Dracothjay
Hi people. As I'm slowly building a sylvaneth army, I feel I want all my sylvaneth to do the fighting in combat phase. Therefore, would 2x20 wood elf glade guard units make a brilliant addition to this army as it offers firepower? and I'm guessing you still need sylvaneth units to chose as your BATTLELINE? KHHaunts
So just so im clear you want your Sylvaneth to be all close quarters but you would like some wood elves to offer ranged support? If im understanding correctly then Glade Guard can certainly be effective in large numbers as they have the Arcane Bodkin ability which can often wipe units off the board in one go. However there are two main problems with fielding them as you are planning. Firstly the glade guard has a threshold ability that requires 20+ models to activate. if you have only twenty then your only one wound away from a power drop i would field atleast 25. secondly like many battleline units glade guard only really proove there metal once you throw in a bit of synergy in their. My main army is a wood elf/Sylvaneth army and i always use my glade lord or even better my glade lord on forest drakes command ability to let me re roll hit/wound rolls of 1 for a chosen unit THEN they start really doing damage. If you dont mind going compendium the waywatchers (the unit not the hero) are another option. Wont hurt to take either along. why may i ask wouldnt you go with some kurnoth hunters with bows? I've bought my first sylvaneth unit and already assembled them with scythes. I plan on getting more and MAYBE equipping bows, but I feel with glade guard pumping out a load of shots far more comfortable than 3 hunters. I actually plan on running an all sylvaneth army, but was just curious how wood elf shooting synergises with sylvaneth? But, as you stated earlier, I do indeed plan (if I was going to build a joint army) to run the sylvaneth as combat specialists and wood elves as shooting. Aezeal
Including the Wood elves means forfeiting the sylvaneth allegiance stuff (which is not insignificant).

The short answer is that they dont Synergize anymore. The wood elves dont even get any rules allowing them to travel through forests and in the fluff all we know is Alarielle has rejected them for some reason. Aezeal has a good point with the alligeance stuff. But again i dont run my army as a hyper competetive one i manage to win alot of my games with just the Order alligeance. But suppose i would have to agree that I would rather a field a large unit of glade guard than Kurnoth hunters but thats purely because a field a wood elf army with sylvaneth and not the other way round. So all my command abilites are usually for wanderers.
Dracothjay
AoS shooting is so powerful. Surely wood elf shooting would compliment? Nomad prince next to a unit of glade guard spamming his command ability would be beneficial whilst sending out kurnoth hunters and durthu to do the heavy work? Nico
The problem is that without the Sylvaneth allegiance you have no woods, or negligible woods, no teleporting to woods, no overpowered artefacts etc..
