  1. Thanks for the advice guys/gals. My first batch of WAAAGH!!! crazed orruks are in the mail.

One more noob question. The 6+ save the you get for Bonesplitterz allegiance. Is that on all wounds (a save after the save) like the DoK get or just on Mortal Wounds?

  2. Hey Bonesplitterz

Any suggestions for a noob to the savage orruks? I love Greenskinz (both grots and orruks), but I found the Ironjawz a little slow and to elite. If I'm playing Greenskinz I want a horde of bodies charging around and getting stuck in.

I've heard that the arrow boys were nerfed and my local meta includes Deepkin so I don't think focus too much on range.

Would would be balanced 1,000 point starter list that can do a bit of range damage/bodies for objectives, has some speed, and a decent amount of magic?

    Any advice would be welcome!

    ...oh and WAAAGH!!! ;)

Sisters of Slaughter... what are they good for?

Just curious why people take SoS over another unit of witch elves.

I paint more than I play, so I don’t have enough strategic experience to understand how to take advantage of their different abilities. Is their role different than Welves? Do you hold them back to counterattack behind the welves? Defensively, to hold objectives?

My current 1,000pt list is Hagg Nar with 20 WE and 10 SoS, along with snakes n’ harpies n’ warlocks, lead by a medusa.

    Any advice appreciated!

If you're playing Hagg Nar I would suggest a Cauldron. Getting your units on a 4+ or 5+ save with the bloodshield and then a 5+ save after the save is unbelievably good. It makes your hard hitting, but squishy witches, snakes and sisters tanks that can outlast all but the toughest armies and benefit from the more powerful blood rites in the later turns.

  4. Ok, after reading @Jais suggestions and finding my slaughter queen on the cauldron effective, but a bit slow, I have decided to move away from the two towers build I had been going for.

I'm now going to try a tower and Morathi build similar to Nick Thompson's list from AoS GT.

    Hag Narr

    Slaughter Queen on cauldron (general)

    - crimson rejuvenation

    - devoted disciples

    Hag queen

    - blessing of  Khaine

    - iron circlet

    Morathi

    - mindrazor

    20 Blood Sisters

    20 Witch Aelves

    10  Witch Aelves

    10 Witch Aelves

    5 Khinerai

    5 Doomfire Warlocks

    - shroud of despair

The killing and holding power of army are in the the SQC, Snakes, and Hag. I'll use Morathi and the Warlocks to further buff them and then either use them to kill or hold off the most powerful enemy units.  I'll also change Morathi immediately to preserve wounds and use her grab objectives or pin down the most powerful units of the enemy so my killing force can catch them move them off the objectives. The Witch Aelves provide board presence and  will work to screen or pin enemy units and hold objectives. I've built all of them with Buckers, so even outside of the SQC's bloodshield they can hold for a turn against smaller units. The Khinerai are simply there for tactical emergencies.

Once my Morathi and the rest of my Snakes show up I'll let you know how it works. :)

Hey don't quote me on this, but about a month ago I heard some stuff about a giant centipede for moonclan from a store owner in denver(maybe it was just a repeat of other rumors, but this guy was spot on for deepkin stuff). only posting nw do to recent rumor mills.

Interesting. I wonder if that would be a complement or replacement for the colossal squig. I REALLY want new squig models.

Me too.  When Moonclan arrive I’m immediately collecting them. No ifs, ands or buts.

Same here! That is one army i'll play even if they're horrible. Really, I just want some new plastic squig models, and maybe a decent troll.

@Fisher KIng I'm really thinking it's Grots also (I'm really excited to see what GW does with Moonclan). I think Slaanesh would like something a bit more elegant.

I hope it's Moonclan too, but the consensus is that it's Slaanesh.

I can't wait for Moonclan. I love the more absurd armies. My knife wielding ladies in bikinis are pretty awesome, but the not have that moon clan silliness.

BloodSisters are no joke. A unit of 10(280 pts) can dish out a solid amount of rend and mortal wounds, something the army lacks. that said, the rough part is that you will need a Wizard general and therefore No Command Ability if you are to Melusai battleline which is the popular way to run a snake army.  But, I would encourage you to consider an alternative, keep the Slaughter Queen on Cauldron as General and pay your minimum Battleline taxes in Witch Aelves., 3 x100 pts spent on some chaff Witch Aelves to screen your snakes when BCR is charging you and you'd still have access to Orgy of Slaughter,  which is,  in my opinion, well worth it's value in points.  Plus those 10 person units of Witch Aelves will be rolling 40 dice each unit if they're near a hero. 30 if not, so that alone isn't a bad offensive option either. In the end scoring is about more models so some fodder foot soldiers is never a bad idea.

That's not a bad idea. I do like my Cauldrons, particularly the SQ. Having access to both prayers and the bloodshield is pretty hard to give up.

What sort of list do you run?

How are you guys liking the Warscrolls? (Battalions?)

I'm with @Overread. It would be nice if GW reworked the battalions to make them more like the temples, enclaves, etc. Meaning that they give you an ability, but come with some restrictions and costs. I think the DoK battalions are actually reasonably structured in that they focus on units that work well together, but their cost is pretty high for what you get unless you are trying to keep drops down.

Personally, I like the Khinerai models, but they are annoying to carry around and move into and out of combat with their wings. As has already been said, they have a lot of tactical flexibility, but they are SUPER fragile.

  10. I keep hearing about a nerf to the Daughters of Khaine. Does anyone have any concrete knowledge of any coming nerfs?

I'm new AoS and GW generally, so I'm not sure how nerfs usually get implemented. Points changes? Ability changes? FAQs to the BT?

I ask since I'm in the middle of building up a DoK army. I like that they are competitive, but mostly I love having an army of angry murder ladies in bikinis stabbing zombie dragons and hulked out orruks to death with daggers. AoS is freaking awesome! :)

I'd appreciate help with an artefact and which prayers/spells to take. DoK seem to have a good mixture of strong options so it's hard to know what to focus on. (For fluff purposes I want them to be from either Hysh or Aqshy if you're thinking of realm artefacts).

If you are going with Hagg Nar I suggest picking up Blessing of Khaine (re-roll fanatical faith rolls). It synergizes well with Devoted Disciples which makes your fanatical faith a 5 up. I also usually take crimson rejuvenation for my Slaughter Q on C. She is so much more effective near full health that it's worth it.

    I've built a similar DoK 1K army

    Hagg Nar

    Leaders

Slaughter Queen on Blood Cauldron (General) - 330pts

    CT - Devoted Disciples

    CA - Orgy of Slaughter

    P - Crimson Rejuvenation

    Hag Queen - 60pts

    P - Blessing of Khaine

A- Iron Circlet (I like knowing that I should get at least one prayer off)

    Battleline

    20 Witch Aelves w/ Bucklers - 200pts

    10 Witch Aelves w/ Bucklers - 100pts

    Units

    5 Doomfire Warlocks - 160pts

    5 Khinerai Heartrenders - 80pts

    1 command point

    Total: 980pts

As you can guess I'm building towards a two tower build designed around the Cauldron Guard battalion. That will be a 2k army with the above, a Hag on Cauldron, a Hag, 2 x 30 WAs and 1 KH plus the Cauldron Guard battalion.

My choices for the prayers and WA equipment are built around trying to make them at tough as possible. With the combination of bloodshield and the bucklers I can get my WAs on a 4 up save and one of them on a 5 up FF save on all wounds. So far I have only played a couple of games (lost both due to tactical stupidity), but my WAs easily make it to T4/T5 where the Blood rites table really shines.

If you want a break down of bucklers vs daggers check out @Overread math hammer on it. It is excellent. The up shot is that buckers help quite a bit with survival, but are only offensively effective in large  units.

I plan on running this two towers build until the DoK's get nerfed and then I'll go back to the drawing board and mix in some snakes or a Morathi. ...or maybe pick up the shadow aelves if they are out by then.  :)

I'm Dan from Ottawa ( @CanHammerChris — the English guy that popped out to the first CCBB to say 'hi'). I tend to play with a small group of friends due to time constraints. I am going to see about getting out to CCBB seeing as it is so close.

Hey Dan, where do you play in Ottawa? I'm just getting into AoS and looking for more places to play.

Wrong. GHB18 values are incorrect, the Battletome values are the correct points. See the Errata on WHC.

Really? FTW Warhammer! What's the point of tweaking battletomes in the GHBs if those aren't right.

    Sighhhhh.

So what are people leaning to nowadays? I hit a hobby slump, partially due to a newborn, and I'm ready to get some paint on my deepkin in preparation for 2019 tournaments. This was the last list I came up with a few months ago.

I wanted to try and counter some of the heavy-magic lists with this, or at least attempt to but it seems like I may as well just swap the AoSea for the Storm and drop the wanderers/spellweaver for more eels?

It's worth noting that Morrsarr's got cheaper in GHB18. They are now the same as the Ishleans.

Personally, I've pretty much gone all in on eels on the premise that you are better off doing one thing really well than a bunch of things ok.  That said I've never played tournaments and meta here in Ottawa is not very magic heavy.

  15. I just got into AoS this summer so my collection is still pretty small. It's an expensive hobby, but I've found the building and painting  surprisingly fun. ...not as fun as fighting battles, but more fun than I expected.

    Deepkin

    1x Akhelian King

    1x Tidchaster

    1x soulscryer

    6x Ishlaen guard

    9x Morrsarr gard

    2x Allopexes (sharks)

    1x Loviadon (giant turtle)

1x Reavers (i've only used them for a PtG campaign)

    1x Shipwreck

When I started with AoS I also picked up the Ironjawz since I had enjoyed the orks in Warhammer: total war. But I don't really like how they play. I much prefer the speed and hitting power of the Deepkin. Plus Aelves on sea monsters are just plain cooler models.

    Ironjawz

    1x maga boss on foot

    1x warchanter

    1x nob shaman

    1x ardboyz

    2x brutes

    1x gore gruntas

...I'm planning sell off my Ironjawz if I can though, so they won't be in my collection for long. I'll be adding a Elidon and probably start collecting Daughters of Khaine or shadow aelves if they come out anytime soon.

I plan on focusing on Aelves since they seem to have some of the coolest models and are good combat armies (at least so far).

I haven't finished painting my Deepkin yet, but here is one of my eels.

  16. Question for all you Undersea Aelves.

I just picked up a eiodon. Should I build it a Storm or Sea? I'm not sure which would synergize best with a Akhelian based army.

Currently I run variations of the following:

    A King

    6 Morrsarr

    6 Morrsarr

    6 Ishlaens

    (sometimes) 1-2 Sharks

    (usually) Leviadon

    Tidecaster

    Soulscryer

I focus on mobility to tag objectives and re-positioning to get charges off with my AK and Morrsarrs. I think it's what the Deepkin are the best at and it's a fun style to play. I also don't usually use a lot of magic since that's not really a Deepkin strength and few of the people I play with have magic focused armies.

I'm thinking of getting more Morrsarrs and then basically running two attack wings of 9 Morrsarrs, one supported with the AK and on by of EoStorm. But I'm a little worried if I do that I'll be screwed if I ever play anyone with a magic focused army.

    What do you think?

Great game against Nurgle tonight. We played 1000 points IDK and 1000 points SCE vs. 2000 points of Nurgle.

This was the most fun with IDK yet. The game was close up to the 5th round but my highlight was when I took out his Great Unclean One turn three with an Akhelian King and two Ishlaen eels just after the same units had killed Festus the previous turn. At the end it was 19:26 in mission points for the Order team.

I ran an generic Akhelian King with Unstoppable Fury and Sanguine Pearl and I dare say it mght be even stronger than Volturnos.

So maybe I should drop one of the infantry for a shark. Is Vulturnos and a Tisecaster too much for 1k? Or would an AoSea as the only hero be a viable 1k list?

Sharks look cool, but I've never found them to be very effective. When I play 1k, I usually go king lots of eels and a tidecaster or a shark.

I don't think you would have enough units I'd you took an AoStorm/sea. I don't usually take a Leviadon or and AofS unless it's 1.5-2k.

  19. 39 minutes ago, LegioX217 said:

Its so hard to decide what to paint next because its so hard to fit all the good toys in.  I'm finishing up some infantry and can't decide which hero to paint,  I have them all except the AoS. I'm thinking Tidecaster but then if I end up going AoS I'll probably wish i spent the time painting the scryer or something else.

    So far I have

    10 Reavers

    10 Thralls

    Scryer,Render,Tidecaster,Lotann, King/Vulturnos

6 eels (going 3 of each to start)

I would like to get a shark for rule of cool and I haven't decided which centerpiece model I should go for bigger games, AoS or Leviadon though I'm using the Ionrach scheme so I would possibly go heavy magic with an AoSea. Not sure if AoS+tidecaster is too much for average games. I realize how quickly points add up if I want to take a Vulturnos and AoSea, not sure if its even good at 1.5k points or overkill, and I do like to paint up what will ease into a higher game size.

    For 1k points just to get a variety of units painted up I was looking at something like;

    Vulturnos

    Tidecaster

    10 Reavers

    10 Thralls

    3 Ish

    3 Mors

    960

Not power gaming it but hopefully can transition into 1.5k points. Though it would seem ridiculous throw an AoS and a shark in to bring it to 1440.

Well as long as I paint something it should be progress :D

Personally, would take more Ahkelians.  I've been playing them for a little while, I've gone almost completely for Ahkelians. To me it is really powerful to have all of your army on a 12+ move with flight. We will see how I do with this when I run into magic heavy armies.

Speed and hitting power seems to be what the Deepkin do well. Their entire lore, allegiance  abilities, and most of their enclaves are focused on moving fast and hitting hard. The Ahkelians are the units that do this, specifically the eels (particularly Morsarrs), the King, and to some extent the AoStorm are what do that for you so that is where I'm focusing from now on.

The Soul Render and the Thralls are awesome models and I have seen some very killy Thrall heavy armies on youtube etc. But I think if you want a army that is a horde of aelves, you're better off playing Daughters of Khaine since that is what they are designed to be.

Anyway, the point is to have fun. The Deepkin are decent enough that you can be competitive with a bunch of different lists, so play what you think is cool. Personally, I think the King and the Morsarrs, and to a lesser extent the shark are the coolest units, so I have lots of them in my army.
