Khorne Bloodbound/Chaos 2000 points?

This is a proposed list for a future tournament - it's fluffy rather than competitive so I'm not expecting to come close to winning, but hopefully I can improve on my usual terrible rankings! (My Chaos list is generally more random than this, so thought I'd specialise it a bit more). It's based on the models I currently own, but I'm open to new acquisitions as long as it's not a Bloodthirster ...

Mighty Lord of Khorne
Bloodsecrator
Bloodstoker
Slaughterpriest
Skullgrinder

20 x Bloodreavers
15 x Blood Warriors
10 x Bloodletters
5 x Wrathmongers
1 x Khorgorath

20 x Gors
3 x Varanguard
1 x Skull Cannon

 (2000 points)

The idea is to use the Gors and the Varanguard as a fast-moving attack to tie up one flank, and use the core Bloodbound units in the middle and on the other flank, benefiting from the Bloodsecrator/Bloodstoker and Wrathmonger buffs. The Skull Cannon (and Slaughterpriest) can add some range, plus the Skull Cannon has a pretty nice melee profile that can generate extra shooting attacks so can move forward to engage in combat as well. As with any Bloodbound list, everything depends on being able to close the distance as quickly as possible, but I'm hoping that there are enough models here for objective-grabbing (something else the Gors and Varanguard should be good at).

never use varanguard without archie. they don't have mark of anything without him. and they are already overpriced even if you use the full buff (using archie). if you want a flank, better use chaos knights. khorgorath is not that good alone, so drop him if you don't wanna bring more than 2. i don't know what gors do, but i recommend don't wander to other units that don't have khorne keyword. bring 20 blood warriors so you have 2 guys with the oversized weapon. you might wanna change the mighty lord of khorne to lord of khorne on juggernaut. lord jugger is better IMO. more skull cannon for range support. also if you wanna bring bloodletters, might as well as bring any DAEMON HERO KHORNE so they can have reroll to hit of 1. skarbrand, bloodthirster, or since you want to have flank, daemon prince of khorne is a great choice as well. skullgrinder might be awesome if you can activate his buff, but at 2000 pts, it's quite unlikely. so better bring another bloodsecrator.

Good idea re: the Bloodletters - the Bloodmaster is the same points cost as the Khorgorath, so I may just swap them out.

I'm a big fan of the Varanguard even without Archaon. I think they can be heavy-hitting, and attacking twice once per battle has proved useful in the past. The Gors are really there because I have the models and because they can be really fast, with run and charge in the same turn, but I'll have a think about what Khorne-specific stuff I could replace them with. The Bloodthirsters are off the menu though, mainly for financial reasons!

I was thinking of adding some Skullreapers and splitting the Blood Warriors into two units of ten, and with the Reavers, Wrathmongers and some of the heroes I'd have enough for a Bloodmarked Warband.

Alright, if that is your choice, i cant do anything. Yeah i also annoyed by the fact that bloodthirster is too expensive for what he does (in money terms) while other get that many points for half a price (stonehorn, treelord). Reslly hope GW at least price him down to £36 or at least below £50. And i can accept skarbrand for £50. It's merely a wish tho. My advice for skullreapers, if you notice you will get 10 different upper bodies from that box. If you are skilled enough, you can make both wrathmonger and skullreaper from 1 box. You better change gors with other khorne, chaos knights will do, or more range support.

other strategy, if you have old archie, and wanna play daemon, bring them! With archie, varanguard can have their bonus, and the lesser daemon have more chance to get more models back from their banner. Also, since he's also a DAEMON HERO and other gods, you don't have to bring other daemon hero.

Okay, this is what I've refined it to now:

Mighty Lord of Khorne

Bloodsecrator

Bloodstoker

Slaughterpriest

Skullgrinder

10 x Blood Warriors

5 x Blood Warriors

5 x Wrathmongers

5 x Skullreapers

10 x Chaos Warriors (mark of Khorne)

10 x Chaos Warriors (MoK)

3 x Mighty Skullcrushers

1 x Skull Cannon

1 x Chaos Spawn (MoK - just cos the points were there!)

Battalion: Bloodmarked Warband

This should maximise the various Khorne buffs (and crucially is wallet-friendly, as it only involves me buying a Start Collecting Bloodbound box and gathering the extra bits for some Skullreapers ... )

Looks pretty solid and not too dissimilar to what I've run at 2k

How have you got on with the list? My only concern is everything bunching up too much to get those sweet Bloodsecrator buffs, but adding a second one just seems like I'd be making things too easy on myself.

Although solid on paper and better in a few situations i think if you're going khorne synergy you'd be better off taking Blood warriors over Chaos warriors.

In units of 10 you're paying 20 points to get the pile in on death ability which is fantastic and you're getting a goreglaive.

The only way I see CWs measuring up is if they're taking great weapons for the rend but you have to make sure they're fighting 4+ save units or better.

Not too bad, there are things that worked and things that didn't, but that's the case of most games.  You've got a decent amount of bodies and armour so should be versatile against most things.  The unit of 5 Blood Warriors is a pretty good one for camping at objectives, but either Blood Warriors or Chaos Warriors are good for that - nine times out of ten the scenario will require you to keep hold of some objective or other after all.

I find I loose some of the Bloodsecrator buffs on either side - getting his initial placing is much harder on a 6x4 than a 4x4!  The key seemed to not allowing yourself to be pulled into either corner of your opponents side once he's plonked the banner down.  Skullcrushers always tend to be a bit of an anti-climax, a unit of 3 doesn't tend to cause a massive amount of damage for their points cost, however they're fast and can be used to tie up large unit of chaff which could otherwise stop you getting your other units across the board.

Thanks for all the tips! I think I'll go with the list above, then refine it further depending on how it plays. I've got pretty much all the Khorne heroes, so can swap them out when I feel like it, and will gradually build up more Blood Warriors. I've got the 20 Bloodreavers from the starter box, and might field them at some point just for the comedy effect of watching them get vaporised by anything that vaguely looks in their direction!
