Hey guys sorry for the dumb question if it's already been asked. Im hoping to start a low model but competitive army. What would such a list look like? I think it will be gristlegore and dont mind that.

So was just going to post my weekend of testing builds against my friends armies. I played BoC and two of his tournament lists for Sylvaneth on multiple battleplans.
Now while these armies are not super top tier he's a very good player and we ran full match play rules to see what is what in the new STD tome.
I ran the Everchosen Batallion and 9 Varanguard with a Sorcerer on foot and it felt like a massive trap. I struggled in multiple areas to compete with multiple threat Durthu bomb Sylvaneth lineup or keep Archaon from being swamped or screened out.
We found through a days of games on multiple scenarios that if you want to run Varanguard the sweet spot is 6 (in two blobs) and that Khorne/Slaanesh 2 ensorcelled weapons and 1 fell spear felt optimal.
Archaon was great throughout when I didn't suicide him in.
MVPs were 40 blobs of Mauraders (obviously) with or without double attacking and 'My Will' on them.
Realmscourge ES was excellent if you can afford it and Darkfire is a good substitute.
I preferred personally Sorc L on Manticore over on foot but that needs more testing.
Sleeper - Now this might be my preferred playstyle but I thought Cabalist legion had some real finesse to it and if you could maximise your wizards and maybe a gaunt summ and a range of ES you could really do some shenanigans with it. I need to play around a list with it.
Anyways anecdotal evidence aside I will probably run this as core in upcoming big tournaments -
Allegiance: Slaves to Darkness
- Damned Legion: Host of the Everchosen (Sixth Circle)
Mortal Realm: Hysh
Leaders
Archaon the Everchosen (800)
- General
- Aura of Chaos: Khorne
- Spell: Binding Damnation
Battleline
3 x Varanguard (300)
- 2x Ensorcelled Weapons
- 1x Fellspears
- Mark of Chaos: Khorne
3 x Varanguard (300)
- 2x Ensorcelled Weapons
- 1x Fellspears
- Mark of Chaos: Khorne
40 x Chaos Marauders (300)
- Axes & Shields
- Mark of Chaos: Khorne
Total: 1700 / 2000
Extra Command Points: 0
Allies: 0 / 400
Wounds: 90
Then likely add a Sorc/Chaos Lord on Manticore and a ES, Warshrine or DP (need more testing Vs more armies)
I didnt think you could miz and match weapons for varangaurd. Am I missing something?

I like your thoughts. Just to clarify with you, celestant prime does not have a shooting attack for the purposes that he can use the living cities CA. Rather he has an ability used in the shooting phase - a subtle but rather very important point.

Nice looking list - I've been considering Concussors for deep-striking myself. Not sure if you are aware, but the Jade Diadem was changed in the Malign Sorcery FAQ to only work on an unmodified save roll of 6, not a 6+, so Ironoak Artisan doesn't buff it. Thought about this too until it was pointed out to me.
I know this. I think the unmodified 6 is amazing!

Hey guys, first post in this sub-forum. I have recently purchased my living cities army which I have posted below.
So excited to paint these up in a forest green theme and put effort into the bases and play my first game with them.
I have no specific questions, just wanted to post here and thought it may add to some of the awesome discussions we have had thus far.

I reckon this looks amazing! Are you able to try it out? I would be concerned that the fellwaters might drop too easily from bravery.
My 2cents is:
- drop 10 spiders in a unit to gain 100p.
- drop pendulum (i reckon in this list you wont be using it very often due to its short range) - gain 50p
- add 20 more stabbas with the extra 150 points you gain
- make the fellwaters into a unit of 6 - they will be terrifying now for any opponent (and now you can use them as bait for the opponent for go for whilst your spiders get buffed by the bad moon in turn 2 or 3 with your big a-rok), so deploy these 6 away off to the side BUT within 12' of the shrine to auto pass bravery. - the spiders dont need to set up near the shrine at all.
- the extra stabbas i would join to the other unit to make 40. they can screen for the spiders very well now. alternatively you split them into 20 and 20 and bubble wrap the fells with 20 for that sweet -2 to hit on the fells.
Overall loving the list mate.- 1

i believe we cant choose 2 spells from lore of whitefire as you have done above.
The wording of the hallowheart battle traits says that each wizard can attempt to cast 1 extra spell. but that doesnt mean we can pick one extra spell. -

Yep still loving it, time has just been precious of late though, I havn’t got many (if any) games in recently. Last proper go with them was Throne of Skulls a few months ago, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Sounds great! What lists are you wanting to run now?
-
@Matt Large hey man are you still playing the gitz and loving it? i remember reading your posts from earlier in the year and remembered how enthusiastic you were.
-
@Orphen1991Awesome to hear. Competitive gitz are not fun and fun gitz are not competitive unfortunately. But we do get the option of both which is great!
Spamming grots and magic is our competitive and not so fun for opponent and slow grindy game for us.
Almost all other units are so fun. E.g. fanatics, mangler, trolls, squigs! These units are also good (and some excellent) but if you want a solid list you want a backbone of grots to supplement it.
There are not many units that are deemed pretty crappy. Most commonly squig hoppers and spider riders are considered not great (because they are crappy).
-
We have known players who win tournaments or podium with this list and with similar lists. But I think theyre the very experienced players. With this list you have the chance to certainly do the same! I would say you'd beat all of those factions you mentioned above as we are probably stronger (nagash himself might be very hard - no experience myself).

both hobbers and bounderz. im havent stabbas so interesr is it works: squig riders + spell spam like posted above
It doesnt work as well because the hoppers and bounderz play a different role to stabbas. Stabbas are there for number of bodies and for sustain. However I am sure you can still go spell spam with squigs but you will just play a different style over all - and it wont be as competitive. Stabbas are lowkey our best unit in the book.

Obviously the difference is the hammer unit in each. The rockguts for the first. And for the second the stabbas themselves are their own hammer with buffs and MW output.

Ritchies list was different to that. You are kinda on the mark but also wayyy off.
Let me post the magic list I was talking about and then post the list you attempted to show our new friend.
Both lists are magic heavy and strong but subtlety different.

Sorry was a typo. It was supposed to say the healing spell: gift of da spider god.
I think fanatics will be a lot more killy but will have 0 sustain whereas the fellwaters will give you the much needed sustain as spiders drop easily too.
- 1
-
Stabbas for exactly what you said but also for screening on deployment.
Spiders of 5 are chaff/screen only and won't do much else.
Fellwaters are more so unitily than damage which is absolutely fine.
I like spider riders in units of 15.
I take the being spell for the shaman on foot.
Overall liking the list thus far.
