Very new player, need help building a playable thematic Nurgle army list.

Hi, I'm back to the hobby after a looong break, and want to give AoS a try.

I want to make a Nurgle army based on rotbringers, mortals (specially marauders) and beastmen.

Which would be the best models to start a list around this concept?

I´d say you should head towards

- 2 Boxes of Blightkings

- 1 Box of Marauders

- Harbinger of Decay

- Feculant Gnarlmaw

- 1 box of Plaguebearers to summon

 

Then play some games with it and look what you´re missing. Develop from there.

Very few Beastmen models have a mark of chaos (giving them the Nurgle keyword), which makes it hard to play them in a Nurgle army without taking the Pestilent Throng battalion.  This battalion will end up taking a block of points out of your army, so you'll need to choose early if you want to go this way or not.

I'd recommend getting the Maggotkin of Nurgle start collecting and building the Lord of Afflictions.  That gives you two good heroes (Lord of Afflictions, Lord of Blights) with some blightkings.  Then you can add blightkings, marauders, and a feculant gnarlmaw.

The start collecting Daemons of Nurgle box has all the daemons you'd ever want to summon, if you want to go that way.  Otherwise, just buy Plaguebearers as @Hannibal noted above.

Both blightkings and Marauders are really good currently. You're better off taking maggotkin as your main book than slaves or beast men. Blightking spam is properly competitive and will surprise a lot of people with how fast the list is.

Beastmen aren't in the same league but that doesn't mean you shouldn't include them.

Also a Sorcerer with blades of putrefaction or plague squall  spell

will 

help for small points

and add Gutrod Spume for "teleporting" your Blightkings.

You may also take a blightcyst or plaguecyst batallion.

With the right buffs blightkings are great durable and always fun to play so go for it.
