  1. They did a big compedium at the Start of Kill Team 2nd edition too, which IIRC was about as no-frills as you can get. Just a big old book of updated warscrolls is all I'm expecting.
  2. I think the Legion guys show some potential, but they went overboard with the horns especially. Feels too much like random stuck on bits for the sake of having stuck on bits. Not a fan.
  3. Does anyone have the build instructions for the skaven half of Nethermaze? Normally these things are easy to find, but not this one.
  4. Interesting if true. Certainly LRL could only benefit from being encouraged to actually take the fight to the opponent instead of standing in place for a change, just gotta keep those formations tight. Hit penalties don't stack anymore either, so it's not really at risk of turning into some wombocombo anyway.
  5. I meant I'd be buying her off of ebay instead of getting the box, sorry for not being clear. She's the only thing I want!
  6. We will see. Gits getting a notable rules update in the GHB certainly doesn't make them seem like they're next up to bat, but OTOH we have what looks like a RE for Gits and nothing for Ogors, and while SoB are definitely getting at least one model they also are in the TC club unlike Ogors and Gits and how would that work for a battlebox anyway? One Giant vs a small army of Ogors? For me this one is too close to call unless firmer evidence reveals itself.
  7. As soon as GW hinted that Swordmasters were going to have bodyguard I expected them to be useless, and the full rules did not disappoint. Making elite infantry bodyguards is just bad design, from a fluff level sure it's fine, but in game it's a huge point-tax that makes sure your cool elite unit will never really earn it's points back as a fighter. Plus the last thing you want soaking wounds for your cheap foot heroes is your most expensive guys! It works somewhat for Fyreslayers, but mostly only because of ward save recycling to make those lost wounds not so expensive, and the Hearthguards mutual desperate need to keep a hero alive so they don't crumble to dust. In any case yes, I do worry that LRL being seemingly a copy paste job is not going to help their many many weak options see play.
  8. Unfortunately, I think overhauling the subfactions will likely only hurt the less used units, just as removing battalions did, because it was the fluffy stuff like the Temple Units that was leaning more on those bonus rules, the Vanari side of the range doesn't need anything but the core allegiance rules to shine. That said, I'm not expecting a big shakeup in general, I'm expecting a DoK level revision, but we'll see.
  9. I like the Lumineth hero, sure it's not some shocking design or anything but it's a really nice, comfy looking model I look forward to painting. Probably just gonna ebay her though because for sure the rest of the box doesn't seem interesting for either army. I guess if you missed the first Lumineth box and the battleforce and have now decided it's time to start an LRL army it's fine.... Also worth pointing out that LRL should be getting a Vanguard box and that's a little more exciting since they've never even had a SC.
  10. I can't actually remember a single time that's happened in the last few years, to be honest with you. Everyone says this everytime and then the book comes out and the warscrolls are exactly the same. And why wouldn't they be? We're talking about a months gap in release time between the boxset and the books most of the time, if not simultaneous release.
  11. From what all the early reviews have said, the new shades are basically just diluted contrast paints. I'd say that's an improvement for most purposes, but I wouldn't blame anyone for hanging on to the old bottles either.
  12. I dunno, they look pretty different to me. I like Iyandan Yellow a lot, if only because it made painting yellow less of a nightmare, but it's a very specific shade of yellow still, at first glance these new yellows seem much better suited for painting things like bright yellow armor with subtle shading which Iyandan never really did that well.
  13. As someone who uses a lot of contrast, there's some promising colors there that address some notable gaps. Major weaknesses of the existing contrast lineup, IMO: Reds: You had two very good reds, and a decent orange, but that was it, just a real lack of variety in the end. Blues: Akhelian Green and aethermatic blue are real nice paints, and Tall Blue was OK for what it was, but Ultramarine Blue was patchy and meh, Lev Blue was far too dark, there was no good solid blue-blue color, or good dark blue, or good light or icy blues. It was way too much work trying to get a blue similar to bog standard GW blues basically Purples: Shyish Purple sucked, Volpus and Magus were ok but not having a real deep purple was a downer. Yellows: The only good yellow was Iyandan, which is very good indeed but as mentioned quite orangey in the recesses and not a one-size fits all yellow. Greens: There were a lot of greens, but I only ever seemed to end up using Ork Flesh, Plaguebearer Flesh and a dabbling of Militarum and Warp Lightning. The greens in general were pretty messy and had to be used carefully.
  14. Even setting aside the limits of that ability, these guys aren't really great targets for it. They've got more stat points in durability than damage, really. They can do some work, mostly just on the back of that -2 rend but even if they're charging and teleporting away every turn I'm not sure they're earning their points back in that scenario.
  15. Forgot to add, but yeah they went the completely opposite direction a huge tome of units like Stormcast needs to breathe, which is a whole lot of focused synergies that basically break the book into fully playable subfactions that focus on specific units and play totally different on each other. Instead they made the old Sacrosanct, Vanguard etc keywords almost completely meaningless and untouched.
  16. Agreed. I think a big part of this also is that by vastly expanding the scope of generic command abilities while also walling off various mechanics (EG no buff stacking, no rerolls, various other strict limits on command ability usage) they've put themself in a box where a lot of the old command abilities are either forbidden or redundant, and they don't seem to want to make the effort of creating new fluffy command abilities for all these heroes. Instead most melee foot heroes are just blandly about as good in combat as each other now, and might have the ability to do something very slightly more efficient than a generic command ability, like using All-Out Attack once per game for free or having a different, non-stackable way to give a unit +1 to wound for one phase.
  17. The thing is, the pre-supposes that they're actively ticking off a schedule like, they had a meeting and went "Ok hands up if you think we should work on Skaven or Lumineth next. Looks like LRL have it 5-4, you heard them Bob go sculpt some new elves" The reality is that all or most of these decisions were set in motion many many years ago and likewise in the case of these 1st edition armies that I personally own too many of, the lack of new miniatures today is because of processes put in motion forever ago. Simply put, IF LRL get new models this year (which looks unlikely, but whatever) that doesn't mean that GW's sculpting team is just over there cranking out new elf models nonstop only pausing to spit on the fyreslayer molds six times a day. It would just mean that LRL already had models in the pipeline that were made years and years ago, probably right alongside the most recent release and just strategically delayed to maximize sales. Likewise, the reason we've gotten virtually no second waves for those neglected 1st Ed armies is because at the time they were made GW had no further specific plans to expand them. That's the actual difference between the big multiwave releases we see these days vs those old small armies of yesteryear. The newer armies are made with more models, and planned out as big multiple waves of releases from the start. The old armies were a one and done project when they were made, and we can only speculate if GW has any serious plans in progress for them even now.
  18. I understand you feel that way, and man I play Fyreslayers of course I want more armies to get love but this is more a feeling than a factual statement. Nighthaunt, as I already pointed out have more kits than LRL do. Does it actually matter that they got 90% of those brand new kits two years sooner than LRL did? Slaanesh has gotten a massive amount of stuff over the last couple of years, so have Stormcast obviously, so have Soulblight, and Gits, and especially Slaves to Darkness. People have tunnel vision on this just because LRL had their initial release broken up into two waves less than a year apart. The first wave was actually tiny, if it had ended there LRL would have been one of the smallest armies in the games for kits, directly competing with Fyreslayers and KO for that niche. LRL are not a standout in the world of getting new kits, they're just one of several new armies over the last few years that have gotten good support. The real difference is that 1st edition new armies (Fyreslayers, KO, DoK, Deepkin, Ironjawz, etc) had much smaller releases compared to new armies from 2E on, and have mostly received very little attention since. I'm extremely happy Sylvaneth finally got a 2nd wave, even though I was personally hoping for Kurnothi, I wish every 1st ed army got the same treatment.
  19. LRL, ignoring terrain, endless spells, and underworlds have 19 kits Nighthaunt with the same method have I believe 22 kits counting their new stuff, 23 or so with the starter set heroes coming back. Soulblight has 26, if you count Radukars court as one kit. LRL has a good amount of stuff but they aren't way in front by any means.
  20. More expensive that the old Start Collecting, what a steal! I was expecting that, but geez GW give my army a break once in a while, would ya?
  21. Oh, I'm well aware, and I bought my Fyreslayer army years ago this doesn't directly effect me. It's just a terrible crime for new players, and Fyreslayers could use all the new players they can get...
  22. The new IDK Vanguard Box is decent if still probably inferior to the old SC box for multiple purchases, but wow that Fyreslayer Vanguard box is awful. Even if they were the same price I'd tell any new Fyreslayer player to get the SC instead, much less paying more for worse.
  23. Same. It's too late for them to rework the whole preview show for them to fit in STD anyway. There was a reference the day of the leak about showing more, but I think that was just them showing the full range of builds for the new Daemon Prince. It's very possible that model is releasing well ahead of the rest of the STD updates, to go with CSM.
  24. I honestly think it's more likely than LRL for such a crowded slot. CoS especially could get their first vs box plus that rumored Witch Hunter warband for underworlds.
