I'm not surprised by this, none of the warbands have HQ's and it looks like they're only made of troops options. It also seems like the leader of a unit are the supposed to be the leaders of the warbands.

Like killteam that will have to wait for the commanders and elites expansions.

As said above we've still got 3 weeks to go - GW has loads of time to market the specifics of the game. Heck we've got 1 full week before we can even place any orders for the product.

Also you're doing exactly what I said - you're talking about the game because there is missing information. This missing information will, obviously, be provided. We 100% know details of the gameplay will be provided at some stage unless GW cancels the whole product. This is just information held in limbo to tease it out. To keep people talking and guessing and wondering and musing.

Once the info is out the nature of the conversation will change, but for right now what generates teh buzz is in part the wonder at what we don't know.

I agree and we are both playing into it by posting but.I guess my point is the higher you raise the hype the higher the pressure to deliver. I would love this to be the perfect skirmish game but if there are errors the teased out marketing could back fire. We have to find out this week unless people are going to preorder blind.

Ever notice how some films which gain big cult followings or even TV series or Anime, tend to be the ones that don't answer all the questions by the end of the film.

Marketing can be the same, GW leaves one or two bits of info missing, such as the last in a selection of armies to be included with launch rules for Warcry. The result is instant discussion and debate on the topic of what is the missing army. GW now has people interested and talking about the subject in reality and on social media and forums. The answer doesn't actually matter all that much and it wasn't so huge a cornerstone that it made big marketing news, but the fact it was missing at one time did generate interest. Even now its generating discussion.

The big key missing piece of information is how the game is played and on this we have had a black hole of information. The hype train could completely derail and terminally crash if the rules are muddled  or poor at the outset. The initial box will sell well for the terrain and chaos players will be after some of the warbands but if the game play is off its game over.

Why do you think it's not a valid reason? I want my SCE to be the elite army they are in lore and being fully capable to operate on Chamber by Chamber basis like in the lore, not a cadaverous mix of Sacrosanct punchbags, Vanguard DDs and Strike Chamber support heroes. I also have around 13000 points of SCE and that makes me feel fully entitled to wish for such things.

Stormcast can deal with hordes easily! Take 3 or 4 balllista, ordinator, longstrikes. Deepstrike them in range and pull the trigger, no more hordes.  That lot plus 300pts for liberator battleline might be half your points and you can spend the other 1,000 on stardrake, dracoths, dracolines etc.

I actually forgot I could take Death Frenzy. I've been using a combination of Plague and the Warpfire Thrower as swarm clearance. I find I'm going second 99% of the time so I can try to abuse stuff.

And yeah. Stormfiends are kind of expensive. I don't know what I could run instead and have decent firepower. I don't own any Jezzails (waiting on eBay parts).

I'm open to suggestion? Pair of Rat Ogres and a Doomwheel? Meh.

I started to write a reply then realised there isnt much point until the FAQ release  which might be as soon as today.

I have a game tomorrow night; this is what I'm playing.

    Allegiance: Skaventide
    Verminlord Warpseer (260)
    - General
    - Trait: Master of Magic
    - Artefact: Suspicious Stone

    Grey Seer (120)
    - Lore of Ruin: Wither, Plague

    Warlock Bombardier (100)
    - Lore of Warpvolt Galvanism: Warp Lightning, More-more-more Warp Power!

    Clawlord (100)
    - Mighty Warlord Command Trait: Brutal Fury

    40 x Clanrats (200)
    - Rusty Spear
    40 x Clanrats (200)
    - Rusty Spear
    20 x Clanrats (120)
    - Rusty Blade
    40 x Plague Monks (240)
    - Woe-stave
    - 1x Icon of Pestilence and Contagion Banner
    - 1x Doom Gongs and Bale Chime
    3 x Stormfiends (260)
    - Wind Launcher, Ratling Guns, Doomfists
    1 x Warpfire Thrower (70)
    Warp Lightning Cannon (180)

    Warp Lightning Vortex (100)

    Total: 1950 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 196

Missing anything? Anything extra I need? General list from a newbie.

I've found that a unit of 3 stormfiends is a bit meh. For 260pts you want to be annihilating things but unless you roll really well that wont happen often. You prob need to commit to at least 6 (6d6 shots with rattling guns!) Or just chuck them for something else.

  7. Listening to Realmslayer on my commute and it is fantastic. I went back and reread the gotrek model release info and it said that he will have rules to be playable.

Would this mean he can be an ally to any dwarf faction, the posterdwarf for a new mixed order faction (legion of the slayer?) or even the first model from a metal dwarf race that Grungi is working on.

    SKAVEN PESTILENS VERMINLORD

What do you think of this theory...

Verminlords are very popular with skaven players both cause they are cool and also because they are powerful. In response GW puts up the price 10%. Given this do we think the points nukes that everyone is predicting will be less significant than feared? I mean, whats the point of jacking up the price of something and dramatically increasing the points? Demand might survive 1 but not both. I suspect we might be fairly relaxed about the points change. Maybe 20 for all except the warpseer go might go to 300?

Spirit of the game is always going to be subjective.  For me the spirit of the game is to win the game by any legal means necessary and obtain maximum match points given to me by the game developers through their rules.  For others, it is to create armies based on their idea of the narrative.

The actual rules themselves dictate what you can and cannot do.  I don't think its right for people to chastise others for playing within the confines of the rules because they are playing a way that is not favorable to them.

Completely true. You are entirely entitled to play the game as competitively as you like and anything in the rules is fair play.

However, if you have carefully evaluated the rules and play the most powerful list in the meta that wins the game against any opponent, almost every time, turn 1, then outside of tournaments few people are going to play with you.

No problem if you are a pure tournament player but most of us are not and approach the game differently. Both approaches are valid but probably shouldnt be mixed at the table.

  10. A super cheap option but I use the boxes from teabags. An 80 bag box usually holds a whole unit. I put in some layers of small bubblewrap and close the lid.

These all neatly slot into a larger cardboard box.

I should prob invest in a case of some kind but at the moment this does the job nicely. Prob helped by the fact i drive as I wouldnt be confident with this on any form of public transport.

I think @swarmofseals would be wise to avoid this or if you could more narrowly defined the question?

Faction evaluation is usually about how strong it's best loadouts are. But there are a lot of reasons why say GSG may never fully actualize and with therefore forever look like a weaker 2.0 tome.

So I guess my criticism is maybe what you want evaluated. Competitiveness? Internal consistency? Etc.

Fair point. Its the consistency that interests me and the points of differential. I.e. unit x and unit Y have 3 attacks, 4, 3, -1, 1 damage. Unit x has a movement bonus, unit Y better bravery. How are the points built up and why do very similar units in different armies have different points.

  12. Thoughtful and well considered article. Really enjoyed it. I think a crux of GW reasoning is that they just value abilities slightly differently to players. Perhaps many of us dont place enough value on flexibility in roles for a unit. For example Palladors dont have a great offensive ability but their movement is superb and defense decent. What is the value of snatching an objective early from across the board? I bet we all have different perspectives.

Its a huge ask @swarmofseals  but I'm sure many of us would be very interested to see your faction evaluations if you were willing to share them?

Really hoping we get points changes to nerf plague monks & buff storm vermin. I believe a sweet spot exist where a all pestilence list can still be really good, but also a spot where stormvermin in mixed skaven/pure verminous can also still do really well.

I suspect monks will go to 80pts but wouldnt be surprised by 90 pts. Warpseer will def go up (maybe to 300pts).

Not sure what they could do to stormvermin to make them a viable option. At 10-20 models they dont get the bonus or loose it almost instantly so you need min 30. Thats awkward as they sell in boxes of 20. They might drop the points but take away the horde discount or give them +1 attack on the charge like bestigors.

Not a rumor but a reasonable conclusion that just popped in my head; we had (more or less) one chaos god per year in the last four years, so should sound good to have generic chaos humans (darkoath) follow the same scheme, no?

    First 2 months of 2020.

Or the Horned Rat and friends (as the 5th chaos god) makes a larger appearance.

Totally with you on nighthaunt, we could use a little love.

Really? Whats the problem? You have a huge range of bonuses and allegiance abilities. Your heroes spit MW all over the place and units (which heal/ressurect) seem a decent price. Not to be funny but I think NH are in a decent place compared to others.

Brood Horror - how to create models

Has anyone made them, and how did you put them together?

Need help, want to make or find other models to modify to make Brood Horrors?

Preferably I’d like to use GW models as I’d like to be able to use my creations in Tournaments without any issues.

Key - Want to avoiding buying the models from Forge World for pricing, especially if I want to field like 2 and a mounted Clawlord.

If you are going to build one from a GW model you could use a 40k Lord Discordant as a base. Add in some hellpit abomination bits to rat it up and it would be awesome.

  17. Lots of interesting different approaches. I personally try to paint incrementally. Get the first 1,000 done, then 1,500 and so on. I have found painting the same army continuously can lead to a bit of fatigue with doing the colour scheme over and over.

@Dead Scribe out of interest do you pick a colour scheme and army look yourself or leave it up to the painting service to do the typical paints from the pic on the boxes?

    Correct.

Basically the way GW has done it the clans each have their own battle-line option, but only if the whole army is from that specific clan; meanwhile if you're running a generalist clan army you'll have to contend with taking the 3 battleline minimum of clanrats. It's a bit of shame they didn't tweak it to that there were other battleline options for the general clan of rats, but at the same time I think it was GW trying to give ecah clan its own space within the book and their own identity without them being just overruled by going with a generalist clan.

Stormvermin are also battleline for a mixed list.

Your army doesn't already have chaff?

It does but my point is on 'extra chaff' to counter the extra pile in. Then something else to counter a different horrible ability. Eventually a list writes itself with counters and you dont have much left to use for your game plan.

Bring some chaff to eat up the first pile in. :)

I used to think the undead resurrection of a dead 40 skeletons was broken until I learned how to deal with it.

It’s a new trick; its awe will fade as players learn how to face it.

So I'll bring extra chaff to take the hit from the first pile in and enough to be a general screen too. Fine, I have potentially dealt with the problem for a round at least but in the meantime I may have had to spend 200pts on rubbish that my opponent didnt spend. That puts me 10% behind just to be able to play the game.

My point is everything can be dealt with if you dedicate enough of your army to countering but eventually theres a line where you dont leave yourself enough to win.
