Citadel Wood

I've just got a discussion with a friend about the citadel Wood. If I remember correctly you can remove the trees from the base to make space for models to stand, because the trees are "just for decoration". Is that correct? If so, where is a source for that?

That's more for transport.  The trees themselves do block movement.  

EDIT: I should clarify that they block movement as much as anything else blocks movement.  There's nothing to prevent you from climbing them.
