Pure Beastclaw Raider tournament list

Recommended Posts

So i'm looking to finish a 2000pts pure beastclaw list for an upcoming tournament next year.

I don't want any oruks or grots of any kind, I know it's going to be difficult holding objectives but I like the look of it.  Beside, I've enough Orks for 40k that I don't want to paint any more greenskin for the time being.

So I'm trying to build the best list I can with the limitation I've given myself.

I'm down to two lists and I'd like your inputs.

Brutal but kunnin' 2000/2000

Leaders
Huskard on Thundertusk
- General
- Artefact: The Pelt of Charngar
Huskard on Thundertusk
- Artefact: The Pelt of Charngar

Units
Mournfang Pack x 4
Mournfang Pack x 4
Mournfang Pack x 2

Behemoths
Thundertusk Beastriders

-or-

Kunnin' but brutal 1980/2000

Leaders
Huskard on Thundertusk
- General
- Artefact: The Pelt of Charngar
Icebrow Hunter
- Artefact: The Pelt of Charngar

Units
Mournfang Pack x 4
Mournfang Pack x 4
Frost Sabres x 4
Frost Sabres x 4
Frost Sabres x 2

Behemoths
Thundertusk Beastriders

Battalions
Skal

For second list i would make a unit of MF 2 units of 2 and upgrade the thundertusk to huskard. With the banners it means you dont need to worry about battleshock for those two units.

Alternatively make the hunter the general. Which means that when he pops up he is as close to guaranteed to charge as he can be. It also means you can keep the MF 2 units of 4 and upgrade the thundertusk to huskard. keep the pelt on the hunter.

Basically for the 2nd list take 2 huskards :)

not sure it will win you many friends!

I am more on the side of thoses who don't like sabertusks and thinks that they compare poorly with yeetees.

4 saber = 3yeetees for the points. Too bad, 4 sabers =2 yeetees in terms of firepower and the same goes for the resilience. Plus, sabers don't have -1 to be hit and are more subject to battleshock. The only thing they do not have is +3 to charge (yeepee) but even there, yeetees stomp them with the 6"range for engagement, no need to charge, babe. They also can be part of a Skal which allow them to teleport. But you must have a good reason, and even a very good reason to pay that much to have that benefit.. somethink to kill in particular. Not something i would bring in tournament, particulary in MSU.

The same goes for the hunter, he is slow, hit like 4 liberators but costs like 8 and has some shooting weapons with short range. However he is born with his tellyporta thing and is a hero too which is something more useful in some GHB scenarios like3placesofpowa.

I wound throw away the tigers, and add more big things.

Aaaah! It never crossed my mind that if I put the Hunter as my general, the Frost Sabres would become battleline  which mean that I'm not stuck with the Thunderstuck Beastriders as my 3rd battleline :-D

Maybe I'll split the Frost Sabres in 5 unit of 2 as well.

So it would look more like this:

Leaders
Icebrow Hunter
- General
- Artefact: The Pelt of Charngar
Huskard on Thundertusk
- Artefact: The Pelt of Charngar
Huskard on Thundertusk

Units
Mournfang Pack x 4
Mournfang Pack x 4
Frost Sabres x 4
Frost Sabres x 4
Frost Sabres x 2

Battalions
Skal

Total: 2000/2000

Well i'm sure It will be devastating against some army and I'm sure i'll lose to some others. And I'm on the light side for scenario with objectives.

We'll see :-)

I've, actually, never tried the Skal battalion yet since I don't have the minis (waiting for Xmas) But I like the idea of what it does. I'll have to play with it a few time before I can decide if it's worth the cost/power ratio.

I'll have to check what the scenarios will be at the tournament too.

Is this you Reggie!? :) Also guys comment above is correct, you'd be 40 points over for that formation as you need a storn horn beastrider to complete it.

You could have dropped the 20 point formation to play as Destruction allegiance, allows run and charge any way and battle brew /talisman as artifacts

Doubt your results would have been any different without the formation you ran.
