GrimDork
Well, it’s been an age since I posted any pics of my work. When I looked back and found my old log I realised that the site I was using for image hosting had folded so all the pics had gone, so easier to just start a new log. This log will mainly feature my main armies Deepkin, KO & Lumineth. But I’m a bit of a hobby butterfly and there are too many armies that I like the look of/want to collect. My current plan is to collect armies of around 1000pts then scale up from there. Of late I’ve been trying to be disciplined and not open/assemble new models and force myself to finish WIP’s off. Last week tho I impulse bought a random mini I spotted for a decent price on eBay. A week later and I’ve finished it! I’m chuffed, this really isn’t like me! I really enjoyed painting this, after being strict with myself it felt so good to just paint a model I want to paint in whatever colours I feel like, not just because it fits into my collection somewhere. I could expand this into a force as I have the Tzeentch half of Aether War in a cupboard somewhere? Maybe next time I need a palette cleanser I’ll dig em out. Hopefully post again soon with idoneth progress. Thanks for looking! 14
Subscriber SunStorm Posted September 4, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted September 4, 2021 Great work! Sometimes painting something just because you want to is the best way to reignite the hobby mojo. Rather than feeling you have to paint a certain unit, for filling out a role in a competitive list or even just filling out battleline choices. Treating units as display pieces you can be proud of finishing, to me is an important part of being happy in the hobby. 1

GrimDork
Thanks for the comments & likes everyone! I can't believe how quickly time passes, I could've sworn It was only a few months ago that I put up my last post here. Oh well, I have been slowly plugging away at my idoneth, got my first 10 thralls finished so here are some pics. I have 10 reavers & a soulrender in progress. For deepkin I have the following; Eidolon, Ahkelian King, Thrallmaster, 10 more thralls, 10 more reavers, 2 allopexes, 3 eels and a shipwreck so should keep me busy for a while. Thanks for looking.
GrimDork
I have been working on things, just not sharing that regularly. I did this quick test mini for KO. Whilst I had custom schemes floating around my head when I got the paints out nothing quite came out as I’d envisioned so I ended up going full Barack Thryng! I love the idea that they keep the ancestor symbols clean as a mark of respect. Taking that idea further I’ve purposefully done heavy weathering on everything else. I’m pretty happy with him, though I might try some different techniques like AK striking grime/rust or oil washes on future minis. In other news, whilst I haven’t been painting or collecting 40k for quite some time, the buyer of my old eldar army got in touch asking if I could paint some extra units so I’ve been having fun with them too. Thanks for looking 3
GrimDork
So glad TGA is back up! I’ve really missed it this week. Painted this a few months back, but never got round to sharing pics. Tzeentch seem to be my go to palette cleanser minis. I’ll have to get the rider done at some point. Getting there with my eldar commission, looking forward to getting back to AoS things tho.
GrimDork
Just finished an Endrinmaster, wasn’t fully happy with the Barak Thryng scheme above so tried Zilfin instead this time. Think I’ll stick with this scheme now. Was about 5-10 hours work so pretty quick for me. I managed to get a store anniversary admiral so he might have to feature soon.
GrimDork
Well, another age has passed! 2023 was not a productive year for me mini wise. I blame real life, also Tears of the Kingdom! But 2024 is off to a better start! Have finally finished off this Wraithblade unit. I used to always use a blue/white fade for backdrop until it got too tatty. Chilvers put one online so giving it a try again, might be a bit bright. I may take some shots with the more muted backdrop as well. The arms are fully magnetised for weapon options. Got a few more eldar minis to do then back to AoS stuff.

Also think wraith units are some of the best 40k models.
GrimDork
Working on some Swooping Hawks. They were an absolute nightmare to clean up! Failcast resin! Hopefully never have to work with it again. Sorry, pics are a bit rubbish, couldn't be bothered to get all my lamps out.
