  1. I painted my Stormcast silver and blue because I like that combination and I found the gold of Hammers to be too garish. Later I learned silver and blue is the colour of Hallowed Knights. However, although I use the same colours, I don’t follow the Hallowed Knights scheme ie I have silver where they have gold, silver where they have blue, and I paint the robes completely differently, and so on. Looking at them however you could be forgiven for thinking it was the hallowed knights scheme, after all it’s silver and blue. Does this mean I must only play Hallowed Knights because my opponent has memorised all the Stormcast sub faction rules strictly by their colour scheme?
  2. And what their sub faction ability, command ability, artefact, and command trait are.
  3. Just to check you aren’t using Cycle of the storm to ignore wounds right? Eg take 8 wounds, the 7th wound kills the gryph charger, he comes back and dies again to the 8th wound.
  4. Baller. Did you drop all the Annihilators in one go or trickle them in?
  5. Note how my post doesn’t actually talk about those kinds of proxies. Please stay on topic. We’re discussing painting armies differently to the official schemes. Save your silly strawmen for someone actually making that argument. How do you cope with people painting their army in a non official scheme? Do you insist that they don’t use the stormhost rules, even though page 117 states to “pick the stormhost that most closely matches the nature of your own stormhost?” (Not colour scheme). Do you insist that they must create their own unique fluff to go with their own scheme and stick rigorously to it? Do you vet the fluff of every opponent beforehand? Or do you insist that they must use the generic Stormcast traits? Are they allowed to change them or must they stick with the first one they picked forever because you now associate that rule with their colour scheme? See how ridiculous this is?
  6. Imagine forcing people to paint their armies in colours they don’t like simply because you’re unwilling or incapable of recognising rules without exact visual aids. I couldn’t even tell you the colour schemes for all Stormhosts, an army I’ve played for 4 years, let alone the colour schemes for every variation in every army. It is laughable to suggest that someone is memorising all this. You know how you can tell what stormhost/city/enclave/etc is being played? You look at the army list where it is all written down. In any case the discussion is largely moot, as that FAQ has been there for a while now, and hasn’t resulted in the One True Way to have fun. We can all go straight back to ignoring it as we have been.
  7. Final lists with the old tome let’s see ‘em. I have an event before the new book is out and have no idea what to bring.
  8. Or more realistically the original SCE range was adapted from something else that it was originally intended for to meet the changing market/company strategy, subsequent releases were aligned to that original adapted design, and with time/technology GW can now do better and so take the opportunity to revitalise their flagship AoS line. You know, the one that is meant to go in all marketing and advertise the game to new players and show off the best of what GW is capable. Take a moment and ask yourself if Liberators really fit that specification. Take solace in the fact that GW aren’t immediately squatting old cast and move on.
  9. Yeah they just straight up removed Soulshields (which is what gave rr1s) rather than replacing it with something else, which is a little strange. I guess they were worried about 3+/5++ ignore 1 rend, which feels tame but 🤷‍♂️
  10. Not unpopular at all, I’ve been saying this for a while now. Give him the 5++ cast mystic shield on himself (or use Finest Hour or a CA) for 2+ save. Can do d3 MW on the charge as a monster, plus an extra one on a 2+. With AOA and Finest Hour hitting on 2s wounding on 2s. Plus drop 3 vials for more MWs. If Prime Electrids works RAW he’s even better as he could be doing d6 mortals on the charge too.
  11. Obvious caveats about new battletome aside, Dracothian stonks are up. 3+ save reduce rend by 1, x2 for scoring, units of 4 don’t care for coherency, and you can make them fly. Sequitors with a 5++ are 😘 just a shame about coherency in big units. A 10 might not be awful. Units of 5 are solid though and can threaten quite a lot. Prosecutors and Libs don’t do as well out of the shield change but -1 rend is much better than rr1s imho. Slight nerf to the stardrake but NBD. Cant believe they left the Arcanums Prime Electrids nonfunctional though. Sloppy.
  12. Damn OBR got done dirty. I get that buffing mortek guard to the moon with CA stacking, and chucking +1 attack on multiple catapults, was no fun, but limiting Unstoppable Advance to one unit per turn is *savage* given you can’t CA run rolls of 6 or reroll charges. Not getting to use Redeploy or Rally for no discernible reason sucks too.
  13. They aren’t Hammers of Sigmar; they are a custom stormhost who use the Hammers colouring in honour of Sigmar first stormhost, but their fluff is that they super hate monsters so use Astral Templars rules. Easy. Also here is my 10k fanfic to prove it
  14. Looks like Petrifex Elite is back on the menu. Still an overall nerf to OBR though as can’t stack CAs.
  15. Oooh great spot. What’s also interesting is that this model has black leather gloves, and not the metal gauntlets of the Vindictors. But the chariot riders DO have black gloves. Unfortunately you can’t see the icon on the chariot crew but it doesn’t look like it’s the Justiciar. Something new there perhaps? Unfortunately that’s all we can extract for now. edit: wait there’s a 180 of the models in the preview vid. The chariot definitely has Angelos conclave (makes sense). So either this is a mistake by the eavy metal team or it is a new Justiciar unit. Side note: how in sigmars name have we not seen more ordinatos stuff yet? LIGHTNING CHARGED BATTLE ENGINES where do I sign up?
  16. 15 point difference between vindictors and liberators changes everything
  17. Not only that, but Kroak and Alarielle both stayed the same, Nagash went up by 5, and Morathi went up by only a trivial amount. None of this makes any sense. We can all agree that Kragnos was overcosted, but now he has got better, so shouldn’t he stay at the same level, like Alarielle and Kroak? Why didn’t Alarielle come down for the exact same reason? Why did Nagash go up by 5 right after a massive jump instead of staying the same or coming down? Why didn’t Alarielle or Kroak go up by 5 for the same reasons as Nagash? Why only hit Morathi with the 10% bump instead of a targeted nerf? I don’t think anyone was saying Belakor was overcosted in the same way as Kragnks so why did he come down at all? And how the flip did Archaon only go up 30 and not the Morathi 10%? For the most part it is clear that there was some kind of algorithm with tweaks after the fact in particular cases (Sylvaneth and Slaanesh aside), but there is no logic to the above exceptions. It’s pure numberwang.
  18. Only the faithful! (We desperately need a non-stormhost rallying cry but this one is too good)
  19. Just did a bit of poking around and apparently the 40k 9th edition FAQs dropped July 13th, which was two days into the 2 week pre order window (starting July 11th and release July 25th). This could mean that we see FAQs and errata come Monday! 🤞
