an enemy Hero. Spirit Hosts are there to tie up stronger units and/or Heros with the chance of putting mortal wounds on them while they're doing that. List #1, two pairs of Blood Knights and Dire Wolves to be the main spearhead. Down side of this list IMO is lack of bodies to fight enemy screens/fodder. Also only one "real" hero. The Cairn Wrath is there to fill points and give another Deathless Minions 6" bubble. List #2, a pair of Vampire Lords to make my Hero situation better but only one group of Blood Knights to be the real punching bag. An 8 man Glaivewrath Stalkers unit to be kind of tanky with Etheral and fills in the points perfectly. List #3, one Vampire Lord and one Necromancer. This has two decent Heros (much better than List #1) and puts more bodies on the roster with 20 zombies The main theme I'm trying to stick to is at least one Vampire Lord and at least one unit of Blood Knights. I like the high mobility of all three lists, with the exception of List #3's zombies but that isn't too bad. I'm not super convinced of Vargheists effectiveness, which is why I haven't even considered them
  4. Hey all, new to AoS but I played 40k (Space Marines, Tau, Tyranids) from 2000-2010. I'm strongly considering going Nighthaunt as my army of choice. To no surprise I bought the Soul Wars set first, I noticed that the NH units are seem extremely fragile, anyone have tips on best way to handle / store the units? For 40k I just used a tackle box, but I feel like if I did that with NH units, they may break.. I've got the NH Battletome on order, so I only have a copy of the general rules that came with the Soul Wars set at the moment. However my understanding is that there are four main factions (Order, Death, Chaos & Destruction) and within each major faction you have sub factions / armies which you can mix and match but if you do, then you do not get the benefit of say a Nighthaunt exclusive army, is that correct? I definitely want to play Death (despite loving Space Marines in 40k, Stormcast eternals just look/feel like the their medieval goody two-shoes predecessors). So I've narrowed down to NH or LoN. I've been trying to do some research on LoN and at first it looked like anything that wasn't Flesh-eater Courts or NH was LoN but now I'm seeing stuff about Legion of Sacrament, Legion of Blood and Legion of Night. I guess I'm a little confused about those. On the games workshop website it looks like there are only three "sub factions" of Death. Flesh-eater Courts, LoN and Nighthaunt, but I don't know if that is an accurate assumption or not?
