TrawlingCleaner
Gabba-ghoul! I got into Flesh Eater Courts about 6 months ago and started painting them seriously in October. I love the idea of Blisterskins being these roaming civilisations of ghouls, worshipping the sun but being horrifcally burnt by it. Mengel did a rad tutorial on Goonhammer that I follow mostly but add some different mixes or different touches of my own, here and there. I'm currently sitting at about 1.5k points painted (in old money): Spoiler Abhorrant Archregent Abhorrant Ghoul King Duke Crakmarrow Marrowscroll Herald 2x3 Crypt Flayers 40 Ghouls 3 Crypt Horrors Royal Beastflayers Grymwatch Beastflayers: Spoiler Crypt Flayers: Spoiler Ghouls! Spoiler Grymwatch: Spoiler Herald: Spoiler Archregent: Spoiler Ghoul King: Spoiler There's a few conversions here and there in the army, mostly the Ghouls and the Flayers and Horrors. The Ghouls are mostly just bits of fantasy melee weapons replacing hands or forearms as I really like that vibe in the Beastflayers team too. The Ghoul King is along the same lines with his Heirloom sword's hilt being part of his arm. Converting is one of the best bits of the hobby for me, although admittedly, these arequite small scale conversions compared ot my other army projects 😄 To get myself to 2k in old money (and also finish all models I currently have for this project), I need to finish the King's Terrorghiest and also build and paint 20 more Ghouls. I'd like to get this done before the army box arrives next weekend but we'll see how I go! 10
TrawlingCleaner
With the army box arriving a few weeks late, I pushed myself to get the Terrorghiest completed as it had been sat on my painting desk for a while. I'd gotten some basecoats down and really didn't like where it was going so I promptly sidelined it and procrastinated. When the box was about to arrive I decided to push myself and get it finished, I'm really glad I did as it's now one of my favourite models in the army! Nightsbane, Terrorghiest mount of Viceroy Offalsworth: Spoiler I'm super happy with Nightsbane and the skin-scheme is how I'm going to do the Morbheg knights too as they're of the same anncesstry. I did also plow through the Cryptguard, these are absolutely fantastic models that I love painting! I did some minor conversions on one of the banners and as I built the Knights first, I had a load of helmetted heads left over: Spoiler Edited January 3 by TrawlingCleaner 3
TrawlingCleaner
The Gore warden is done now too! 3
Sparxius
I love this. This made me want to paint the underworlds warband like this. Seriously in love with this paint scheme. Can't wait to see what you do with the cavalry bats.
TrawlingCleaner
Thanks Sparxius! With the army majoritily being skin, it takes contrast paints really well and makes the process super easy. I hope you enjoy painting the Underworlds team! 😃 The first of the Morbheg Knights are done! Spoiler The shield is a visual representation of a sinus headache 😆 1

I would love to know why you choice these colours.

I would love to know why you choice these colours. I went for brown for 2 main reasons: 1) So that it matches the Terrorghiest. Although it's a bit darker, the Terrorghiest and the Morbheg bats are meant to be distantly related lore wise and it also kinda gives a nod to that with the paintjob. In my head, it's the same way that I've highlighted the Vampiric models to be a lighter skin colour than all the ghouls and Mordants. It's probably not going to get noticed but it's a neat detail for me 😄 2) So that it doesn't clash with the colour scheme of the ghoul riding it or the base colours but makes each of those pop a bit more. I was thinking about going for black for the skin instead but I think it would've been too dark and taken away from the black bits of cloth and the hair of the ghoul. If I go to much brighter, it's likely to drown the ghoul out a bit 😅
TrawlingCleaner
I finished up the Morbheg Knights, they're absolutely rad models and I can't wait to get them on the field! Spoiler Photo with Grandad 😆 I also got the Varghiest done too, the model was in just the right space of being large enough that I can get to all the nooks and crannies with ease but not being too big or small that it takes me ages to paint. He only took me a few hours to paint! Ser Gregir the Small, Lord of the Marches Spoiler That's the launch box done! I just need to finish Gregir's base and then get some army shots! The only models I have left in my backlog are 20 more ghouls and I'm done! I'm in the process of building those at the moment 2
TrawlingCleaner
The army box is done! I'm super pleased with these noble knights, to be honest I've not spent a huge amount of time on them and they look fantastic which I'm really pleased with! 😄 Spoiler 20 more ghouls and the pile is done! 1
Sparxius
After the Ghouls, what else you planning to add to the list? I've never liked the FEC aesthetic, but with this paintscheme i like it alot more. Are you also getting the FEC Throne? Would love to see what you do with it.
TrawlingCleaner
Good question! I absolutely love the other new chracter units that released with this wave and can't wait to get my hands on them and I'd love to get the Throne and the Endless spells too. I'm getting married in April so all of my spare coin is going towards that but I'll definitely be picking up the new kits after that's all paid off 😅 A friend of mine has said that they've been working in their 3D printer dungeon to print something for me to paint for my FEC so I'm dead excited to see what that is too 😃
Big Kim Woof-Woof
Awesome work!... the colours you've used really do the models justice. I tip my hat at you!

Can't wait to see how your army starts to grow, especially with extra terrain. I'm definitly following your posts here. Also finished my own underworlds warband in this scheme. Will be posting these in the Painting contract at the end of the month.

Great work 😃 I finished off the last 20 Ghouls: Which leaves me at 60 Ghouls total and the backlog for the army entirely painted: In total my army currently sits at: Ghoul King on Terrorghiest Arch Regent on Foot Vargulf Courtier Gorewarden Marrowscroll Herald 60 Crypt Ghouls 20 Crypt Guard 10 Beast Flayers 6 Crypt Flayers 3 Crypt Horrors 3 Morbheg Knights As I also have the Underworlds team but they're gone from the Army roster (assumably to Legends), I think I'll use Duke Crackmarrow as a Royal Decapitator or a Crypt Ghast Courtier so in total I have : 2590 points of Flesh Eater Courts (so far) 😄 I need to get some army shots! 2
Sparxius
The new underworlds warband is coming up, can't wait to see what you do with it. Did you get the 3d printed terrain yet? Hope to see more army shots soon! 😍
Yousuf
Wow! They look so good! :0 fantastic paint job all round and I can’t believe how many models you’ve managed to get through. Takes me ages to get through one. Do u mind if I ask what’s the paint scheme for the skin? I had a look at mengel’s and it seemed quite complicated - was wondering if u had made any adjustments? Thanks, Yousuf
TrawlingCleaner
Sorry I missed both of these! Although I may have to pay eBay prices 😅 My pal was printing me a really cool looking Varghiest but hasn't gotten around to it yet, he's a very busy dude and I'm in no rush 😁 I did manage to finally get a hold of the FEC Endless spells but GW still haven't brought the throne back into stock yet I definitely need to get an army photo together though On 3/29/2024 at 8:44 AM, Yousuf said: Wow! For the skin I do: Gryphhound orange mixed with Bugmans glow for the skin (over Zandri dust spray), then highlighted with Cadian Fleshtone except I do more of the skin than the tutorial suggests otherwise it's very luminous! 😅 Flesh Tearers red really thinned for the red areas for a couple of coats then some black dots on the areas you want the really burnt skin to be Speed wise, I think it's just practice. I batch paint models so after the first couple of models I know what I'm doing and have figured out what I want the paint to do and where to cut corners 🤣 The best way to cut corners for me is during the highlighting step as there's plenty of places change the angle of your brush to ensure you're highlighting several things at once. For example, their ribs or their hair are mostly lines that are perpendicular so all you need to do is hold your brush flat to those areas and drag them across. This means you're highlighting a good chunk of that area in one go. If that makes sense?
Yousuf
Thank you so much. Yes that makes total sense. I’m hoping to try it out very soon. Keep up the awesome work. I’m sure the gang on the AoS FEC FB group would love to see these too. Thanks again, Yousuf
TrawlingCleaner
After getting married on Monday, I wanted a chill easy project whilst deep diving Fallout lore videos 😅 Thankfully the Endless Spells finally arrived so I painted them mostly with contrast paints and the last of the skin mix I use for my ghouls, they're such rad models! Spoiler At some point soon I'm hoping to pick up the Skinnerkin, Goremayne and also hopefully Ushoran but I'm not too sure when just yet! 😁
