Base size for Aspiring Deathbringers

Avindskjold

Question

So a look on the GW store shows that the Aspiring Deathbringer (the classic model, standing on skulls) is packaged with a 32mm base. However, the newer Aspiring Deathbringer model with the Goreaxe and Skullhammer is packaged with a 40mm base.

The same trend can be seen with the older Exalted Deathbringer with a shield and the two new sculpts.

Some folks might say the base the model comes with is the best bet, however, we're looking at the same unit, just with different weapon options and abilities. I have the classic version unbased, and only a 40mm to spare at the moment.

What's the best solution?

Are you measuring from Base? If not don't worry, as it doesn't matter currently.

Speculation is that, in the next iteration of AoS it will be mandatory round bases, and the bases provided by with the model will be the sizes.

the old rule, was to use the bases provided for the model as shown in the instruction guide as you could gain advantages by using smaller bases, or by rotating rectangular bases.

The general trend seems to be heroes on bases one size up from their rank and file equivalent (though some, if they are no bigger than the rnf troop remain on the smaller bases, eg chaos sorcerers etc).  I will probably go with whatever the minis come with in gorechosen (hopefully they will all be 40mm).
