How does this work when you are healing multi-wound models?

If you roll 3 on the D3, can you choose to bring back three individual models on one wound? Or does it have to be one model with 3 wounds?

The spell says “a number of models that have a combined wounds characteristic” - so technically three one wound models would comply...

If you have a unit of multi-wound models (Liberators with 2, or Retributors with 3)and roll 3 on the D3, you’d only be able to bring back one model. The wounds characteristic is the value on the little wheel printed on the warscroll.

Roka's covered it, but as an aside the core rules state you can never have more than 1 wounded model in a unit.

Combined wound characteristic: 

two Liverators: Combined Wound characteristic of 4.

you roll a 3: equal to or less than the combined wounds characteristic: 2/3 bring one entire Liberator back. The 1/3 is lost.

in other words: The roll can only bring back models it would fully heal

 

or more mathematical:

1 Liberator CW 2 <= 3 (dice roll)  TRUE

2 Liberators CW 4 <= 3 FALSE
